Fire Emblem if has Amiibo support + HQ Boxarts

When we weren’t looking, Nintendo of Japan sneakily updated the Fire Emblem if boxarts to add two things.

As is becoming the trend with new first-party titles, Fire Emblem if will support Amiibos (Nintendo’s NFC figures), as indicated by the Amiibo logo in the most top-right corner.

At this early stage, it’s not clear what exactly the Amiibo functionality will be, but hopefully the Fire Emblem Amiibos–Marth, Ike, Robin and Lucina–will add something interesting to the game.

For reference, the game already features DLC characters, unlocked with download codes from special Fire Emblem Cipher TCG packs. So it’s not a stretch that additional DLC characters could be unlocked with Amiibos.

Nintendo of Japan has revealed a nifty Fire Emblem if face plate bundle on the official site.

The face plates, which are based on the boxarts for Hoshido and Nohr, can be purchased together with a black New Nintendo 3DS and a 16 GB microSDHC memory card (altogether for 19,980 Yen) or separately (for 2,700 Yen).

Of course, since Nintendo of America has apparently skipped the non-XL New Nintendo 3DS model, the chances of these coming out in North America are pretty slim. Europe on the other hand…

Besides this, we also get a clear look at the heroine, Aqua’s official artwork for the first time!

4Gamer interviews the Fire Emblem team

Ahead of its competition, 4Gamer has scooped an interview with the Fire Emblem development team at Intelligent Systems and managed to uncover some fresh new details regarding the latest game, Fire Emblem if.

Some key details:

  • The Nohr campaign features diverse victory conditions, such as seizing a location, breaking through enemy lines, defending your base and maps with turn restrictions.
  • Up to Chapter 5, the game is exactly the same, but the rest of the game–5/6ths of the game–follows a completely different story depending on your campaign choice.
  • The concept of choice was heavily inspired by the player’s choice between Arran and Samson in the first game, Dark Dragon and Sword of Light.
  • Players who purchase the download version can play up to Chapter 5, but then must download the Hoshido or Nohr campaign to continue–the first campaign can be downloaded for free.
  • The third campaign (DLC) is roughly halfway between Hoshido and Nohr in difficulty. You can also adjust the difficulty partway through the game.

April News Roundup 2: Sales and Sketches

Welcome to another roundup of minor Fire Emblem news from last week, as I try (badly) not to clutter up the front page.

25th

20th April: The pre-sale ticket raffle is now underway at the Fire Emblem 25th Anniversary concert site; here, users can sign up for a chance to win tickets for the 25th Anniversary concert via a lottery.

Registrations for the ticket raffle close after 10th May 2015 and formal ticket sales will commence around a month later, from 7th June 2015.

This way, fans desperate for tickets can opt to try their luck with the RNG, before being forced to battle other fans, scalpers and overloaded servers as soon as ticket sales open.
