Cipher: Series 6 Introduction & Pre-Orders

Now that Series 5 of the in Fire Emblem Cipher card game has been released and explored, news and speculation is starting to begin for the next series. Let’s take a look at what we know about Series 6 so far, and what we can expect to learn in the coming months.

Series 6 was first hinted at during the NicoNico Winter Livestream event in February of this year. It will feature Genealogy of the Holy War characters as a new coloured faction, and will also see the return of more characters from Fire Emblem Fates, with a specific focus on the Revelation storyline and the kingdom of Nohr.

The official FE Cipher website updated last week with a new page for the formal announcement of S6. The booster series is titled Storm of the Knights’ Shadows (閃駆の騎影) and is complimented with a matching Structured Deck that will feature Genealogy characters. Both the booster series and the deck will release on September 29th.

Another interesting tidbit released on the site is that S6 booster boxes will contain another 1st Anniversary promo card in addition to the S7 preview promo card. The cards will be reprints of the Male Corrin and Female Corrin promos that were given out by Nintendo Dream and Dengeki Nintendo respectively in November 2015.

One of each anniversary and preview promo will be included in booster boxes along with 1 of 2 promo sleeve designs. The sleeve designs have not yet been revealed, though it’s likely that one of them will use Japanese boxart for Genealogy, and the other will likely be Nohrian inspired, though the Nohr box art image was already used for other sleeves.

No S6 cards have been shown yet, but we got a preview of how the Genealogy cards will look thanks to the Sigurd promo included in S5 booster boxes. Genealogy characters are represented with an orange-gold coloured border and a “Holy War Flag” insignia. The cards themselves introduce a new mechanic called a “Bond Skill”, which can only be used when the appropriate card is in the bond zone.

We’re also lucky enough to learn a bit more about the Revelation focus in both S6 and the upcoming S7 in an interview with Cipher producers Ryota Kawade and Tsutomu Kitanishi in the most recent issue of Nintendo Dream.

Previously, Series 3 covered Revelation, but the setting for that was near the beginning of the story. This time, the setting is nearer the end and will show Xander and Ryoma on the path to becoming Nohrian King and Hoshidan King respectively. As such, there will be cards of Garon, Anankos, King Xander, and King Ryoma.

As revealed in the S5 livestream in June, the King Xander and King Ryoma artwork will actually be a part of one long artwork consisting of a total of 8 cards between S6 and S7. Although the other spots are blanked out, it is likely they will be filled with the other royal siblings.

In addition to the expected Hoshidan and Nohrian characters, the interview also started that there will be new skill(s) based on Fates‘s “Dragon Vein” mechanic, though we have no word yet on how those skills will work mechanically.

Adding on to some of the previous artwork shots, we’ve also gotten sneak peaks of some other art from S6 over the past few months, including these Genealogy artwork shots of Arvis, Quan, Ethlyn, and Lewyn.

On the Fates side, the various livestreams have also shown off some interesting artwork, such as these shots of Anankos, Charlotte, Maid Elise, and Siegbert.

Another recent poster showcases some almost-finished cards of a number of characters from both games.

The inclusion of Arvis, Garon, and Anankos seems to indicate that villains will play a somewhat larger role in this set, and perhaps in coming sets. Previously, each sets have contained only one villain.

Series 6 is definitely shaping up to be an interesting set! It will likely be a while before we get more concrete new and card reveals, but we will continue to share any news as we learn it. In the meantime, we still have the S5 Guidebook and a few other S5 promo releases to look forward to, as well as the on-going Cipher Caravan events.

Currently, pre-orders for S6 booster boxes and decks are now open in the Cipher section Japanese retailer AmiAmi.
