Fire Emblem: Goddess of Dawn
News and information (3rd November 2006)

Latest news

Today, Goddess of Dawn was playable at the Nintendo World event in Japan. Here are some of the most interesting information obtained from Japanese players who attended the event.
  • The demo supposedly spans Chapters 1 and 3. At Chapter 1 you only have Mikaya and Eddie, with Leonard joining a bit later. Chapter 3 is at Nevassa and is the chapter that we saw in the Gamevideos movie. There you get Sothe and Laura (and presumedly Noyce as well).
  • A Game Over is received if Eddie dies.
  • Mikaya apparently speaks in a language, similar to the Herons' galldr, but different (one person speculates that she might be of the ancient race of the Grann Desert, the Zunanma).
  • Biorhythm and skill Capacities are back.
  • Vulneraries have 8 uses (not sure if that's to make the demo easier). Also there is a new "Herb" item with 10 uses, but the amount of HP recovery decreases with each use.
  • Some person seemed to like the new Fire Emblem theme. Apparently it's much better than the FE9 one, with the main instruments being gentle instruments, like flutes.
  • Shove is now a skill, although all the characters seem to have it.
  • Shove, Crtical +5 and Steal all have a "lock" icon next to them, perhaps indicating they are Class skills.
  • It seems Sothe is promoted. He comes during Turn 3, as a Level 1 Rogue with 20 Strength, 17 Skill and 17 Speed. (I'm not sure how accurate this information is.)
  • Kard appears to be just a standard Knife and not Sothe's personal weapon.
  • Enemies include Soldiers, Brigands and Lance Armours.
  • Mikaya's bird has a name : )
(Perhaps more to come)

Name

The Japanese title is Akatsuki no Megami (暁の女神), which translates directly to "Goddess of Dawn". On very rare occassions, the title has been translated to "Goddess of the Red Moon", but that is incorrect for various reasons. It should be noted that the name may change for the game's Western release in a similar fashion to Path of Radiance and The Sacred Stones- which were titled "Trails of the Blue Flame" and "Gems of Good and Evil" respectively in Japan.

Release date

The game is currently down for a February 2007 release in Japan. It is not yet known when a Western release will follow.

Sequel to Path of Radiance

It has been confirmed that the game takes place in the continent of Tellius, 3 years after the events of Path of Radiance. The only returning character that has been revealed is the Thief, Sothe.

CG Movies

The game will have at least twice as much CG movies as Path of Radiance. In other words, we can expect at least 12 CG movies.

Characters

Please check the Characters section for more information.

Two major characters have been revealed, along with a few others that can be seen in some game footage. Sothe was a Thief from the previous game, and he appears to use Knives again. Mikaya (name subject to change for the Western release) is a new character and she can use Light magic. It is suspected that these two may be the main characters of the game, although it has not been directly confirmed.

New skills

"Healing Hand" appears to be a skill that Mikaya has, where the user can sacrifice some of their HP to heal an ally. The user of "Protection" can choose an ally to take damage for- this might have something to do with the strange icons next to Noyce and Laura's mini portraits. Too bad the Kanji on the icons is too small to make out.

Translated extracts:

"It was clear that her class was Light Mage after playing the Wii Preview demo." -referring to Mikaya

"His class is Thief, the same as in Path of Radiance." -referring to Sothe

"Goddess of Dawn takes place in the same world as Path of Radiance, three years later. From the Wii Preview playtest of an one chapter demo, we see the story begins in a village in Daein. Although three years has passed since the war, Daein is still left with a scar. Now the defeated country, bandits enslave the masses, with Mikaya and her allies opposing them!! What will she do with the fate that awaits her?"

Additionally Eddie is mentioned as a swordfighter (Myrmidon), but whether that is referring to his class or his type of weapon is difficult to tell. Apparently Mikaya is under the player's control from the beginning of the game, while Sothe joins along the way. The author wonders whether there's a higher chance of Mikaya being the main character than Sothe.
