Chapter 5: The Emblem of Fire

On the World Map

Lord Eric’s betrayal left Roy in a greater state of shock. He had the impresson that Eric wasn’t the only traitor around. Lycia was no longer safe.

Hurrying toward Ostia, Roy decided to pass through the sparsely settled mountains to avoid unnecessary trouble.

Opening Cutscene

(Inside castle)

Bandit:
“Boss! The boys down at the village just got back.”

Dory:
“All right, then let’s go on our usual visit down to the village and gather up the loot.”

Bandit:
“Yeah, but boss, something’s different today. There’s an army stationed real close to us!”

Dory:
“An army!? What the hell is an army doin’ way up here in the mountains!?”

Bandit:
“I dunno. They look like Lycia’s troops!”

Dory:
“Lycia?
Then that ain’t a problem… They must be the remnants of the army that got their ass kicked by Bern. We can beat ’em.”

Bandit:
“Sure thing, boss!”

Dory:
“Well, we still gotta be careful. Maybe we can rake up some loot from them, too! All right boys, let’s take ’em on!”

(Scene switches to Roy)

Merlinus:
“A villager is here to see you, Master Roy. Hey, you, wait just a second…”

(Villager appears)

Villager:
“Oh! Are you Roy of Pherae?”

Roy:
“Yes. How may I help you?”

Villager:
“Milord! We wish for you to defeat the bandits!”

Roy:
“Bandits?”

Villager:
“A pack of bandits has set up base in an old castle in the mountain pass…”

Roy:
“Where are the castle guards?”

Villager:
“They fled once they heard that Lycia had lost to Bern… We villagers were left behind, and now we spend our days in fear of bandit attacks.”

Roy:
“……”

Villager:
“We have no one else to turn to. Please help us!”

Merlinus:
“Master Roy, we must keep up our pace towards Ostia…”

Roy:
“Yes, I know. But we can’t ignore people in need of help!”

Merlinus:
“Master Roy!?”

Villager:
“You will help us!? Thank you! Please make use of the secret gate. It will take you right next to the castle.”

Roy:
“All right.”

Villager:
“I will go make arrangements for the gate to be opened!”

(Villager leaves)

Roy:
“Merlinus! Tell everyone we’re storming the castle to drive off the bandits!”

Merlinus:
“Sigh… So full of energy when you’re young.”

2nd Turn

(In the village near the top of the map)

Yodel:
“Thank you, Dorothy. Please tell Saul as well.”

Dorothy:
“Yes, Bishop Yodel.”

(Yodel leaves)

Dorothy:
“…Now, where did Father Saul go? How am I supposed to guard him if he keeps disappearing on me?”

(Scene switches to Saul)

Girl:
“Er…Father Saul, thank you for your offer, but maybe not today…”

Saul:
“Come now, please don’t be so cold. We can sit comfortably tonight and you can listen to my preaching…”

Dorothy:
“Father Saul! There you are!”

Saul:
“Oops. Dorothy…”

Girl:
“Well then, good day…”

(Girl leaves)

Saul:
“Wait! …Tsk tsk… Now look at what you’ve done, Dorothy. She fled because you advanced upon us with such a menacing look.”

Dorothy:
“This is the look I was born with! Father Saul, you were hitting on another girl.”

Saul:
“You make it sound so evil! I was simply offering a helping hand to those poor souls in need.”

Dorothy:
“Why does that have to be ‘tonight?'”

Saul:
“…Well, putting that aside… Did you not have something to tell me?”

Dorothy:
“Oh, right. The Lycia Alliance Army is supposed to be around here somewhere.”

Saul:
“What! Princess Guinevere is with them, correct?”

Dorothy:
“Yes, if the reports from the Elimine Church are accurate.”

Saul:
“We have no time to waste! We must find that army.”

Dorothy:
“……”

Saul:
“What is the matter, Dorothy?”

Dorothy:
“…You want to find them because Princess Guinevere is rumored to be sooo beautiful, right?”

Saul:
“Don’t be ridiculous… Come now, we must hurry.”

Dorothy:
“Yes, sir!”

(Dorothy and Saul leave the village)

When stopping next to the gate

Man:
“Oh, it’s you guys. I heard you were coming. Hang on a sec, I’ll open the gate for you.”

(Gate opens)

Dory:
“What the hell? There was a gate there? Cunning bastards…”

Battle with Dory

Dory:
“No one’s stayed standing after takin’ one of my blows! You over there, you wanna try?”

Defeating Dory

Dory:
“Gah…! No…I don’t wanna die…yet…”

After Beating the Map

(Inside Castle)

Merlinus:
“Master Roy! A priest from the Elimine Church is here looking for you…and Princess Guinevere!”

Roy:
“He knew that the princess was with us?”

Merlinus:
“Yes. How did he find out?”

Roy:
“…I wonder. Anyway, I’ll go talk to him by myself.”

Guinevere:
“Roy, I will be fine. Let us see what he has to say.”

Roy:
“Princess?”

Guinevere:
“The relationship between my brother and the Elimine Church has been becoming increasingly bitter. I do not believe that the Church would be hostile to us.”

Roy:
“I see. Okay, Merlinus, let the priest pass.”

(Merlinus leaves. Saul appears)

Saul:
“Master Roy, it is a pleasure to meet you at last. I am Saul, a priest of the Elimine Church.”

Roy:
“Pleased to meet you.”

Saul:
“And… Ah! You must be Princess Guinevere! You are as beautiful as the rumors say!”

Guinevere:
“…?”

Saul:
“Ahem… Now, princess, I wish to know the location of the ‘Fire Emblem.’ I trust you have it with you?”

Guinevere:
“! How do you know that?”

Saul:
“The Head Church in Bern informed us that the Fire Emblem mysteriously disappeared from the Temple of Seals. And at exactly the same time, you disappeared as well.”

Guinevere:
“……”

Saul:
“I was sent by the Church to confirm this information. Why did you take the Fire Emblem?”

Guinevere:
“…To stop my brother.”

Saul:
“Your brother… King Zephiel.”

Guinevere:
“Yes.”

Saul:
“Do you know what the Fire Emblem is?”

Guinevere:
“…The Fire Emblem is the key to awaken a powerful sword that can ‘seal’ the Dragons. At least, that was what my father told me. I do not know exactly how the Fire Emblem or the sword work. However, the possibility of the Fire Emblem falling into enemy hands seemed to worry my brother…greatly.”

Saul:
“So you took the Fire Emblem, hoping to make your brother believe that it had fallen into enemy hands and stop his conquest?”

Guinevere:
“Yes…but my efforts were for naught.”

Saul:
“As a representative of the Elimine Church, I will ask you this. What do you plan on doing from here?”

Guinevere:
“…Must I answer at this moment?”

Saul:
“Ah, so you have a plan.”

Guinevere:
“Yes. I have not given up hope of settling this war without bloodshed.”

Saul:
“I see. In that case, please allow me to accompany your journey.”

Guinevere:
“If Roy accepts.”

Roy:
“I have no objection.”

Guinevere:
“I apologize, Roy. I seem to be such a burden on you…”

Roy:
“No, not at all, princess. I hope there is still a way to end this war peacefully.”

Guinevere:
“…Yes, I hope so as well.”
