personally like Tales of Bravery, featuring Roland of FE7 and the other heroes plus their story after beating the dragons.. I like how it turned out.. too bad it's practically dead(do correct me) for some unknown reason

that and Tactician hack which i believe is also dropped or discontinued along with dream of five i believe.. anyway what are your favorite dropped titles or hacks..

They may not be related to Fire Emblem, but I liked playing the Super Metroid First Horizon demo, and I was still eager on looking foward to Super Metroid: Aegis since the first trailer got revealed almost seven years ago. Both hacks have unknown progression as of today.

Dream of Five is discontinued? When did that happen? Last I heard it was just progressing veeerrry slowly due to real life interference.

I've got 3 favourite discontinued FE hacks. Decay of the Fangs, Maiden Quest and Project Z - the latter 2 over on the Emblem Brigade. There was some talk of restarting Project Z, but it's not looking likely at the moment...

if i had to recall, i think Project Z was canceled because the game was basically anti player and required a ridiculous amount of foresight and savestates.

i could be wrong though, decay of the fangs could've been good if it had better map designs.

and about dream of five, well insert comment here, though marky joe did sum it up rather well, never heard of maiden quest.

last I checked they said they'd stop or something along those lines(Dream of Five), even got a notification for necroposting.. but seriously I'd love to see the finished product..

they discontinued Decay of Fangs?! O_O project z's awesome tho.. I'd love to help out working with it by march.. cause I'm still busy with college = =

i think about the most ironic part about dream of five is that marky joe did point out that the project would never be finished if they kept going back to the first few chapters and kept changing the small stuff instead of the more important stuff "no incentive to rush the map, most stages you can just hang back and wait for the enemy to wipe itself out" and "unlikeable characters".

while i haven't been keeping in touch with the project, it sounds like it has been stalled for potentially even more years, which is amusing cause i believe he was told to bugger off or something to that extent after expression that opinion, which might've turned out to be accurate afterall.

Ironically, this is what happened to MarkyJoe's own project. It seems to be something of a theme.

I don't think Dream of Five's quite dead, but the team has diminished in numbers, and its primary members are now older (college) students rather than high schoolers, with far more things cluttering their schedule than previous years. Additionally, as a project drags on longer and longer, motivation to work on it tends to sink lower and lower, thus making it difficult to get back on the wagon.

DoF is a cool project with lots of potential, but it comes off as shoddy when you look at it with any form of a discerning eye. Why? Because the writers have been changed off too many times to count, and the project has gotten better in the later parts of the game, but is terrible in the early part due to the fact that the early parts were made years ago, before their creators had a lot of experience.

Frankly, I think they should restart. New maps, new challenge, updated story, etc. It'll give them a fresh feeling and it'll feel much more satisfying than what they have now.

I would think that not suffering through turtling through the map painfully would be incentive enough, also usually if you play faster you'll have less trouble dealing with enemies than if you just waited for the map to run out of them. Likeable or unlikeable characters is entirely subjective to the person, Marky hated almost every character in DoF.

I don't remember him ever saying that, but okay.

It isn't dead. Diminished numbers is kind of accurate but we never had a large amount of contributors to begin with. One big reason why progress has basically been 0 is because the main hacker/spriter (myself) just went through grade 12 and I am currently in first year of university, so you can probably understand that I'm adapting to new life situations/am busy.

I can say that members have recently started to talk again though, as we've discussed story a couple weeks ago. But yeah while I've just started university, some members are getting ready for grad school, so it's difficult.

Wait, Dream of Five is cancelled? When did that happen?

It wasn't. And it never happened.

The writers have changed once Klok.

I don't have any more revisions for earlier chapters in terms of gameplay, but dialogue can always be added. The last gameplay revision I had for earlier chapters was stat balancing/proper level gain since the introduction of promoted enemies in midgame resulted in 100 EXP gains for whatever reason, so I had to make a work around by changing every enemy's levels/stats again to make sure player characters have proper levels.

I am very excited to release a new patch, but the upcoming patch requires a lot of work in terms of graphics, I think about 5 new battle animations need to be made/edited plus 3 or 4 more chapters of coding need to happen. It's a lot of work to do by myself (primarily, since others are busy) so you can see how my motivation to do the project isn't exactly the highest right now. School isn't helping either when I need to maintain a high GPA, hacking a ROM for others' enjoyment isn't exactly high on my priority list at the moment.

Restarting on that much work is a death sentence. It would never get finished. Also, I am near certain they've only swapped one writer.

The number of animators in the community is pretty painfully low, and I can respect a decision not to ever want to outsource for any of a thousand reasons, but I'm happy to do animation work if it comes down to the wire on what you need.

Really though, it's the last line that sums it up - "hacking a ROM for other's enjoyment' - It's generally a good life policy to avoid a hobby you yourself don't find fun anymore (unless, looking at the wording, you're just saying 'hacking is fun but no a top priority.)

There's a couple animation edits (like Arcus edit from Hector, etc) but there are some custom animations such as Renair's promotion. Either way, it's a lot of work. I also still have to go through a couple mugs to update them and make some new ones, so there's a fair amount of graphical work to be done. One thing I don't really outsource too often is mugs, but animations I'd be glad to outsource if anyone is offering.

Hacking is fun, I just have other hobbies and priorities that overtake it.

project z is dead, but i don't think you could ever call a project about zombies "alive" in the first place i think all the main workers have gone to college and everyone who tried to pick up the torch is either instantly demotivated or just straight incompetent

True, they won't be able to keep up with the quality or match up the quality of the people working on it if they remain things as is..

I just based the whole dead part with the necropst i got a few months back.. sorry to whoever felt offended by it..

but yeah I'd love to see the new updates.. :D it's a fun hack to play and I'd personally love to help writing the story over summer(which is more or less march in my country)

anyone remember whatever happened to that one FE7 hack tho? the one with Ike's story line in it?

Look guys if you want DoF to move faster you can throw money at the team

I got a job now and my senior research project so I'm prioritizing that but if money get then I'm more likely to make time to animate things

And nobody's touching Renair's promoted animation aside from me because as much as I complain about it that one's my baby and I will see it through

(unless you're Yeti of course)

I wouldn't dream of it. (T2 Renair, that is.) New FEditor should also make that a lot easier on you when the time comes, so that it doesn't explode from OAM nonsense.

I don't think any amount of donation you'll see for hacking will adequately financially compensate for the amount of work that goes into animating, though, but tis what it is.

I'm doing my best to write what I can for DoF, but alas, my mugs/hacking/animating is near-zilch.

But you carry the heavy burden of having to make Garath have at least one decent trait as a human being. *zing*

Is the core group solely you three now? (Astra/Lumi/Eclipse?)

Garath is one of my favorite characters to write dialogue for. FSR, him, along with two of the characters post-split have lines that literally flow as soon as I write their name down on the script. His decent trait is actually listening to Renair. :P:

I'm pretty sure Amelia's doing stuff, too. I'm not much of a Skype person, and that's where the group meets. . .

The core is us four, though we have other writers (such as Sakusa) doing worldbuilding and writing the supports.

Because really there's 100 something supports 1 person is not writing that

Support writing is hell.
