Special Classes for "Sibling" Characters

Hey guys, while I was reading the new information, I came across the name of the characters we didn't know, as well as, their classes.

To start with:

Marx is a Paladin (nothing special there)

Camilla is a Revenant Knight (New)

Leon (the younger blonde haired prince from Nohr) is a Dark Knight (we guessed as much here)

Elise (AKA twintails) is a Rod Knight

Ryouma is a Trueblade (most likely not a third tier promotion)

Hinoka is a Pegasus Warrior

Takumi is a Bowman

Sakura is a priestess

What do you think these classes mean?

Why isn't hinoka a pegasus knight instead? What is really interesting to me is that Camilla is a Revenant Knight. What does that mean? I thought that she was a wyvern rider? Are these special classes for these characters only or are they renamed. Of course this still the translation, but it is interesting to me at least.

They may have wanted to make knighthood a concept specific to Nohr, hence the pegasus warrior.

There are quite a few theories about Camilla's. Black magic wielder, personal class, riding an undead creature... your guess is as good as ours.

I think it's a mixture of both. Someone posted TCG art that had Sakura holding a bow and a staff/rod/wand. It's most likely she and Camilla have new classes. The others I'm not so sure about. Royalties in past FE games have had 'normal' classes with special names (Elincia, Lynn, Miciah, etc.) so it could be the same here. I think those all had an extra weapon as well iirc so we could see that again. Hinoka could wield an axe when promoted for example.

Edit: Also VincentASM guessed that Rod Knight could be gender neutral troubadors which I also find interesting.

I'm inclined to believe they're just special class names, it's been done before for important characters, though usually they're a little different from the "regular" class as well (I think Dragon Pulse would be enough of a difference).

It's a little odd that Marx and Leon don't have a different title though. Unless maybe Cavaliers don't promote to Paladins for some reason (maybe Great Knights and Bow Knights?), and same with Dark Mages (Sorcerer and Sage?).

I'm bgeginning to think that Nohr has all the horses and wyverns while Hoshido has pegasi. That could be a little unbalanced though and we there may be a new mount that we don't know about yet for Hoshido.

From the screenshots it seems like every character has a personal skill, which in these cases would be Dragon's Vein, so I think they're just generic classes subjected to translation issues.

Camilla seems like a wyvern rider to me, although her wyvern might be undead. Miniature Draco Zombies!

Sakura probably promotes into a new class exclusive to Hoshido, while Nohrian clerics promote to War Cleric or something.

I just assumed its a translation thing, and they're still the same classes.

On a related note, what is a "rod knight?" A knight that uses staves? Isn't that the same as troubadour?

I think they meant it as troubadour, given that her in-game sprite is a troubadour.

So far, all of the Nohrian classes have Katakana names, while the Hoshidan's have Kanji. Some have been "fancified" to some degrees, but I guess they're still similar to classes from past FE games.

Thats what I am thinking. Perhaps they will have special weapon choices such as Hinoka with Lance and Axe ( and possibly Staff, too) with a Pegasus/Falcon when she promotes and maybe rod knight just has (possible Light magic) anima and staff while regular troubadours/Valeries have only anima and staff? It would be cool for each of them to have special classes with 3 weapons and exclusive skills. We'll just have to wait and see for sure.

Shaddup, don't destroy my dreams please. :p

I'm guessing they're just fancy names for preexisting classes, just like Conqueror is basically a Great Knight, but I wouldn't be opposed to some new classes either. Maybe Camilla will be able to use dark magic after promoting? That would be neat. Light magic for promoted Pegasus Knights, please.

My thoughts are the same.

The other thing, which has also been mentioned, is that Nohr seems to have all the "knights", which I believe is a mostly Western concept. On that note, "Paladin" essentially means "Holy Knight".

Meanwhile, all of the Hoshidan classes have been eastern-fied, including their names. For the ease of reading, I've purposely westernised all the class names, so it's probably harder to tell.

So Ryouma is actually a Kensei, which has been localised as "Sword Saint" for Karel's title in Binding Blade and more recently "Trueblade" in Radiant Dawn. The name itself basically alludes to a master swordsman, so maybe it will be just "Swordmaster" in English.

It seems like the classes are just done up versions of existing classes to me. Takumi is just an archer that (hopefully) won't suck, Elise is just a troubadour with higher magic or somesuch, and Marx will be a more paladiny Paladin? The odd one out would have to be Camilla with her Revenant Knight class, but a unit that's counts as all of: flying, dragon, and zombie would be quite interesting.

Interesting to note that knight has been Nohr only thus far. I actually really like that idea, but hopefully Hoshido would have something good to make up for this. They're already getting Oni, so it wouldn't be farfetched to think they're getting other new classes too.

That's the biggest hole in this theory. Unless Paladins and Dark Knights are know their own base class, I don't see this working. It would just be a bit awkward; half of Nohr would get screwed out of unique class names.

The Hoshidan names are just translations of the older FE names. In the past, Swordmaster, Pegasus Knight, Archer, and Cleric have usually been ソードマスター、ペガサスナイト、アーチャー、and シスター. Instead, they're Japanese now:

剣聖 (sword saint), an actual title given to masters of kendo/kenjutsu

天馬武者 (sky-horse warrior-person), where "sky-horse" obviously means "pegasus"

弓使い (bow user), self explanatory

巫女 (miko), a Shinto shrine maiden

For Nohr, "Rod Knight" almost certainly refers to how Elize will use staves, along the same naming conventions as the Tellius games' Sword Knights, Lance Knights, etc.

Thus the only actually interesting one is "Revenant Knight." Perhaps they ride some sort of shikigami dragons?

I think Sakura's class is new since her TCG art shows her using a Bow

That's likely her promoted class, since she's wearing a different costume.

So she goes from Priestess (staves) to ??? (bow, staves).

I envisioned a Miko class that used bows and lances (naginata) but this could be cool too.

Dark Knight here is probably different from Awakening's Dark Knight, because Leon is probably not a prepromote..

Probably a Horse-Wearing (Dark) Mage (I'm not sure we'll have a magic triangle back.), which is cool on its own.
