IGdood
Continuing from before.... Revenge! Any agent with a blue circle above their heads must die! Paint the place red. But who's gonna take over this army...? Best to let them stay in the city, as general-less armies cannot replenish in the field. Asano shall join the family....through marriage. Laying siege...ah fuck we're being bombed! And the numbers look pretty bad.... I also bribed some Black Bears over. Meanwhile, taking it to the Tosa. And subsequently retreating due to overwhelming enemy numbers. Fuck, we get bombed again and we'll loe our best units. TAKE CARE OF THAT SATSUMA NAVY This is the torpedo boat. It can only fire torpedos under direct player control. Otherwise, it'll act like a regular chiyodagata gunboat. CHARGE STRAIGHT IN! FIRE! TORPEDO AWAY. Took awhile to aim though. Torpedos are slow as fuck. But when they hit, it's a OHKO. Unfortunately, while I was waiting for an explosion, I lost 2 ships. It's best to just launch the torpedo, and let it go. Launch again later. They're hard to aim too. Victory! The Tosa attack! With inferior units like these, this is going to be fun. Gonna put some cav in the forest. Tosa Riflemen are like Sharpshooters on crack. Where are they going? Use your bows! Fire! With only shitty levy and no kneel fire, this is gonna be a long battle. Moving this levy around since they won't be shooting at allies... Trolling like a boss. Their general kinda just crashed into my lines. Wtf?! So I crash my monk cav into theirs. KILL THEIR GENERAL! IGdood
CHARGE FORWARD! Steamroll 'em all! YEAAAH! Finally, the enemy breaks. YEAAAAAH! Looks like this new Mochi will be replacing oki....but it'll take awhile....a looong while.

IGdood
images on posts $62 to #72 have exceeded bandwith/views and do not display. this makes me a sad puppy. I'm sorry. I made a new account on photobucket just for you. And once again, photobucket decides to be a bitch. Also, steamrolling through provinces. And getting some regular generals to lead my armies...somewhere. Meanwhile, the last of the Satsuma attempt to sally out. Not gonna work. Their cavalry try to flank me, but I've anticipated that already. My mounted samurai hero and onna bushi heroine crash into these carbine cavalry, annihilating them.....thugh they still managed to get a few potshots at us. Their line surprisingly does not crumble at first fight, and atually manages to shoot me back. But, that's not enough. I rout them easily. Urgh, the AI pulls my own tricks back on me. One of my forces were bribed away. With renewed vigor, I organize my forces and send them on major offensives along Tosa coast. Mochizuru decides to take the castle before winter comes. Black Bears >>> Red Bears thanks to that awesome-looking officer and the pointy-hat standard bearer. Advance! Destroy! KILL EM ALL! Some defenders try to run out to charge us. They met their end with BAYONETS FORWARD, INFANTRY!
IGdood
Fighting Imperial forces is actually slightly harder...if only because they'll sic modern units n you! Taking the remaining defenders of level 2. The charge into the top floor is a clusterfuck. We make our way to other towns. Argh, the fuck? WEAK! It's winter...let's conquer and burn the place down! We gotta hurry up with the assault...star forts come with built-in cannons in the fort walls. They've got Parrott Guns bombing us from the other side.... Archers, covering fire! Everyone else, SCALE TO GREAT HEIGHTS! Officer executes the first Tosa soldier he sees. Continue the assault. Some enemy reinforcements try to flank us, but a single line is enough t keep them at bay. A bloody awesome win. Bribed a unit of Tosa RIflemen, they're Sharpshooters on crack. IGdood
Except that unit of bribed Tosa Rifles were cut down by a large army that came out of nowhere, which I bribed the next turn because....power of money. I was then able to use it to take the province. From Miami 2 Ibiza....Bingo 2 Aki....Bitchu to Bizen...! Transferring forces around~ This is going to be pitifully easy. Until I saw both sides had naval bombardment. They nail my army hard with orbital bombardment....agh, time's against us. KEEP MOVING! How does one dodge bombardment? Avoid those tiny flares. Things go well...as things usually do for Mochi. And the enemy abandons the fortress. Good for me. Making a landing on the main Tosa island. (So they're descendants of the Chosokabe?) Also proceeding to siege all their provinces.
IGdood
Assault, defend, assault, I wish to be done with this! Imperial Guard Cav trying to flank me? This should be fun, given my current army composition. Well, not really, the AI doesn't understand the concept of avoiding spearmen. All units engage. Cavalry smash into their flanks, like the good, old days. ANd their line fades. Here was one of my closer battles. Totally outclassed... Got nothin but levy infantry and pissed off peasants with swords and armor. Gah, getting shot at by carbine cav! Well, I can't just sit there and have a hsootout. ALL KATANA ASHIGARU, CHARGE! My flank routs, the combined pressure of carbine cav and enemy infantry is too much for them to handle. Yet, somehow, I manage to keep the center. My captain is ambushed by some Tosa RIflemen and gets sniped. Ouch. But, my forces don't rout. They held the fucking line. Te levy get their asses kicked, and are surrounded. Te katana ashis manage to drive off their foes and run back to save the levy. This buys time for the remaining levy to regroup and reform lines. After what seems to be a slugfest, our troops emerge victorious. Unfortunately, the army is too battered to continue the siege, and must retreat to recuperate as a larger Tosa force appears. (Not shown) Wiping the Tosa off the mainland...
IGdood
So many provinces, so little time! Random event. Railways are finally useful as the provinces are connected together. FInally, a battle where I'm outnumbered by quite a bit! This is interesting terrain. FIRE MORTARS! Fire all guns! LET THE BULLETS FLY! They're charging us! Brace! Wait, no, melee units, COUNTERCHARGE! Some yari ki take my carbine cavalry out... Shinsengumi fire on additional enemy cavalry. Revolves, flank them! Wait, no, get back! The battle keeps raging, and I break their will to fight. One. Last. Charge. ALL DASH AND ELAN, LE SABEURS! VICTORY. Gregory Last, my first foreign veteran, is killed. Skivington replaces him. The other Mochi ends up mysteriously assassinated. OH, YE CRUEL RNG! Our beloved Mochi himself is assassinated! Luckily, the shinobi responsible was caught and killed.... His son isn't very good. IGdood
Toshi, pissed off as fuck at his long master's death, gets revenge. Our resolve to crush the Tosa is as strong as ever. Winter is here, and few provinces remain. We shall save the province of Tosa for last. Now we take Matsuo, and yes I know I'm heavily outnumbered but FOR THE EMPEROR. FORWARD -HOLD UP, ENEMY REINFORCEMENTS AT OUR REAR Red Bears, ABOUT FACE AND FIRE! Regiments, form line! Incoming! FLAMING POTS! It's the fucking mangonels! Surprise, we're ready for your "rear" attack! Okay, with that short distraction out of my way, CHARGE! Taking casualties... FIX BAYONETS AND GUT THE FUCKERS IF YOU HAVE TO The gates are down, charge through, marines! Another wall to climb.... French marines pull out sabers and kick major asses. We've reached the top,and the enemy are putting up a great last stand. KILL THEM! The last man is executed by firing squad. Just a few more battles.... IGdood
Getting tired of these siege assaults yet? Not I, DEATH, DEATH EVERYWHERE Also, pic of the Tosa Riflemen with Saga colors. Your feeble defenses will not stop us! No, not even cannon towers will stop us! My Tetsubo Monk Hero gets a moment to kill things before being shot/sniped/bombed to death. Meanwhile on the other end of the citadel, my other army is scrambling to the walls. But they're getting raped hard by warrior monks. Red Bears, hold off the monks! Marines, set up firing positions! Sacrificed a few units for that victory, but not too big of a deal. And now the final battle....for the province of Tosa. Steep hill, but at least it'll be problematic for enemy cannons to target us. And for us to target theirs... Soften them up, thanks to the fleet. Archers provide covering fire and BLOT OUT THE SUN. Meanwhile, marines charge in. The reinforcing army will melee blob its way in. NINJAS LEAD THE WAY! Hack and slash. Sucks to be you. Thus concludes this assault. Thus ends the Tosa, and concluding this LP. THANKS FOR READING!!! IGdood
I will now comment on the units and what I felt about them as I used them throughout the playthrough. So, instead of the rock-paper-scissor system that was so prevalent in Shogun 2 and RoTS, FoTS's unit system seems to boil down into 2 simple systems: Modern and Traditional. Modern units rape anything at range, while traditional units rape modern units provided they get into close combat. That's the general gist of it, anyways, but there are a few outliers (Matchlock Kachi, Carbine Cavalry...etc.) Spear Levy - Great meatshield, decent enough defense to pose enough trouble to modern units in melee. Rapes cavalry, but that's about it. Lack of pike wall sucks. Good for garrisoning castles though only keep a few of them. Levy infantry are better at garrisoning anyways since they can shoot, and enemy cavalry units dismount when trying to break into your castle so it's better to get 200 more guns. Levy Infantry - Used these guys most of the time in castle defense, where their piss-poor shooting skills are not as disadvantageous because castle walls provide cover and they won't rout as long as they're in the top floor. Better off not using them for campaigns and offensives though.... White Tigers - Levy with slightly better stats and funnier voice-acting. TIGERS TIGERS TIGERS!!!! Matchlock Kachi - Better morale than levy infantry, being samurai. However, despite their slightly better melee stats and armor, their weapons are outclassed and so they lose to the levy. Though I've heard of rather successful strategies when using them and levies in castle defense where range isn't too much of a factor. Kyoto Police - Spear Levy 3.0, better stats overall and rapid advance makes them more viable as assault troops. However, you only get them when you take Kyoto, and by the time you get there you've probably had a ton of modern units already unless you're playing Nagaoka or some close by Shogunate-supporting clan. Yari Kachi - Being samurai, these guys will deal heavy damage to any modern unit and any cavalry unit. The only sword units out there are katana kachi and Shogitai, and if you're playing against modern armies then yur yari kahi have nothing to fear. Just turn on rapid advance and hope they don't get shot up. Katana Kachi - Being sword samurai, these guys will massacre most modern units they manage to get into melee with. They don't have rapid advance, however, and they fare poorly against saber cavalry. Best to team them up with a spear unit. Shogitai - See above, except more hardcore. Yari Ki - Unlike the lancer cavalry of past games, yari ki actually do alright after charging since they have pretty good melee stats. They're your best solution when fighting enemy ranged cavalry such as carbines though revolvers can still beat up yari ki if used correctly. Bow Ki - Utterly outclassed by any gun-wielding cavalry. Sure, they've got 25 more range, but their arrows do too little damage and they don't fire fast enough to match the killing rate of carbines. Plus, they suck in melee, something revolvers and carbines and imperial guard cav do quite well. Samurai Hero - For a hero, he quite sucks compared to his ancestors. Still 150 range, still the shitty arrows. Craptastic melee stats. The only thing nice is that he has Second Wind, which rejuvenates melee-heavy armies back to fresh fatigue levels. Wooden Cannons - Only useful to blow a few structures. Otherwise, it can't kill units and it barely has enough ammo to destroy more than 2 towers. Only saving grace is how cheap it is. Kisho Ninja - In a battlefield dominated by guns, their usefulness is further limited. You'll have to have very good timing with their Stealth ability, otherwise a single volley is all it takes to wipe out this small band of elite assassins. If you manage to play them right, they can disable whole units with flashbangs/fire bombs. Bow Kachi - They're alright in that they can support your gun units by firing over their heads, something sharpshooters can't do. They seem to fire faster than the bow ki also. Line Infantry - Standard issue grunts, suck hard in melee. Actually deadly when you've unlocked Kneel Fire and Suppression Fire. Bear Infantry - Red, White, Black...they all have the same stats. They have higher morale than line infantry and that's what matters. Shogunate/Imperial Infantry - Actually have good enough stats such that they can stall, but not defeat, traditional units in melee. Shogunate/Imperial Guard Infantry - With foreign veteran training and some levels they can go toe to toe with traditional units in melee. But their awesomeness lie in their new guns, which reload much quicker than that of lesser units. Also helps that they have godly accuracy. Sharpshooters - Best used to cover your flanks and to take out enemies from long-range. Say goodbye to them if they ever get caught in melee. Tosa Riflemen - They're like sharpshooters with better melee stats and can actually hold their own for sometime. Vermillion Birds - They're stuck between Imperial/Shogunate Infantry and Guard infantry. Pretty special in that regard. Foreign Marines - Best of the best, you can stick them in any situation and they will not run. Still can't beat traditional units very well in a straight melee fight, but that's beside the point. Saber Cavalry - Rapes any non-spear unit they can get their swords on. Fare poorly against other cavalry though. Revolver Cavalry - Dual-wielding pistols with spray and pray mentality. They have 9 shots, but when they shoot, things will die. Can easily obliterate any target quickly, they're like the modern version of the yari ki. The modern army's answer to any enemy cavalry, really. Carbine Cavalry - Breech-loading carbines means these guys will be taking potshots at the enemy quickly and accurately. Also possess very good melee stats. Imperial Guard Cavalry - Rape machines on horseback. Their ranged attack and melee stats are OP. Shinsengumi Police Force - For police these guys have both katana and rifle in accord. Well, not really, they're better at chopping things than they are at shooting targets. Remember to use banzai. Parrott Guns - Any army would want 2 of these. They take out hundreds of enemies as they approach from long-range! Armstrong Guns - Like Parrott GUns, except they do an even better job. Gatling Guns - Very efficient in mowing down enemies provided they're close enough.
Rehab
Thanks for the LP, definitely going to be helpful when I finally get around to a playthrough. I had the impression initially that being the last clan standing on the map would get something resembling a special notice, but no such thing happened in Shogun 2. Ah well. IGdood
Thanks for the LP, definitely going to be helpful when I finally get around to a playthrough. I had the impression initially that being the last clan standing on the map would get something resembling a special notice, but no such thing happened in Shogun 2. Ah well. You're welcome. The only special notice happens when you fulfill the mission objectives within the time limit, as far as my experience tells me.
Integrity
Imperial Guard Cavalry - Rape machines on horseback. Their ranged attack and melee stats are OP. oh god yes If I had my way, every army of mine would be Imperial Guard Cavalry, Armstrong Guns, Sharpshooters, and a tiny token force of "stall them so the guns don't die" (line infantry, spear levy, maybe a gatling gun)
IGdood
Dem breech-loading carbines. No ramrod, just plug in a round and fire. Plus, they can even have better melee stats than saber cav, which makes me wonder what the fuck is the point of saber cav.... A shame that releasing the time warp mod (the one that ports over units) is illegal....but if you ask me very very nicely.......haha.
