The Robin amiibo: What could have been

So I had a thought the other day on how amiibo were integrated into the game. If you're unaware, Fates can tell if you have Awakening streetpass data and give you an emblem shield accessory, which means it's capable of reading this streetpass data to some degree. My thought is, why couldn't Fates at the very least detect your avatar customizations from the Awakening streetpass data and change the appearance of Robin to match when the amiibo was scanned? I feel like this was a missed opportunity here by IS.

Because then I'd have to somehow recruit Robin twice

I still want to know why importing an Awakening save ONLY nets you the Emblem Shield. It would be a neat easter egg if Selena, Laslow, and Odin had their haircolors change based off their Awakening fathers if you import a save, or the Robin amiibo bonus as the OP mentioned.

It's because the Robin you get from the amiibo is clearly one from the world of Super Smash Bros. (based on his dialogue), not necessarily from the world of Fire Emblem Awakening. What design is used in Smash Bros.?

You... kind of have to port assets too.

For all of the model MU assets and code for it?

Like I can understand if you think that Kamui's code would work for it... but more than likely it's hardcoded for Kamui.

Why would they do that just for an amiibo? That's *A LOT* of effort.

It wouldn't work for the kids because it's mentioned in a DLC why their hair was set to a default color

I dunno, it was just a neat idea I thought I'd share, even if it was theoretically more effort than it's worth.

At least couldn't they have added female Robin too? The default is based on Corrin's gender, but if it detects Awakenings save data, then that takes priority.

I don't see why Robin's customisation takes much effort, though, considering that the modelling and stuff is already done in Awakening. All that needs to be done should just be importing the data from Awakening? Or does importing in itself takes a lot of effort?

Thing is, the character portrait artwork for Robin in Fates is done in the Fates style, similar to how Chrom, Lissa, and Frederic had such done to them. They would have had to do that for every body type, hair style, hair color, and face option for BOTH Awakening Avatars.

Even if they had made an alternate portrait for the Female Avatar, there is only one Robin Amiibo, and while I can't say for certain if they can or can't, making an amiibo out of an existing amiibo and coding it to do something entirerly different doesn't really make much sense except for a gimmick, such as the Yarn Yoshi amiibos for Yoshis Woolly World or the Kirby, Dedede, and Meta Knight amiibos for Kirby Planet Robobot, which currently I don't even know if those amiibos are actually any different from the standard Smash Bros variants of their amiibos.

If you compare the data for Chrom, Liz, and Frederick DLC and Awakening... they were remade from scratch.

Think about the exponentially harder to reimplement code for Reflet/Robin. And that is just assuming one build for one gender.

I had a look, and while portraits seems to have bits of differences here and there, I still find it hard to believe that IS have completely redone the portraits as opposed to just did minor touch ups of existing Awakening portraits. As for the models, what does Chrom/Lissa look like in Fates compared to Awakening?

Umm... are you misinterpreting my post? I wasn't talking about the art portion of the portraits... The code for the MU construction would have been done from scratch.

As for Chrom, Frederick, and Liz, I meant the assets that aren't portraits... Models and animations are from scratch.

The outline is simply an effect, IIRC. You could even import Awakening portraits if you wanted to in If at this very moment.

Their formats are about as hard as to port as porting the FE6 manakete to FE8.

I think that each of the amiibos should bring a pair of opposite sex characters from their game. Something like this:

+Marth-Caeda: with a female only pegasus knight class for her (Pegasus Princess maybe, equipped with the Wind Lance) with Dancing Blade, Charm, Dual Guarder, Skl/Lck/Res-Taker (just different from the existing ones, and Def-taker makes no sense, maybe speed for Caeda and switch Marth's with skill would make more sense).

+Ike-Micaiah: with Light Sage class (Onmyoji with different growths/caps, just like Vanguard is a version of the Hero class, equipped with Thani) with access to Magic Blade <-1 SKL,+3MAG> (similar to the Vanguard's, but adapted to a magic unit), Healing Hands <Extra Healing when using staves, like in Awakening>, Flare <reduces DEF/RES and recovers HP> (adaptation of her RD master skill), Magictaker (equivalent to Ike's Strenghttaker). I think Micaiah fits better than any other candidate (Elincia or Sanaki) since she plays a more important part in RD and wouldn't make a redundant class with Caeda (pegasus rider).

+Lucina-Chrom: Both Great Lord (with Parallel/Exalted Falchion, while Marth holds the plain ol' Falchion), but making some changes to the skills, like switching Charm for Charisma <+1/-1 to damage dealt/taken> (a lower version of inspiration, but at level 10) and Flare for the male version (to avoid it being redundant with the Vanguard's proc skill).

+Robin-Morgan or Male-Female Robin: Both Grandmaster, making it unisex. Their weapon of choice would be the Thoron and Thunder Sword (stronger version of the Levin Sword without the no Crit/no Skill part), just like their main weapons in Smash. I'd give this class the possibility to get A-rank in both weapons.

Uhm, woah, wait, what? How do I get that Emblem shield?!

(I have Awakening as a download game on my 3DS, Fates as a physical copy, do have a lot of streetpass data on awakening, so what am I missing here?)

..And yeah, I would have liked to not have the default Robin look. I play with a female avatar so for me this Robin look isn't at all familiar. I caved and bought the Robin amiibo just because I had the other 3 and thought, let's complete the set.. but well. On the other hand; it might be weird to scan the amiibo and see a completely different character pop up in your game, no?

If you have Awakening activated for streetpass and you enter the accessory shop, you'll get it as a bonus.

..I never got it. But I haven't opened a save from Awakening since I got fates, did get streetpasses on Awakening since then but maybe that's why..

I'll try and find out what I'm missing, thanks for pointing it out even though that wasn't what your topic was about exactly :)
