[FE8] Sevenized

This is by no means a /MAJOR/ hack, but it's just something I did for the lulz.

New Unit Reference Doc

No screens yet since I've been mostly just f'ing around, but I'll get some up as I test things out and confirm that my adjustments work.

[spoiler=Changelog]

Changelog regarding non-Direct Transfer data:

  • Classes Switch (Units that would be switched based on their inclusion (Farina into Syrene, etc) have been changed to whatever the base class of the FE7 corresponding unit was
  • Bases Switch (Units are brought over with their FE7 Hector Hard Mode bases, including Hard Mode bonuses if they have any)
  • Growths Switch (Self-explanatory)
  • Starting Items Switch (Units are brought in with their FE7 Hector Hard Mode inventory)

Version 1.0 Changelog:

  • Chapter 4: The reinforcement Fetid Claw!Zombie that doesn't attack you now aggros like the rest of the zombies (again)
  • Shops for Chapter 15 replaced Antitoxin and Pure Water with Set's Litany and Thor's Ire
  • Chapter 19 has 0x01's Chest contents of "Fenrir" replaced with Filla's Might
  • Rings now have value, selling for 750-3000, depending on the ring

Version 1.2 Changelog:

  • Character name changes reflecting their FE7 counterparts
  • Reginleif renamed to Wolf Beil, and adjusted to reflect FE7's Wolf Beil stats
  • Lunar Brace and Solar Brace renamed to Heaven Seal

Version 1.3 Changelog:

  • Reginleif adjusted to reflect FE7's Wolf Beil stats
  • Change Seigmund to match Armads' weapon stats, and Seiglinde to match Durandal's weapon stats
  • Add in functioning Mani Katti, and lock it to Eirika (and also, remove Rapier/Seiglinde permissions from Eirika/Lyn and assign them to Amelia/Eliwood)
  • Set up a Heaven Seal specifically Designed to promote Amelia/Eliwood (It's not hard to find)
  • Slight modification to the standard Hero Crest's promotion pointer (shouldn't actually affect anything)
  • Reset Boss!Orson/Isadora's stats to reflect 5x!Orson/Isadora's stats (or maybe not, still contemplating this)
  • Re-checked everything in Nightmare as closely as I could, and all the data for units, items and chapter data appears to be correct

Version 1.4 Changelog:

  • Rename Amelia/Eliwood's class to Lord, and set it to function and promote to Knight Lord
  • Lord PRF weaponry renamed to their FE7 counterparts
  • Lunar Brace and Solar Brace renamed to Heaven Seal
  • Rename DUMMY items, including Light Rune, Mani Katti and Mine
  • Character name changes reflecting their FE7 counterparts
  • Renamed Class Descriptions for the lord trio, as well as some Item descriptions

  • Import animations and map sprites for Amelia/Eliwood, Eirika/Lyn and Ephraim/Hector
  • Palette Swaps
  • Support Syncing
  • Death quote updates

[spoiler=Concerns and/or things that I haven't quite picked up on]

  • I haven't tested this, but do the four rings already work as they would in FE7? It looks like they do, but Nightmare refers to them as "[NAME] (DUMMY)" Same question for "Mine (DUMMY)". Resolved: Despite being named "Dummy" in the Nightmare modules, they function properly in game (but are named "DUMMY" in the game for whatever reason).
  • I've found 2 "Vulnerary"s in the Item Editor. I can see they're clearly different, but are there any ramifications if I set them to operate identically to one another? Resolved: causes no conflict to have two items that are identical
  • Does Syrene's data from the Chapter Unit Editor in 17A cross into 17B? I'm concerned that in Ephraim mode, Syrene won't copy over, but I don't see her in the Chapter Unit Editor for 17B.
  • Will Myrrh being a Tent fuck up cutscenes?

From what i read, The rings have the correct effect, but the animation does not play properly.

Quick question: How much is done?

So far, i've replaced every single playable character, bar the extras like Lyon and Selena, with their respective FE7 counterparts (so what, the 24ish size cast), including:

  • Base Stats (including Con, yup almost forgot that one)
  • Affinity
  • Growths
  • Weapon Levels
  • Starting Items* (I've still got maybe...3 items to work on, like the starting Rapier for Eirika)
  • Added the dancer Rings (which appear to work properly, given my tests so far)

I've yet to do:

  • Anything in FEAdv (so Dialogue, Names)
  • Palettes, Mugs and Sprites (which despite being relatively unfamiliar with, I plan on tackling this, and have taken copious amounts of notes already)

Still contemplating if I should or should not:

  • Change general weaponry that exists between both games to match their FE7 data
  • Switch up Support Data (I haven't explored this yet)
  • Including some villians too, like Darin and Sonia
  • Death quotes, Glorious Death Quotes!

What I'm not touching with a 10 foot pole:

  • Battle animations

What I'm doing right now

  • Testing this shit. I'm afraid that Tent!Myrrh might explode the game, but I'll find out when I get there
  • Also worried that something might screw up with one of the 14 zillion Seth calls in the game

Dunno how frowned upon Double Posting is, but it's just about time to make the live push. I'm modifying just a few more things, after catching an incredible error where I inserted the Level of each unit improperly, fixed a few mis-included items, re-calculated many stats, and completely redesigned Amelia's Eliwood-status from the ground, up. As soon as I finish the last little mathematical errors that I made with Hephraim's base stats, i'm pushing out a patch for public enjoyment use.

I've still got renaming to do, but the functionality is there. Don't mind that Light Rune and Mine are called "DUMMY" in the game. They work just fine, and have proper icons.

Aside from testing out Ephraim-Route Syrene, and any/all versions of Myrrh (for cutscenes or battle), everything looks good.

By popular Request, Lute is now replaced by Nino instead of Erk, and Erk replaces Ewan (as Mage(F) and Mage(M) respectively. Enjoy your little pedobait Chapter 4 mage you chumps.

I don't have much left for a /basic/ run, just a little work on the Lord's PRF weaponry, and renaming things because whynot

Sry Klok (and the other person who downloaded this), but I just pushed out V1.2, which includes name changes for everyone, among a few other minor changes.

Not much is left of my planned changes other than ascetic things, and Lord PRF weaponry things, which I'm releasing tonight.

  • A few specific item and class names

  • Change general weaponry that exists between both games to match their FE7 data (All that's left is setting Seigmund/Armads to have the +5 Def bonus, and test all the PRF weaponry)

I use hxd. It has lots of usefull features like the ability to have two files open side by side, and search for all differences. It can also calculate checksums, (which is extremely useful for checking if you have the right rom), and show the data as text in the format of your choice(the interfce in general is highly customisable. Note that it is intended for general hex editing, not just romhacking, so some tools might not be specific enough for your taste(no corruption or header adding here, although seperate tools exist for those), and some, like file shredding, aren't relevant. It is free though, so no disadvantage in trying it..

I have literally no idea what the hell happened to my rom.

Even loading a save file works hunky dory until I actually pick the file. Nothing got bombed like this until i started using FEditorAdv. I wonder what I did wrong...

fEditor's autopatch (which moves lots of data around) probably got confused by your edits. try using hxd's (or another hex editer's) file compare against a vanila rom to find all free space used by the autopatch, and make sure that you have not used any of this space yourself. If that falis, try opening various versions of the patch in fEditor to see which of them does this.

Feel free to double-post with updates and whatnot. . .and that's about it. :P:

I'll wait until you iron out that Difficult bug in the select screen. I also hope you made lots of backups!

I have like zero backups

But I figure I can reapply my first patch to a new fresh game, as I didn't do a whole lot from patch 1.0-1.2....some work equating to half an hour now that I know what to do (glad im keeping changelogs).
