DLC packs

Hello FE fans.

I have a few questions about DLC for Fire Emblem Awakening. I know this has been asked before, but I thought maybe some fresh opinions would be good, now that they've been out for so long, and whether they've withstood the test of time.

Before I get into this, some info. I am a total newbie. I've never played any of the Fire Emblem series before, only vaguely heard of it. My only experience with turnbased strategy RPG games is Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.

I have JUST finished Chapter 4, and unlocked the Outrealm Gate, only to discover there's TONS of DLC to buy. I Googled for the DLC, but I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the different responses. Currently I have about 9 bucks on my 3DS account, so I can buy 1 DLC pack, or 2 separate ones. My birthday is coming up soon, and I'm probably going to ask for Nintendo Eshop cards.

My playstyle is kinda like Pokemon. Gotta catch em all, rather OCD about experiencing and getting everything.

I have narrowed it down a little bit, to these:

Golden Pack: EXPonential Growth for XP grinding, Golden Gaffe for gold grinding, Infinite Regalia for good items. (I like such games, but I suck at them, I need every advantage I can get....)

Future Past Pack: The history of the future children. More backstory is always good, especially in this manner.

Scramble Pack: ...........Because I'm an anime fan, and a bit of a perv. =P (I'm not sure this is a good thing to pay money for...)

Right now, I can only choose 1 of these 3. The other two I'd have to wait until after my birthday.

So which one would you recommend I get first? SHOULD I even buy DLC, since I have only just started?

Are there any other noteworthy DLC (packs) I "really should get"?

Also, HI!

Hello! Glad to see more people getting into the game. Now, for your questions...

Whether or not you get the Golden Pack depends more on what difficulty level you're playing on. If you're playing Normal or even Hard, you shouldn't really need them, as Reeking Boxes are cheap and readily available on Normal, and SpotPass teams are available for grinding on Hard. Golden Pack is very helpful for Lunatic/Lunatic+, but since this is your first game, I doubt you'd be jumping up to that so quickly.

The Scramble Pack is okay, but the conversations are the important part from it, and you can see videos of all the Scramble conversations on Youtube (look up justonegamr's channel).

The Future Past one is very good. It's got great conversations between fathers and children, the backstory additions are good, and it's difficult enough to be a challenge. I'd highly recommend that. However, I'd say wait to buy it til you've recruited some of the children characters later on, since it won't be worth much to you until then anyway.

For packs you didn't mention: Lost Bloodlines and Smash Brethren are both great packs to get. Lost Bloodlines 2 gives the Dread Fighter class (a male-only class), and Lost Bloodlines 3 gives the Paragon skill (which doubles exp gained). Smash Brethren 2 gives the Bride class (a female-only class), and Smash Brethren 3 gives the Iote's Shield skill (which negates super-effective damage for fliers - not essential, but nice if you're new to the series).

Thanks for your reply, Ecsentret.

I am playing on Normal. I'm definitely not experienced enough to immediately start with Hard or above. After checking a lot of comments about the DLC packs, I thought that since I'm still really early in the game, the XP grinding DLC (EXPonential Growth) would be useful to me since many say it's not useful anymore after you're higher level. That's one of the reasons I prioritized it. Same kinda goes for Golden Gaffe and Infinite Regalia, more gold is always useful.

So Scramble Pack is mostly entertainment (conversation) value? Not worth my money?

And Future Past can wait until later?

So uh, I should wait with buying DLC until I'm further in the game?

No harm in sitting on it; you don't need to pull the trigger right away. Since you are a newbie, I'd suggest just playing the game normally at first. There's a ton of content just in the standard story mode and free DLC, which will keep you occupied for a while.

OK, then I think I'll wait. I've only got this game for 2 days, played until Chapter 4 yesterday, discovered the Outrealm Gate and DLC's.

Apropos of nothing, what is the forum's stance on posting topics? I can already foresee I'll have TONS of questions about the game, many that aren't answered in walkthroughs, FAQs or wikis.

Am I allowed to post a lot of questions topics? Or is it better if I create a dedicated topic, like "Questions about FE Awakening"?

This is a good idea. You'll have a better feel for what DLC you want after you've beaten the game once or twice. Since it sounds like you are a completionist, you might get into the whole "eugenics" thing with coming up with perfect children; your DLC needs there would be different than they would be for purely fluffy story stuff.

There's a thread specifically set aside for random one-shot questions, it's called "I just want to know one thing!", and I would recommend using that whenever you have one of those. You may want to consider a proper topic if you have something that requires a real in-depth discussion with back-and-forth, though.

Scramble: depends whether you place more value on gameplay or aesthetics.

And yes, you'll get a lot more out of the DLC once you've played the game several times. Having all of it roughly triples the replay value, but that won't matter if you aren't getting what you can out of the main game anyway.

Once you're all done grinding and have some powerful guys at your disposal, get Rogues & Redeemers 3. It gives you Limit Breaker which is a sweet skill, plus Ike to add to your team, and he's really awesome. ^^

Every Einheijar(or however you spell it) looks ugly in this game. DLC ike looks like MU with blue hair. I honestly hate how they did that instead of giving the DLC characters their own look.
