  1. 1. How do you feel about the Bride Class?

    • Awesome. Kicking ass in dresses is what I always wanted.
      46
    • It's silly and impractical and you should feel bad for liking it.
      10
    • Bows, staves and lances! Who cares what it looks like?

    • Boo, DLC. Thumbs down.

    • Why did they make Erikia of all people a bride? It doesn't even use swords!?
      54
    • I don't care how they fight, everyone looks so pretty wearing dresses!
      22
    • It's fun but I'd rather have more Dread Fighters.
      14
    • It's horribly sexist. Men should be allowed to wear dresses too!
      23
    • It depends on a lot of things because I'm an indecisive person and none of these other options were good enough for me.

-Pros

The models are really nice

Useful utility and good support skills

It's DLC so I don't really mind that it's silly

-Cons

Why Eirika--it really feels like it undermines her character to not even use her weapon of choice, and force her into a support role when she really isn't one

Super subjective but Dread Fighter literally has all my preferred weapons

Walhart can't wear it, or at least a tux equivalent but I would prefer Walhart in a dress

Micaiah probably would have made a better choice as the Bride rep. I know it's a physically offensive class but it does use staves like Micaiah and she's pretty much the only female protagonist in the series that gets married by default. Plus Bond is a non stave alternative to healing people similar to sacrifice. They probably could have even got away with calling it sacrifice even though you're not really sacrificing anything.

Pros:

-In terms of stat-wise, they're kinda meant to be a physical unit.

-The choice of Lance and Bow means that Brides are built for offence, rather than for staff supports. But at least they're better than War Clerics/Monks.

-Besides Great Lords, Brides are the only non-mobile Lance fighters with no backbones and obvious drawbacks.

Cons:

-I dislike the Bride's battle animation. <_<

-Dread Fighters are way cooler IMO.

Micaiah would be even worse. Nyna would be the best option. She's married, uses staffs, and nobody cares about her so nobody would mind her getting degraded to a 13 year old's waifu material.

I'll repost what I posted earlier today about them:

I adore the Bride class. I love how crazily acrobatic it is. It's like if in Kingdom Hearts 2, during the Beauty and the Beast iconic ballroom scene, a bunch of heartless and nobodies showed up to crash the party, and Sora, Donald, Goofy and Beast all got ready for battle, and then Belle whips out a huge goddamned lance from beneath her ridiculously poofy dress and started beating the shit out of all the monsters while leaping up into the sky like a goddamned dragoon.

It's also insanely useful gameplay-wise, and a dread fighter-bride couple is very useful in Apotheosis, because it means they can pierce Aegis+ or Pavise+ with their choice of physical and magical attacks. No matter what enemy they're facing, they can always target their weakest defensive option.

However, I would have liked it if it were unisex and had a "groom" class too, because doing the shit Brides can do in a fancy tux is almost as crazy awesome as doing it in a huge sparkly poofy dress. I would've liked to see what Fates would've done with it, shame they elected not to put it in Fates, because if they did, that's probably what they would've done with it, like the Maid and Butler classes. Shame they also decided to phone in the DLC by rendering the amiibos obsolete and ludcrously skewing gender balance it in favor of males with 2 more male exclusive classes than female ones out of pure, unfathomable laziness.

As for why Eirika's not using swords, that is obscenely weird, almost as annoying as the Black Knight not getting to use swords, but...

I like to think she picked it up from Ephraim, Innes and L'arachel, three characters she's established to be really close to, like with Ness in Smash Bros. mostly having Paula's moveset.

This is the Awakening section, why are people talking about FE14? You're not making it easy for those of us who would prefer to avoid ti until release, please stop.

Aesthetically, I think Brides look great. Compared to the sprite-based games, I feel like Awakening's animations are much more "realistic" and boring, and Bride's flips and twirls (DF's high jump too) are exactly what I wanted. The glowing rune on the back looks nice too. I'm a little perplexed as to why Nowi of all units got custom Bride animations and everyone else's are the same, though. Hers are even cooler, it would be nice if more units had them.

Gameplay-wise, they're a little odd- I really wish there was a male version.

No opinion on Eirika. Awakening changed/went against canon on much bigger things than her.

It's not indecision, it's discernment! Knowing when to hack out the right class at the right time! Not every situation calls for a girl in a frilly dress!

I doubt that's what they intended (cause they just gave Brides all the weapons they didn't give Dread Fighters and Dread Fighters got there weapons from Gaiden) but it's an explanation that'll help me sleep at night (metaphorically speaking...).

In life as in Fire Emblem, every situation can be improved with a girl in a frilly dress.

Sorry, I didn't figure that was sufficient information to spoil the experience. It's readily available on Nintendo's site for Fates, so I figured it was fine to talk about.

I like dresses and putting people in dresses, the weapon combo is cool, and I don't care how they fight.

On the other hand Eirika should use swords and everyone should be able to get a dress, genderlocks are stupid.

Eeeeehhhh...

I can accept it being an option for certain male characters to wear the bride outfit, if they're characterized as people who would actually be open to crossdressing, but the idea of, say, every male character in the army being forced to wear a sparkly dress and nobody mutinying over it...

...Celica.

Still would be weird though...

So much would be solved by giving the class Swords and DF Lances, then giving DF to Ephraim.

I thought that might be a possibility. I should really get round to playing Gaiden sometime so I can make informed sweeping statements like that.

Edit: Actually thinking about it, Celica would have made some amount of sense given Alm was the Dread Fighter rep. Her weapons would still be off but it'd turn the DLC classes into pure Gaiden reference.
