I'm not going to explain much, but basically I'm planning to rename "Sword of Seals" to "Binding Blade" on the main site and forums.

Thing is, I don't want to do it and suddenly realise everyone hates Binding Blade or something. No actually, I just don't want to have to go and revert the change because that's just double the work : P

Why "Sword of Seals"? Well, there's nothing really wrong with it and we've been using it for ages. It's also the official subtitle according to Nintendo of Japan for what it's worth.

How about "Binding Blade"? It's as close to the "official" Nintendo of America/Europe name as you'll get. It's been used quite widely, from Smash Bros. all the way up to Awakening.

as the guy behind the translation patch logo which says "the binding blade" in huge letters, it's pretty obvious which way i'm biased here :P

(though i am gonna have to beg you to at least keep the "the" in there if you go with binding blade; it just looks awkward without it)

I'd say Binding Blade, since we don't consider things like 'Eliwod' over 'Eliwood'. NoA/E makes what we consider 'official English translation' in most other matters, and I don't think Binding Blade should be an exception.

I've known it for so long as Sword of Seals and suddenly they come up with another title for it...sorry, it just won't do for me.

If it were a one-off thing - as though only Awakening existed - then I'd stay with Sword of Seals.

But considering that Nintendo has consistently called it The Binding Blade without fail since the term first came up, I'm pretty sure that's what the story is meant to be called. Failing all else, I'd go with what the most up-to-date fan translation uses... which, if I'm not mistaken, is indeed The Binding Blade.

I think it's a case akin to Sacred Stones - the sidebar will refer to it as Sacred Stones/Binding Blade, and it'll be called that offhand, but when the full title is used it's The Binding Blade/The Sacred Stones. That seems to be the direction NOA is going with it, at least, given that the 'The' is only not present whenever Sacred Stones drops it as well.

While I am usually someone who is rather critical about localization changes (and I do consider this a change due to the Sword of Seals being named back in Smash Brothers Melee), I really don't see a problem with Binding Blade.

It's effectively the same name anyway. And since it is the current name and Nintendo actually seems to stick with it this time around, I can't really think of a good reason to keep the old one.

Now I just wish we'd get a proper name for Fire Emblem 7.

It's been Sword of Seals for so long; it's what I'm used to and what I will continue to use regardless.

And I just...prefer "Sword of Seals". I don't know what it is, but "Binding Blade" rubs me the wrong way. >_>

Side note: at the very least, I can be happy with "Blazing Sword" instead of "Fire Emblem". That irks me to no end...

Its is likely it will be from now till the end of time be called BB in offical materials. We call it SoS out of tradition that is based on the very lack of offical material. As time goes on, new fans will join the fandom. New fans will learn to know it as BB. Time goes on and the tradition dies. There is no point in resisting the flow. Sooner or later the fandom will call it Binding Blade. Heck, there is translation going on with the name. Do we want to be stuck in our tradition now that the reason for it to exist has died out? Is there really any point?

BB pls

It's "Fuuin no Tsurugi", peasants.

I prefer the official title, not a fanslation

Just to point it out, it *WAS* called officially "Sword of Seals" on Roy's Trophy in Melee.

...then again, Smash Bros. Trophies aren't the best source material.

Honestly, points given out in this thread... I'll have to go with Binding Blade for "ease of use".

But seriously though, for practical purposes, who the hell cares as long as you know what specific game is being talked about? It really only matters on the Serenes Mainsite.
