That's a shame... EOU was a really great game. My fave EO in the series is EO3, so I'm really excited because if this remake says anything, it means my precious EO3 will get a remake soon as well.

But I'm excited for this game as well. I mean come on, EO2 had some AMAZING tracks. Scarlet Rain, the FOE theme, Shiver, the 2nd random encounter theme among others. I just hope the FOEs actually give EXP this time >.>

I've done the post game in every EO I've played huehue. Such addict.

EO3 is my least favorite since it went more typical JRPG of saving the world instead of the people fucked up and are barely getting back to their former glory kind of thing.

I skipped EOU and I'll skip this one too.

You missed out then. I'm glad I finally got around to playing it, after having had it sit on my shelf in limbo for awhile. While I definitely have some criticisms (e.g. spoiling the post-apocalyptic nature before Lost Shinjuku), the story mode handles things for the most part in what I would consider to be a very positive direction. The addition of Gunner and Highlander class, as well as a thorough reworking of all the skill trees and even some minor-yet-serious redesigns/reimaginings of the floor maps give it a very fresh experience. Not to mention all the added conveniences of multiple tilesets, etc.

I am of split opinions on the Floor Jump feature. On the one hand, it's super convenient, on the other, it drains a lot of difficulty out of having to conserve your resources when you can just port back and forth between B8 spring and wherever you want to be. Also some of the tonics you can get are just so OP (+tp every turn, yes please, every time). I haven't dabbled all-too much in grimoire stones, but I can see that being rather unbalancing as well. I do think some effort was made to tweak things up a notch, but I'm not sure if it was (or could even possibly be) sufficient. or proper.

Grimoires took a lot of grinding to perfect, and it wasn't practical until postgame anyways. None of the grimoires you get are really game breaking until you reach postgame material anyways, as the base skills are more often than not more than enough. There are a few exceptions, but most of them are for Alchemist, like Flood from Corotrangul or the Fire Howl you get from Shinjuku wolves if you could get it for Arthur.

But the postgame was almost designed with grimoires in mind, given how absurd some of the 6th stratum encounters can get. So I don't think grimoires were imbalanced, given that the external balancing for the game had them in mind.

Protector, Ronin, Survivalist, Alchemist, Medic

Protector, Ronin, War Magus, Gunner, Medic

Hoplite, Ninja, Gladiator, Monk, Arbalist

Fortress(Runemaster), Landsknecht(Bushi), Medic(Landskncht), Sniper(Bushi), Runemaster(Imperial)

I'll get EO2U, since I missed out on EO2, by that I mean a physical copy.

I only own EO4.

It's interesting, but I was pretty bad. I lost units even in early game.

So I stopped playing it. Maybe I'll contiue it sometime...

That's bound to happen, and is not a measure of your lack of worth. Not in these games.

Also, I should have known better than to challenge Alraune as soon as her quest was available, loool, wiped.

Lololol rip

Alraune gives a really amazing grimoire called "lightning," for Alchemist. Try to get a decent level one next time you go. There's an AI sequence Alraune uses to use lightning specifically when her HP reaches a certain amount, but I can't recall exactly. Anyways, IMO it's even better than Storm Emperor's Volt Torrent due to the low tp cost and high head bind rate, along with its amazing damage.

Edit: I found a good thread with good grimoire tips on gfaqs archive. http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/709464-etrian-odyssey-untold-the-millennium-girl/68647679

Also, yeah getting wiped is pretty normal in EO. This series isn't exactly known for being easy... Lol ATLUS

While the story mode characters seem cool, I'm probably gonna skip this at least for a while. I still have barely gotten into EOU and I tend to have a habit of playing it for a bit when I get it then putting it down for a long time and then get addicted to it.

I am currently playing EOU Classic

Is now on 6th Stratum and trying to finish it before restarting for story mode. And of course the Last Boss is a total bitch

Liek, Bane Lizard and Depth Dancer is pretty much a joke now, and then you throw this crap on my face. Really?

Or maybe its because my team fucking sucks, I run P D L, M H. Most people said M sucks(I freaking love the Refresh and Unbinds though), and my L is actually an S reclassed L.

As for past EO, I only finished 3, which is a pretty fun game

Honestly my biggest problem with the series is how easy it is to be far ahead of the level curve without even trying. Usually I decided to move on once I got all part of the floor covered + most bonus content(lets be realistic here, we're not beating Wyvern at 2nd Stratum level of progress) + killed all FOE in the floor. Doing all of these combined usually put me on 5 levels higher than the standard. Yeah Visil is so EZ when you have a party of level 70's. Of course there is an obvious answer to this(e.g. skip the FOE), but eh....

I, uh, wow. Lvl 70s by the end of Stratum 5? That is pretty severely overlevel, imo, yeah. I just unlocked the elevators and I'm 57, 57, 57, 59, 59. You're not supposed to kill every FOE, maybe one of each type, but the game encourages you to learn their behaviours and sneak past them. If you're entering a new stratum and the FOE isn't redbordered, you're probably over-level. Medusa Trees and Dinosaur Lizard thing were both red when I arrived at least, the stratum 2/3 guys may have been yellow. But they definitely shouldn't be blue. Go back and kill them when you're in the next stratum for their drops, sure, but farming them all is not really intended. Also, wipes happen, and you save your map data, and don't have to retread all of that area again, just map out the new portions. I feel like I should have been logging my levels and bosses for this run, like I'd done for all others, but since it was just a rehash of the first, I didn't feel it needed at the beginning. I think I was 50 for Iwaronaloep? 45 for Golem? 40 for Coatrangl? 15 for Fenrir? No idea on Cerunnos, probably overlevelled for him, due to the 5 days on B8F quest (though I did take advantage of the "sleep in" options 4 days out of 5 to minimize the overlevel).

Then again, that's just my personal preference, different people enjoy playing the game in different ways. However it sounds like you didn't enjoy being over the level curve, so hence I gave my personal advice/opinion.

Anyway, I ran P D L M A in EOI. I've never seen complaints about medic in EO1, and have a hard time imagining critic of them in EOU. (EO2 I can understand, as WM outclass them.) I needed an S for Tough Wing, and a T for the dragons I believe, but on the whole any reasonable team can generally handle just about everything. Like, maybe you do need to bring in a pinch hitter, but I honestly can't say until I get there and experiment.

You start killing all FOEs in your path once you hit the 3rd stratum anyway. You ought to be around level 60 by endgame.

In EO1 at least. pretty sure EOU has stupid broken stuff too.

And no one complains about the Medic in EO1 since they were the best class in the game with the best skill in the game.

Yeah

Story class is clearly more developed than anything else in the game. Gunner has the best skill by far, and a ridiculously versatile skillsets. Highlander is a crazy damage class with crazy buffs and amazing stats

H and DH is stupid for at worst 70%(the 30% is final strat and the beggining of the game when it wasn't that good) of the game, at best 90% of the game including post game. You can trivialize every story boss by using Boosted Viper

Grimoire is the stupidest shit ever. Unlucky guys get garbages and low level skill. Lucky guys gets Flood and Hurricane Punch which practically trivializes every boss

Elder Revenge = no healing ever and practically infinite SP

Floor Jump is a broken kind of convenience

Aside from that the game is surprisingly balanced but eh thats quite a lot

Also M in EOU kinda sucks since their only niche is status recovery. Revive is plentiful, and Healing is provided by Elder + Healing Song

The only thing I know about broken/nonbroken in EOU is that I'm pretty sure they nerfed immunize's damage protection. Truthfully, I haven't even gotten the skill yet, so I am no authority on the subject.

I haven't played very far yet. Is ricochet the skill you're referring to, or is it something else?
