Anacybele
And updated sprites also includes stuff I've touched up over time. :) I realize my first thread didn't go so well, and I've learned the error of my ways now. Some people here will be blunt, but they just want to help me improve. No one's really trying to attack me, amirite? I may still be disappointed if someone points out a bunch of errors on a mug or sprite I liked a lot, but it should be even better if I correct those errors! So no reason to get real defensive or hostile. Just gotta be open-minded... Know the right things to say... Think before I act, basically. Anyway, as some people already know, I've been spriting for some years now, though I don't do it constantly, as I draw and write as well. And since I'm such a busy person, I'm afraid I don't do requests. Though I do enter contests every now and then. Anyway, since my old thread, I've touched up a lot of the old junk I made a long time ago, and I know there are still some sprites left that could use cleaning up, but I'll show what I've got anyhow. Most are in this gallery here in my group for my FE fic on DA. I do any kind of FE GBA style sprite from mugs to battle sprites to items and overworld sprites. I've also begun doing maps. Here's the one I did recently. It's the battle map for chapter 2 of my fic. The blue units are Ranulf and Elincia (she's reclassed to a Swordmaster) and the green guy up top is Ike, whom is actually unarmed in this chapter because these bandits stole his sword (despite that I love him, I also enjoy picking on Ike, lol). Read more here. I made Ranulf's overworld sprite myself. I also realize some of the units are placed incorrectly. I got a program called Mappy to make maps with and I still don't know how to add unit sprites with it. I had to do that part in Paint. Could someone help me out? xP Also, I'm still a newbie at maps, so bear with me. I know it's not the greatest map in the world lol. These are some sprites I did just for fun and practice really. An RP character named Jayla, who is essentially myself without glasses. I drew the armor from scratch, otherwise it is a splice of Tate, Lucius, and Fir. I know the armor is slightly off center, but I just never got around to fixing that because this mug was just for practice, really. Jayla's class line is Blade Knight -> Blade Paladin -> Gold Knight, just to clarify. Battle sprite of an RP character belonging to a friend. The character's name is Dravid. Base was the Myrmidon sprite. Note that Dravid's outfit is meant to be simplistic. I also do sprite comics, btw. You can view them all here as well as in my fanfic group mentioned above. Note that many of them don't actually have any humor. But some will be funny, don't worry. :P Lastly, here are my latest sprites. :) This is Kiara, a cat laguz girl and yet another character set to appear in my fanfic. She will be the object of Ranulf's affections and eventually fall in love with him in return (though Ranulf won't know it for awhile). Kiara is a shy girl, though, and is especially afraid of beorc. She's not used to them at all, and she's hardly ever seen any, much less met any. I made these for the current contest at the Deviantart FE sprite group that I co-founded. The mug is a partial splice of Florina and Ninian. I drew Kiara's outfit myself. The battle map for chapter 3 of my fic: The remake of the battle map for the first chapter of my fic (there is no prologue battle): And a new mug: His name is Kael and he is Ike and Elincia's son. He'll be one of the main characters in my fic's eventual sequel and he takes well after his father. His class is Ranger, then he promotes to Hero, then Vanguard. Kael eventually becomes the leader of his own mercenary company known as the Ike Mercenaries (it's obvious where that name came from lol). They are the group that succeeds the Greil Mercenaries, whom have pretty much broken up after the events of RD. "My mother no longer considers herself to be royalty. So I'm not eligible for the throne. And even if I was, I would refuse it anyway. Becoming a noble or royal would go against everything my father taught me about life as a mercenary. He would have trained me for absolutely nothing." - Kael Edited October 4, 2012 by Anacybele
Nanami Touko
Kiara's collarbone lines are a bit stiff, might wanna work at that. And that map... yeah I'll leave that to the mappers here, but it's really sloppy. Especially the mountains.
Anacybele
Kiara's collarbone lines are a bit stiff, might wanna work at that. Really? I used Lalum for reference, since I was going for something similar. But yeah, I figured I didn't get that right anyway. xP And that map... yeah I'll leave that to the mappers here, but it's really sloppy. Especially the mountains. How so? Could you be more specific? Sunwoo
I'm not a mapper or a spriter, but if I may ... your map looks a bit too ... well, artificial, I guess. The mountains look too straight and perfect, and not really natural. The winding pathway makes me think that someone created it and not that it actually exists in nature, you know what I'm trying to say? I think it looks good, just doesn't look like it would happen in nature.

Stick to FE7/8/the better spriters out there as references. and I can't really, I don't do maps o 3 o but what seoyeon said makes sense. Mountains are a natural occurrence, but yours look manmade, flat, and they don't rise/fall with the height levels of the road. Perhaps I should work with a different terrain first? Seph: Ohhh, okay. Yeah, I tend to like FE7 and FE8 mugs better myself.
Sunwoo
Ah, I see. Well, I was going for a curving/snaking mountain path here. Guess I didn't pull that off right, though, lol. Well, if you want to work with a mountain terrain, you should probably look at mountainous maps for FE7 and FE8, if you haven't already. See what they did and how it looks natural and what you did differently and might seem off. Or, starting with a simpler type of terrain would work as well. CT075
no path is going to go for that long without breaking off try to segment it a bit more also that cliff formation looks too artificial
Chocolate Kitty
uh reference fe7 mountains basically not much more i can say the paths are very uh what's the word bad is probably going to make you ignore me so uh not very good? everything is way too uniform, basically just reference some fe7/8 maps and try to emulate their type of placement with mountains and such. paths usually don't last for that long, they sort of fade in and out, there are also light grass paths you could use. tl;dr: straight lines are never your friend also this: is backwards, the left cliff tile is not facing the same was as the right one Edited August 21, 2012 by Kitty of Time
deranger
Check out Prime's out door maps tutorial in the spriter's resource. Essentially, you have too many straight lines, such straightness never occurs in nature, and even human beaten paths don't follow such patterns. Anacybele
Yes, look at FE7 and 8 maps. I got it now. xP Thing is, I couldn't find many, even by Googling. Can someone point me out some good references? EDIT: Ah, thanks, Deranger. Edited August 21, 2012 by Anacybele

Loki Laufeyson
Mapping is something i dont do but yeah, the others mentioned that there path. It looks like Lombard street in San Francisco. Which shouldnt occur in FE. Also tile spam it looks like. Dem mountains... Theres also a lot of repeating tiles and stuff. I wish i could be more specific but ack not a mapper. Kiara's collar bone and her shoulder a bit pillow shaded. Raddy's Dravid's shading in the middle seems off. I know hes not supposed to have a belt or anything but maybe try shading a bit where his waist is?
Anacybele
Mapping is something i dont do but yeah, the others mentioned that there path. It looks like Lombard street in San Francisco. Which shouldnt occur in FE. ...Someone actually said that same thing on DA. But I'd never heard of that road before then. So the similarity is unintentional, I swear. Also tile spam it looks like. Dem mountains... Theres also a lot of repeating tiles and stuff. I wish i could be more specific but ack not a mapper. I don't know what to say to this, honestly. All I know is that I know I shouldn't tile spam and really tried not to. Kiara's collar bone and her shoulder a bit pillow shaded. Raddy's Dravid's shading in the middle seems off. I know hes not supposed to have a belt or anything but maybe try shading a bit where his waist is? I know not to pillow shade either. How is it that I keep doing stuff that I know I shouldn't do and that I try not to do? I don't understand it. I'm not saying I won't fix any errors, but still. I'm annoyed at myself here for making the same mistakes over and over. If I feel like editing the Dravid sprite, I'll add that shading. Loki Laufeyson
In regards to pillow shading, this helps detail what it is and junk.
Anacybele
While I already knew what it was, that little tutorial is still helpful in telling me exactly how to avoid it. Thanks a bunch, Florina!
Jubby
I like the concept for the map :P The whole maze thing would make for some EXTREMELY frustrating (and therefore excellent) gameplay. The main thing to do, usually, is to take what you have, use it as sort of a concept map, and then actually going about making it look natural and smoothing everything out (That is to say, roughing everything up, I guess) If you're still confused about the mountain thing, try comparing yours to this (one of Feaw's contest maps) http://serenesforest.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=30869&view=findpost&p=1885566 See how his are all crazy with jagged peaks and whatnot? Granted, Feaw's mountains are actually a little more crazy than what you'd find in vanilla FE, but it's a good reference nonetheless :P
Anacybele
Haha, yup, if my fic were a game, it would be one of the hardest games in the series, possibly THE hardest. :P But the fun kind of hard. Nobody likes the frustrating-and-makes-you-want-to-pull-your-hair-out kind, after all. Ooh, I like that map you showed me! Yes, it should make an excellent reference for improving those mountains of mine. Thanks a bunch! :)
Original Alear
As far as map references go, you could also look outside FE6-8 for some ideas. SF doesn't seem to have all the maps, there's also this site: http://www.fireemblemwod.net/ It's in spanish, but it should be easy to navigate to various chapters, and some of the pages also have english versions (look in the upper right on chapter pages). I rather like the gold knight sprite, is that something like what an FE8 great knight uses? I think that the gauntlet on the left hand might be a little funny looking and lacking in detail compared to the one on the right...kinda looks like some sort of triangular mitten. But I do like a lot of the rest of the armor, especially the leg/cape tuck thing. I think the sword blade looks kinda plain when I compare it to the cav or pally's sword, but I do think the hilt is pretty good. I don't art so take this all with some salt.
Anacybele
Well, I know little Spanish, but I could try. xP And yeah, actually, the Great Knight from FE8 was my base when I made the Gold/Silver Knight sprites. Thanks a bunch. :)
Jubby
looking outside of vanilla FE, you can also usually check out the mapping competitions and anything by Feaw, Primefusion, and Kitty of Time are basically excellent references :) I mean there are many other good mappers out there too but those three are probably the very best and their stuff is in a lot of the comps I actually like the frustrating hard pull your hair out kind :P
