Seph will be here to rip your self-esteems balls off shortly and tell you to never, ever custom until later

Your body's and faces are oddly proportioned (necks are too long in 2 and 10 clearly), and the colors are off in some too.

Try sticking to simpler splices (don't custom), from two or so mugs. 7 and 8 to some extent didn't turn out too badly. It all takes practice.

7 and 10 are really the only good ones.

1: Shading is blocky.

2: Proportions asdf.

3: It's ok, but the shading needs work, ESPECIALLY the forehead.

4: ಠ_ಠ

5: The shading on the clothing looks very chunky.

6: ^^^

8: Head looks weird and misshapen. Also, shading on the clothing is chunky.

9: He's sorta missing an eye. Good otherwise.

Yeah, and 10 has a long neck.

On the FC: The only good shading is the shoulder armor and the hair. And some of the hair has issues anyway.

tl;dr: Work on your shading :3

Ha ha ha ha... Yeah, don't try customing until you've practiced with splicing a lot, or have previous IRL or online art experience with proportions, shading, etc.

(There's one certain member, username April, who will always disagree with this, but just ignore him. The majority of the spriting community agrees with my suggestion).

7 and 10 are the best. The rest have off proportions, shading, and colors o ~ o

You'll get there if you keep practicing, but, stay away from doing any sort of custom work for a while.

Someone made a Basic Splicing Guide here some weeks ago, but I forgot who it was.

It might have been Maklo, but probably not. Someone know where it is?

It was Maklo, and it's in his gallery.

His to be more precise.

But yes, it is in my gallery. I should mention though that it's a bit rough at the moment, but should still serve as a good start, I hope.

I was going to mention it myself, but I thought it would make me look smug.

Fix'd.

But it's a good tutorial D:

You should give it to all the new spriters!

1. Her face is angled weirdly. Palette is too similar. Looks like you only used like 5 colors. (i think 16 is the good limit) Her hair has shading issues.

2. Dude's head is wonky and his eyes look like they dont match. His head is also sitting oddly. Like Joerachi said, proportions are really off.

3. The bangs dont line up right with the face. Shading issues.

4. Her hair has no shading whatsoever and her face doesnt either.

5. Messy.

6. Better but her clothes are still a bit messy.

7. Yeah thats not bad!

8. Head is too small for the body.

9. Dude's missing an eye. Dunno if thats intentional or not.

10. Thats looking good.

Its not a bad start! Just keep practicing, read up on some of dem tutorials and junk! ;)

Oh, look, I got around to splicing some more stuff:

Younger Eirika (Lilinia and Eirika):

You need more shading where the hair touches the body. Specifically, the second shade. The armor could also stand to use more of the second shade. The neck also lacks shading, and the hair on her right/our left side under her head is awkwardly shaped.

The other one is fine.

Better. The way you used the lightest shade there is a bit awkward, I suggest thinning it out a bit more which will make it flow more. Reference characters like Isadora or Brunya for shading in that area.

These folds seem exceptionally straight. I think using a more suitable color like a dark red would make it blend better.

As for ideas, how about a swordfighter or something?
