I have literally never seen this before and have no idea what i've done to cause it

Edit: turns out Chapter 2 does not like it if you give enemies Bolting? I think?

huh, interesting. it was inevitable considering a huge chunk of snes games from the 94-96 era have antipiracy screens just like this, but it's neat to actually see it in action! kinda surprised the english part is in that font rather than something more compact like what super metroid or earthbound have, but there you go

now i find myself wondering about searching for one of these in fe3 or 5

I wonder if fe4 has any other antipiracy, like earthbound does.

I encountered that problem in a regular rom once in chapter 4 after conquering Thove. It was super weird.

That's pretty neat... kind of, to see, but it never happened to me though.

That font is actually pretty good looking, and it's well written too.

Why did no one use that font for the patches ?

Me too now actually, now how would one go about triggering that in FE3 and 5, hmm?

actually i'm fairly sure that's the alttp font, which most fe4 patch builds (plus the american version of fe7) used. it looks a bit different but not substantially so; i'd need a clearer screenshot at native resolution to be sure, but it's not a big deal (probably wrong anyway)

Try runing it them on coppiers and inacurate emulaters, as these kinds of routeiens often check system specs that are the same on every real console. Also try moding and corrupting the game to try to get it to fail any internal checksums, like happened to the op (modding/skiping the oppening developer splash screens was something pirates did a lot, so try that).

come to think of it, there should also be one of the usual "this cart is not meant for pal-region consoles" error messages in there somewhere. how would one go about triggering that in an emulator, though, short of figuring out an ar code to do it? probably a really stupid question but w/e i'm used to being stupid

i should not be this fascinated by these things but here we are. i'm an idiot who finds horace's discovery of the irregularity screen REALLY INTERESTING AND EXCITING

tcrf was my first port of call the instant i saw this thread (it is for basically everything i could spend hours there), but alas, none of the snes fire emblem games have this information on there. i did, however, spend a good two hours comparing these error screens in contemporaneous snes games, and that was fun as hell

this is among the stupidest ideas i've ever had, but i wonder if i can brute-force these screens into tripping by using deliberately wrong action replay codes. i was also sort of thinking of borrowing tcrf's provided ar codes for tripping them in other games to see if that works (not like i have any better ideas)

Honestly, tcrf's snes fe pages are not as good as the same pages on SF, and are not especialy comprehensive. There are no images and the unused non-staff weapons (like the silence sword and the empty b rank light tome) are not mentioned.

TCRF is volunteer based. If you would like to see better content for the pages, review the guidelines of TCRF's goals, and get in there and help out :)

FE5's anti-piracy screen has been brought up on the TCRF forums before, but no one's ever added it to the article. There's a lot of stuff that kinda just gets lumped in the Weird Discoveries thread.

there's no images or much coverage in general for any of its fe pages because a huge chunk of the fe content is underdeveloped and lifted wholesale from serenes, and nobody's come to fix up any of it except fe7 yet :P i don't mind too much since i prefer using tcrf to browse through games with which i'm not as familiar

I've read beta content and cut content of Fire Emblem games on the site before, I've just literally never seen this screen or the "Wait 10 seconds and shut your game off" before.

Copy protection is part of rhdn's perview, mainly due to the unlikelyness of most people seeing it. (see earthbound for an example: http://tcrf.net/EarthBound#Copy_Protection ) However, tcrf's snes fe pages are skelital at best. Someone should add this picture. (i might if no one else does.)

What's this earthbound security?

http://tcrf.net/EarthBound#Copy_Protection

Short version: in addition to a copy-protection screen, like the one in this thread, it boosts random encounters to ludicrous levels (even in towns), and the final boss resets the game and clears all saves. However, emulators are good enough that they don't trip it. The link includes more detail, video/images, and codes to activate these.
