FE12 H3 Blind Playthrough Log

So I just finished my FE11 H5 blind playlog. Thanks to all all the help and advice with that guys. It was really hard for the first couple of chapters, but eased off and eventually my team smashed the game. Everyone says FE12 Lunatic is much harder, and I'm willing to try it. But at the same time I've almost been scared off a bit by comments about it on going in blind haha. So for now I have an opening poll about stuff for this run!

Poll's closed, we have our stuff decided! H3, No mixed, Fighter MU!

Disclaimers:

1. When I say "blind" I do mean blind. I do my research on growths or might even look up secrets, but that doesn't mean I know where things are or how to do it easily. FE11 at least has me familiar with DSFE mechanics.

2. I'm not particularly good at Fire Emblem, just stubborn. As a result...

3. ...Expect a lot of resets. This won't exactly be an efficiency run either, I'll probably spend forever just baiting units if I have to.

4. I might rig* some growths if it's relatively easy to do, ie map save, or short early chapter.

5. Not using DLC stuff (Rainbow Potion, etc)

6. No "How's Everyone"

Its not a "will not replay" more like, I don't plan to replay like, straight away. Maybe in like a year or something I'd come back and try something different with it, I do that with other FE games.

Voted H2, Lunatic is a bit too crazy for a blind run I think, and Maniac makes some characters like Minerva usable.

As for your starting class, in H2 anything works, even Archer and Mage. Picking Mage also has the fun side effect of making MU able to be in physical and magical classes later on, since their Strength growth as a mage is decent enough for some procs here and there.

On Lunatic though, anything but Cav/Peg/Fighter/Merc has a stupidly difficult time with the prologue. Maybe Myrmidon is usable, I haven't tried it.

Warrior gets screwed over by its bases and caps. Not really worth using at any point in the game, sadly.

Since you don't care about getting through the game quickly, might I suggest randomized MU or let people vote for MU (including option sets - like not individual options but rather the MU + all 3 options bundled as a vote)? Can always turn to Lunatic builds

If you are going to find a save file with merged sets might as well find one with H4 unlocked and do a blind H4 run. Seriously, do it. Reserved vote until H4 option is available.

Also, unless you really rig the hell out of your unit level ups you can't smash through this game without the help of the lunatic boosters.

I refuse to do H4 blind. I don't have faith I'd finish a run like that lol.

As for voting on MU, you guys will set me up with like, Res bonuses or something. ;_;

I already know I definitely don't want to be a Cav or PK (there are too many of those in every game as it stands), Archer and Mage seem impractical for obvious reasons (although I don't hate bows, being a Horseman/Warrior with good Bow Rank is something I'd like to be able to do) Knight is boring. That leaves Merc, Myrmidon or Fighter, and Fighter has the best looking mugshot armor. (is Lunatic Prologue even beatable with Archer MU?)

Also I know theres sort of a lukewarm reception towards non LTC videos, but I have a relatively nice setup for recording stuff now in maybe a more LPy format (was messing around with it earlier, can tab between what screen is focused/larger and stuff too), recently replaced had to replace an aging HDD with a new TB so no space issues. I'm interested in at least trying it out, if you guys would rather just have screencaps instead of video of running commentary then I can accomodate. This time though, I'd be editing footage instead of just making it be a shitlong video, so you dont neccessarily have to see EVERYTHING aka hueg video.

Hell I can technically do both.

I did a quick check just now actually, you can 3RKO him with Orphan. That's not too bad.

EDIT: Wow, if you don't grab that you have to use all your vulnerary :(

Archer Prologue is possible. I did it in H2 and figured out how to do it in H3. I wanted to do a video walkthrough of it before my current H3 run but I was too excited to start the H3 run >_>

I meant make the options something like Archer - Orphan, Beautiful, Truth seeker. We wouldn't be voting on the class and the bonuses independently.

Every MU has at least one build that can get them through H3 Prologue.

I heard Mage!MU was great, you should totally do Mage!MU and bench Linde.

Do what this man says. Mage!MU can beat H4 Prologue without ever really needing to reset,

You are cruel twisted people.

BUT I WILL GO OVER MY PROS AND CONS AND THOUGHTS.

ALSO THIS GAME IS BULLSHIT FOR NOT ALLOWING A PROPER RED HAIRED MU, AND 90% OF THE HAIR/EYE COMBINATIONS SUCK TOO. (this is important)

[spoiler=Fighter]w9E9A9C.png

+ Has the best Mugshot, the open shirt and shoulderpads win me over.

+ Hits hard, has a lot of hp.

+ Has base 1-2

+ Berserker is apparently a decent class. Maybe Axe based DK is good too if I used mixed?

- I wanted use bows as a secondary weapon, but apparently Warriors suck :(

- What's the point in making a Horseman with this guy since he got Axe rank?

- Apparently it's one of the easier choices, especially without mixed.

[spoiler=Mercenary]6kBMdfX.png

+ Looks better than a Cav or Knight mugshot.

+ Doubles things, has the usual "balanced" stat spread.

+ With mixed, he could be a cool versatile Horseman if arms scrolled as a sniper after some work in bows, or a Swordmaster or Sword Pally.

- His mugshot armor isn't as cool as a Fighter.

- Sword Pally sounds bad.

- Will probably never have 1-2

- Without mixed probably stuck being a sword Horseman unless you build a lot of Bow rank. I have no idea how many arms scrolls you get in this game.

- It's a little generic.

[spoiler=Archer]49KZdgG.pngRvg7fkb.png

+ Looks better than a Cav or Knight mugshot. Female is slightly ahead.

+ Chipping is cool in a game mode where getting hit hurts.

+ With mixed, Male can become a Hunter (all around better), and then be a versatile Horseman if arms scrolled as a Swordmaster after some work in swords.

+ Probably fun just for being a little different.

- Male mugshot has the same problem as male MU, not as cool as a Fighter.

- Female has a better mug but has female class set so no Horseman, leaving really only Sniper or some kind of Bow General. Without mixed Male is in the same boat except no General.

- Will probably never have 1-2

[spoiler=Myrmidon]ewg77ps.png

Just kidding, I'd never use this.

s6Afu04.png

+ As with female archer, the mug is quite good.

+ Doubles things, stat spread is decent, can be a Sword Pally, Sword Falco or a Swordmaster.

+ Is the midway point for common/uncommon (I think?)

- Still not as cool as a Fighter.

- Sword Pally and Sword Falco aren't so great classes I'd imagine.

- Will probably never have 1-2

- Can't be a horseman

[spoiler=Mage]SZWyiax.pnggXsvfAx.png

+ Looks better than everything except Fighter Mugshot.

+ Chipping is cool in a game mode where getting hit hurts. Having 1-2 is good

+ For Female, Resire/Nosferatu is cool

+ Could use Levin Sword with Swordmaster later on effectively.

- Male has Excalibur but that's B rank so would take a long time.

- Fragile as all fuck so having 1-2 might not even matter unless you dump Robes/Rig HP forever.

- Apparently hard to use and can't be an effective staffbot without prior training before promotion

~ LOL LETS MAKE THE MALE A DARK MAGE ASAP HEROES OF SHADOW GEDDIT

~ For a silly build, FalcoKnight Levin Sword as Female Mage <_<

Obvious solution. Figure out how to hack the game so I can have the Fighter Mug as an Archer or Merc.

Alternatively, figure out how to make a female horseman.

Since you want to see something different (I still wanna be an axeman :() and I don't think I want to do a mage I guess Archer seems a good bet. Probably Farmer > Diverse (3RKO's Jagen if he rolls low on HP and Atk) > Honorable

The following is possible but needs more rigging <_<

Noble (Soldier has to roll low on Atk as well as the Jagen roll so this kind of sucks) > Diverse > Enlightened (gets 100% hp growth but I need to proc 2x def to kill Rody...aka I need a total of 4 EHP over base, so the former looks better)

I don't think I used Javelin as much as I usually do in this game

Also MU's choice become rather irrelevant past completing the prologue IMO. I mean, yeah, the early chapters might be harder, but thats it

Go Archer

You know what, fuck it. I think if anything the amount of ahhhh but what ifs - I've had with just making a fucking MU that it proves that I'll definitely get something out of replaying the game. So I'm in going in proper raw H3; no mixed reclass, no Lunatic boosters, no DLC, nuttin. I threw up a poll at the top for what MU's you can vote I use.

I mean no mixed reclass.

Also I have no idea if that Myrm build is any good because the speed seems overkill but humanitarian seems like a cruddy growth booster and so does wealthy. <_<

EDIT: what the fuck, it's eating up the votes from the last poll so the poll is fucked up. You need to revote. Derp.

As blind as everyone in this thread wants to make me, so that's at your discretion. I mean, my SD playlog was blind but I still looked things up like reinforcements later on and growths individually. And Medeus' stats after everyone said Marth was doubled at capped speed. <_<

To some that doesnt qualify as a proper blind playthrough but *shrug*

Well, here goes:

Mercenary is meh after Prologue, because he's got sword rank and nothing else. He has the potential to beat every other Avatar in the Prologue due to the possibility of a rigged 2 turn Prologue 5, but you don't care about turns, and it is as riggy as strat as they can get. If you want good Horseman for lategame (best lategame class), just use one of the Prologue horseman for it.

Archer is super meh after Prologue. Avatar has the potential to be your best combat unit for a very long time alongside Palla (until your horseman and Catria take over) so wasting him as an Archer->Hunter is super bad and will give you a super terrible time. Use this if you want to limit the Avatar, but I don't recommend it in a first playthrough. Your turns will suffer too but that's irrelevant here.

Mage relies a lot on the other Prologue units (Luke, Caeda, Ryan, Athena etc) to do all the dirty jobs. Can't really take a hit for a long time. Still a beatable Prologue, but not a nice trip through it. After the Prologue, she can Nosferatank in a few maps, but that's better left to Linde or someone else tbh.

Fighter is super great after Prologue because he builds very nice axe rank during the Prologue. Good natural axe users are a rarity in this game (even Barst has his issue) Prone to random whiffs in the Prologue, specially in Prologue 4 Athena Route but a nice Avatar to beat the Prologue with. Note that this guy's Prologue is highly offensive, as it can't really take many hits. If you really like his mugshot and all, I think you should pick this one. Don't care if someone else has done this guy a million times.

Even if you don't want to go with DLC, you might want to give Marth the Growth Drop anyway; he has a terrible time later on if he doesn't cap Speed.

I used a Mage MU recently on H2, and after Prologue I found that she had a good combo of tome rank, magic and speed that allowed her to double and ORKO most things and tank Dracoknights with Nosferatu. She also ended up with 18 Strength as a Sage, so I could turn her into a Dracoknight or Swordmaster anytime if I wanted to. You get other mages, and Linde is pretty good in particular, but they all have a rough start, are basically locked into Sage/Bishop, and tend to want stat boosters to be viable.
