momogeek2141
I am currently trying to play Fire Emblem 5, but I can't seem to find a good translation patch or emulator. I am using the Snes9x emulator, and I patched it with version 0006 H-rom, but whenever I press enter to start the game, the "new game" option or any other option doesn't show up. Does anyone have a good emulator and translation that should work fine?
Celice
http://www.romhacking.net/translations/1046/This is the most complete translation patch available. As far as I know there are two versions of the game, the NP version and the V.ROM version. These can be headered or unheadered, so there can be four potential ROMs you will have to find and try patching. Consult the readme to see what version of the game you need.Snes9x should work fine. I use 1.53 without any issue.
momogeek2141
Can you explain what you mean by headered or unheadered? Because the exact same thing happened, and it was the exact same file.
momogeek2141
Well, I found a different ROM, but whenever I move Leaf or somebody, the game freezes when the menu should come up. Any solution for this?
Celice
A header is an additional $200 bytes added in front of the game ROM, usually when a game was being dumped for identification purposes. They have no actual need to be there. Having a header offsets all internal data, so if your patch says at so-and-so place is Leaf's name, for example, a header can messup where the patch expects data to be.Did you read the readme and see what version of the game the patch needs? momogeek2141
I read the Readme, but all it talks about is how he may not be able to work on it much and to report bugs.
momogeek2141
My ROM is "Fire Emblem - Thraki 776 (J)(V.Rom)[T-Eng].smc" Do you know where I can find the ROM that fits the translation?
Celice
I do not, sorry. I can only say keep looking, maybe even for a prepatched ROM. If you come across headered ROMs, more accurate emulators often strip them automatically, or you can use this tool to strip it manually.http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/593/Although I think your ROM is one that already has a previous translation patch applied to it, from that the [T-Eng] release note suggests. You need to apply a translation to an unmodified, Japanese ROM to start with.
momogeek2141
Alright. Thanks for the help. I just needed a different ROM, and I found one. I can now play it. (Hopefully nothing comes up.)
