TheMoniker
jesus christ hugo got speed. also its gonna be interesting to see ya play with the improvements Just wait until you see Hugo's THIRD level... Hello everyone, and welcome to... The Road to Ruin: Episode 4: Chapter 3: Resting Never Works For SOME REASON, the first generic soldier thinks attacking Ava is a good idea. She doesn't crit him in response, though. Many enemies move closer. Hugo! You have to dodge this sort of thing! Okay, he'll try to tank out the approaching wave on the forest. Torie murders an enemy, but for little profit. IF YOU DON'T DO BETTER TORIE, I WILL DOCK PAY Buck successfully picks up the slack. Okay Ava, hand over the sword! ...Oh wait, Jorin can't use it for some reason... Oh. There's our reason. Hugo doesn't do so great. Jorin fares better, however. The archer knocks down the snag. Not that there's really any point to it. Buck really outclasses these enemy archers. Unfortunately, the occasional situation pops up where I need to use Ava. Vance! Gah! Okay...now to finish him off... With Jorin! These Sybaris cavs are surprisingly resilient. ALL ACCORDING TO PLAN Ava is finally learning to crit, but only at the wrong times! More enemies show up. And just as we were starting to have things handled, too! Defense! And magic! Yay! Just for once, Torie is actually the proper solution for killing something! I didn't expect that to hit anyway. Here's our setup. This side of the river is mostly clear, but there's still plenty of dudes on the other side. Next turn, more mooks from the top! The top merc, myrm, and peg are all new. I'm not waiting any longer, I want whatever's in this village! Villagerette: Wars don’t do any good and people always die. It’s easy to place the blame on the soldiers. But, they’re just trying to do their job. The ones who should take the blame are those in power. They make the decisions that affect so many. Villagerette: Goodness, I didn’t mean to do a war rant. That was kind of an odd conversation...but we certainly profited! Man, some random villagers pay us better than our actual employers...we need a raise! Lucky me, I have just enough money for a new heal. Suddenly, even more mooks, from a different side! I don't think spawning pegs up in the mountains where its nigh-impossible to get at them is very fair...oh well. I have Jorin wait at the edge of the bridge, but not attack. Looks like I got the new staff just in time! Dangit Jorin, I didn't let you attack earlier so you WOULDN'T be hit twice! Oh well, you'll live. Hugo can double pegs if they're carrying javelins. And then she summons more dudes. From now on, this lady will charge towards us. This isn't a good thing. Hey look! MORE SPEED! And strength, too! I initiate the talks early, since it's clear the chapter will end soon. I'll post the dialogue next update. The boss moves before most of the other units, so that means she'll be at the front of the charge. But when we kill her, the chapter ends, and I want to kill as many mooks as possible for XP! I mean, just LOOK at how much XP could be wasted! Hugo visits the house... Freckles: Hiding in the trees or on a hill makes you harder to hit. If the enemy is pressing you hard, try repositioning yourself. It might just give you the edge you need! Man, after all the nice backstory from the last few houses, it's hard to go back to such basic tutorial dialogue! Buck! Well, here we go... This lady immediately charges ahead of everyone else. Jorin doesn't do so well, but he lives. We retreat a bit, hoping to open up attack routes to more enemies... One of them does charge ahead, granting Vance an amazing level. Sylvia's gonn refuse to gain magic for a while. No special boss quotes. I'm trying to draw out as many enemies as possible, and our steady retreat continues... Everyone holds up okay... Now's our chance! TORIE! YOU'RE REALLY ON THIN ICE NOW! Oh well, I guess it might not be your fault. This is before your buffs. I decide I might as well let Ava have a kill. There's nothing to be done about those last three. I have to end this now. BAM! ALL DONE! Next time, watch as Vance starts doubting things! The gameplay is starting to pick up now! I like it! TheMoniker
Hello everyone, and welcome to... The Chapter 3 Wrap-up! I forgot to mention last time, but Jorin got this level. I was just thinking he needed some defenses. Here's the talks we did last time: Jorin/Sylvia: Jorin: How are you holding up? Sylvia: Oh, hello, Jorin. I’m fine, thank you. How are you? Jorin: Now that we’ve got a few battles done with, I’m finding a rhythm. Helps me stay focused and keeps me calm. I’m more worried about you, though. You don’t like fighting. Sylvia: Jorin, you don’t need to worry about me so much. I’m fine. Jorin: Sylvia… Sylvia: …… The fighting has…taken some getting used to. But, if I’m focused on helping everyone stay alive, I’m fine. Jorin: Are you sure you don’t want to just stop this? We can leave, you know. Sylvia: Back home at the congregation we helped a lot of people. We taught them to stand on their own two feet. Showed them how to fend for themselves. I think it’s time I started taking my own advice. Jorin, I know you’re worried about me. I appreciate that, I really do. But, I need to prove to myself that I can be strong. That I can get through this and come out more resilient. So, please…don’t hover too much, okay? Jorin: Alright, alright, I hear you. You’re really inspiring, you know that? If you ever need help, don’t hesitate to ask me, okay? Sylvia: Of course! You’re the first person I’d turn to. Thank you, Jorin. Jorin: Mmm. Okay, let’s get back to it. Show me what you’re made of, Sylvia! Sylvia: You’ve got it! Well, that sort of explains why Sylvia is fighting with us despite having run away from fighting previously. Vance/Hugo: Vance: You must be the new guy Torie was talking about. Hugo, was it? Hugo: It sure is. So are you the boss-man? Vance: Yeah, I’m Vance. So, what made you decide to join up with us? Hugo: Well, I got caught up with som’ real bad folk. They were thieverin’ and the like. Vance: That does sound bad. Hugo: The stealin’ and bein’ rude to folks didn’t sit with me. But then Miss Torie told me about doin’ honest work. So here I am. Vance: You made the right choice, Hugo. I’m glad to have you with us. I hope you’re ready to work hard, though. Being a mercenary isn’t an easy job. Hugo: Oh that’s okay. My mama always told me I was built like an ox. I think I’ll be alright. Vance: Well, that’s good to hear. Welcome aboard, Hugo! Just Vance acknowledging the new guy. Now, for the actual end of chapter dialogue: Ava: Is that truly how you spend your final moments? Nothing but petty threats? What a waste. Your end has come. Vance: The last Sybaris commander we ran into said much the same. That Aksum would be brought to justice. And yet, it’s you of Sybaris who have slain innocents. Comandudette: Are you…that naïve? Comandudette: Nnggh… Vance: Hang on, don’t die! There are so many more questions… Comandudette: Mercenaries…in search of truth…how…odd… Ava: Don’t pay her rambling any mind, Vance. She was the enemy. Vance: ….. Ava: Did you actually believe what she said? Vance: I’m…not sure. Ava: That goes against what you’ve always told us. “Make sure your trust is well placed”. Those words…still resonate in my head. Vance: That’s the thing. I don’t exactly trust Aksum and neither do you. Or at least, I don’t feel that General Valamar is honest. Sybaris may be telling the truth. But, you do have a point. Hmm… Ava: If we can’t trust Aksum or Sybaris, we can trust no one. Vance: The only thing we can do is try to collect more information. Ava: Agreed. We won’t let our guard down for anyone. Vance: We’ll see if we can learn more. I don't have much to say about that conversation. I'll let you judge it for yourselves. Fade to black... Judging by what happens next chapter, I'd say its a bit closer than "looming". This end was really short, so normally I'd just merge it with the chapter 4 beginning, but that had a lot of plot stuff and really deserves its own update. TheMoniker
Hello everyone, and welcome to... The CHAPTER 4 PRELUDE! Well, we're headed back to the allied castle, with hopes of questioning our commanders. Really, is there any reason why telling them we doubt their motives is a good idea? I seriously doubt they're gonna come clean with any information. At all. Valamar: I see. That’s quite the report. It would seem that Sybaris hounds you at every step. They’re persistent. Vance: It’s not just soldiers that have appeared at every turn. Valamar: Oh? And what do you mean by that? Vance: There have been…rumors. Valamar: I’ve no use for rumors, boy. Don’t waste my time. Vance: Every Sybaris commander I’ve fought has told me the same story. Vance: That you’ve been lying to my friends and me. That Aksum must be brought to justice. Valamar: Pah. How ridiculous. You don’t honestly believe that rubbish, do you? Vance: I’ve survived this long by being cautious. Valamar: I’m not interested in your life’s story. What I want to know is are you still going to work for me? Or, are you going to walk away because of a few rumors? And, just in case you forgot, these “rumors” were started by the enemy! Valamar makes a pretty okay argument. Why should we believe the ramblings of the opposing team? Of course they believe they're in the right! Everyone believes they're in the right in war! ...Well, most people, at least. Some people know they aren't right, they just don't care. Vance: Okay, you’ve made your point. We’ll keep working for you. Valamar: ……I see. Valamar: You’ll find your next assignment there. Wait for one of my officers in the reception hall. He’ll fill you in with all of the details. Vance: Understood, General Valamar. Hmmmm? Woah...nice portrait! Valamar: I don’t trust those mercenaries. Vorlu: You don’t trust any mercenaries, sir. Valamar: These ones I trust even less. Typo... W-wait...he's not referring to US, is he? Vorlu: At once, sir. Vance: We’ve been ordered to go northeast. Our next assignment is waiting there. Buck: Northeast? I wonder what they want us to do. Vance: We’re supposed to get filled in on the details. We’ll just wait here until the officer shows. Ava: ….. We all disperse...although this talking is kinda dissonant, considering what's probably coming our way... Torie: Is something wrong, Ava? You look worried. Ava: …Something does not feel right. Torie: What do you mean? Ava: Why are we waiting here for briefing? We’re usually just told what to do straight away. Torie: Maybe the general just doesn’t have time? I’m sure he’s got lots to do. Not that I mind. Ava: ….. Who are they? Oh no! ARE THEY GOING TO TRY AND KILL US? Vance: Can I help you? Genenemy: You must be some of the mercenaries we’ve hired. Vance: That’s right. We’re actually waiting to be briefed on our next assignment. Genenemy: Aksum thanks you for your service in these dark times. Vance: Um…thank you. Swordster: Your carriage awaits. Genenemy: Yes, yes, you’re right. Hopefully the damage in the south is not too great. Vance: Damage? Will this be important later? I don't actually know. Genenemy: We intend to survey the damage and lend what aid we can. Buck: That’s pretty noble of you. Genenemy: A country is only as strong as its people. If they suffer, it is our duty to help them. I will make sure the people have what they need. But, I’ve gone on long enough. Excuse me. Okay, I guess he isn't going to kill us... Buck: Who was that? Vance: I have no idea. He was definitely different, though. Not your average person. Buck: With clothes like those he’s probably important. Speaking of important… Vance: Hmm, they should be here soon. Let’s go check. No, don't go in there! Stay where its safe! Vorlu: Assignment? Oh, is that would the general told you? He does like to downplay the situation sometimes. Vance: What’s that supposed to mean? Vorlu: It looks like you’ve outlived your usefulness. Welp. Vance: What!? Why!? Vorlu: Are you dense? I just told you. You’re of no use to us anymore. If you’re of no use, you must be trash. And trash must be disposed of. Some dudes run out... Don't worry Vance, we can probably totally take these guys! Vorlu: I’m afraid so. Time to say goodbye. Vorlu: Run? Hah! That’s a good one. Though it would make this more entertaining. Just try to escape. Vance: Well, there’s no way I’m going down without a fight! Apparently, it takes some people a while to figure out the message... Vance: They’re trying to kill us! We have to run! Ava: So, my suspicions were correct. But, why? Why are they doing this? Vance: There’s no time for that. Let’s GO. END DIALOGUE Okay, let's survey the map here... This is an escape mission. We're trying to get to that tile there. There's a merc guarding it, but he's nothing that special. Yorlu might not be ENTIRELY unbeatable, but there's no easy way to kill him. Not sure what happens if you actually do. Or if he moves to attack your starting position. Really, though, it's safest just to run away. He himself won't be chasing after you, but there are OTHER reasons to hurry. The enemies have finally started mixing magical units into their repertoire. Of course, Sylvia is the only one who has good RES, so this is kind of a problem. These units are placed close to the start, but we'll still have to be careful who kills them if we want to get the chest. New icon! There aren't that many enemies NOW, but more are coming. Next time, watch as I try to escape the castle while being hunted by my own employer! This chapter caught me pretty off guard, since it's totally new and not just freshened-up old content. I'll have to play this one blind!

Darkpaladin109
Yeah, I remember Chapter 4 being a lot different in the previous patch. It does make it more interesting, since the previous version of it was yet another outdoor chapter, so seeing it get turned into an indoor one gives the chapters a bit more variety. TheMoniker
It was also an annoying survival map with a boss that broke the game if you killed him (provided you didn't skip the cutscene). And to answer one of your questions yes, Yorlu will chase you if you leave someone in his range. Oh, that's what map it used to be...I remember hating that map, I'm so glad I don't have to play it again. Wat No one has reported this ever. Can you give some details? Not sure why you need them, but basically, the chapter would appear to work fine after you killed him, but when the ending cutscene started it would glitch out and eventually start doing the "screech of a thousand condemned souls" at you. Hello everyone, and welcome to... The Road to Ruin: Episode 5: Chapter 4: Desperate Escape We start our break for freedom by having Hugo murder the nearest soldier. I realize I've forgotten to show their description. Still nothing special. First turn setup. I'm trying to work my downwards as fast as possible. We survive the initial wave. Hurrah! More enemies begin approaching. Again, Yorlu isn't going to chase you himself. The real reason to try and hurry will appear shortly. Good, we need that. Huh, these soldiers are level 3. Now that I think about it, none of the ordinary mooks are higher than level 4, yet their stats are way high! I guess this is to discourage trying to kill everyone, and to encourage simply exiting ASAP. It works. There's just no TIME, I HAVE to let Ava help! Here's our setup for the second turn... Torie eats a bow hit. She'll live. More mooks down here... And some knights up here. Wait, 36 HP? Something isn't right... WOAH. While these stats aren't INSANELY uber to the point of being "advancing wall of instant death", there's no way we can take these guys on adequately. 16 defense is nigh-inpenetrable to us right now, and we still have no magic users. Hugo eeks out a level somehow, and breaks his speed streak. Oh well. Hurrah! These knights ARE going to chase us. We'd best hurry. Hurrah, we dodged almost-death! Man, so many enemies down here! And now that's gone. Oh well, it was kind of useless anyways. I decide the best strategy to escape is to put all my units on one side rather than splitting up. In retrospect this was probably a bad idea, as the tiny corridors on that side resulted in my units tripping over each other. Nobody has that much RES, so this is always a relieving sight to see. More from both the bottom and top... These guys are here JUST IN CASE you thought you could beat the knights. I love how this lady is just continuously getting every single stat but the two she needs most. As you can see, this very narrow corridor will be hard to navigate. This will take its toll on me further on down the line... Luring tactics! Hugo can double shamans, you know. THE BOBBIES...THEY'RE COMING... Normally, I'd let this guy attack me first, since I can kill him in two hits, to risk getting hit only once. However, the rushing strategy forces me to attack with Jorin on player phase. Thanks to the narrow corridor, I can only attack this guy on one side as well. This is actually a problem. Speed! And now here's the problem with my "one side" strategy. Everybody is having trouble using their full movement range because we're jammed in this narrow corridor! AND IT'S A BIT LATE TO GO BACK! And did I mention? JUST IN CASE YOU THOUGHT YOU COULD SURVIVE A TANGLE WITH THE PROMOTEDS! Phew! Let's see what's inside... ... Honestly, I was kind of hoping for a special weapon or something. Oh well, more money is always nice. We're all just shoving our way through, trying to stay alive. We're literally only one tile out of that knight's range. She's the only one that can one-round him! Man, I wish I had more units that could double... I forgot to mention this earlier, but I switched the side box colors to a nice orange. Vance's number is only a 6. There's absolutely no way to fight these guys. Of course, the fact that I'm close enough to get these numbers should tell you that I'm not exactly in a good position right now. Hugo's gonna have to eat a round. He does. Just a straight shot to the boss...then out...I can do this... Careful... Geese does move, although honestly that was pretty predictable. He comes out on top in the fight, but thanks to Jorin's weakening we'll be able to kill him this turn. The wall is only 1-thick, so all the edge tiles are STRICTLY off-limits. Not the time, Torie! Jorin is making sure to get at least one important stat every level. When you have FE6 growths on everyone, that's an important quality. Hugo's gonna have to eat another round! These guys offense really isn't THAT threatening. It's the fact that they simply will not die no matter how hard you try. One more healing level... And we're out. Vance: We can’t let them catch us! Keep running! Fade to black... Torie: Why!? Why are they doing this!? What did we do!? Vance: I’m… hah… I’m not sure, Torie… This is…really sudden. Ava: If they catch us…we’re dead. It would be best to keep moving. Vance: Yeah…we’ve got to go, guys. Keep running! We run offscreen, then fade to black again... Well, that's the end! Normally I'd make a separate update, but that was short I didn't feel the need... Wait, a GAIDEN? Ooooooohhhh... Next time: We get an armor! And a lance cav, and a fighter, and a myrm, and a soldier, and another fighter... Well, that was a very fast-paced, fun chapter! Good job, Prime! Primefusion
I don't get what Sylvia's problem is. She's got a 45% magic growth, I swear. She just straight up refuses to use it, even for me.

Klokinator
It was for the old map which doesn't exist anymore. I was asking because it's for a map that doesn't exist anymore! I doubt it would carry over into the new version. Hello everyone, and welcome to... The CHAPTER 4x PRELUDE! Oh, I get it. We're taking control of another dude this chapter. I take it the two stories will eventually intertwine? This guy is apparently a corporal, so no idea why he hasn't "learned first hand" already. Fade to black... We're in a town, with a lance cavalier... Aaron: But for how long? This war has been moving like wildfire. And for what? What can be gained for all this? What can either side possibly hope to achieve? What was Sybaris thinking when they started this? And then a generic blue archer walks in. Generic blue archer: I bring word from the captain! We’ve received reports that Sybaris is on the move. Well of course. Aaron: So what does the captain want us to do? Generic blue archer: Much of the town has been evacuated through the underground passages. Right now many of our men are at home with their families. Aaron: One last goodbye before the hammer falls… Generic blue archer: We need to find them and have them report for duty. The situation will become dire soon and we need them. Aaron: Knowing some of them, they’re likely trying to get a drink in at the bar. Alright, then let’s get moving. Generic blue archer: Yes, sir! Narration: Visit their homes in order to recruit them for battle. Should any of these soldiers fall, the battle will continue on unaffected. N: If Aaron dies, it’s game over. Be careful! END DIALOGUE Okay, the mysterious text boxes explained it pretty well, but let me explain it again. We'll be in control of multiple generic units this chapter, who we can sacrifice as we please for no penalty. However, they have to be gathered first. Most of them are too stupid to notice the hundreds of enemy soldiers that will be outside their doors, so we have to visit the houses and get them by hand. Eventually, if we do it right, we'll have a nice-sized army gathered off to fight off the invaders. If we do it wrong, we'll lose as many units as we gain, and it will turn into a desperate struggle to protect Aaron. Speaking of invaders...we should check out the town and see if any are here... Hmmmm... Well, it appears we're alone for now...as you can expect, that won't last long. Here's Aaron, a lance knight. Normally I'd post his growths, but neither he nor the generics can gain any XP this chapter, so I'll wait. You know, the thing about not being able to gain XP...it can be done right and it can be done wrong. This chapter does it right. By giving you few things to really gain by killing everything, it leaves you free to actually pursue your objective, that is, defending the town. You know, you might be able to last the whole chapter by retreating to the fort at the top...the enemies would have a tough time getting you there...but then...nah, it wouldn't work. You'll find out why soon enough. I'll try to show off the generic's stats too. One thing to keep in mind though, these generics are generic. Very few of them are really packing any special equipment or stats. Next time, watch as I defend the town HEROICALLY! You know, this chapter was a bit oddly timed. We suddenly learn that Aksum was EVIL ALL ALONG...then immediately get placed in control of its soldiers. Oh well, any other time probably wouldn't have worked. TheMoniker
Hello everyone, and welcome to... The Road to Ruin: Episode 6: Chapter 4x: Part 1: Worthless yet Blessed Okay, we need to get as many troops as possible as fast as possible. Here we go! Soldier: The one time I need booze and I’m all out. Went through the last of my stores a week ago. I think. I can’t recollect too well. Aaron: ….. Soldier: Oh, don’t give me that look. Fine, I’ll fight this one sober. Lemme at ‘em! This soldier isn't a very good soldier, but he is a strong fighter. Immediately after we've finished moving... Reddier: Sir! What are your orders? Dude: We’re here because this town has its own garrison. Ignoring the troops here would cost us dearly. We can’t afford to be attacked from behind. Reddier: Understood, sir. Dude: Good, then order the men into position. Generic blue archer: They’re here far sooner than anticipated! Our troops inside are still getting ready! Who knows how long ‘til help arrives! Aaron: We’ll have to rally the men in town quickly. How long we hold out here will decide the battle. You’re an archer, right? Have you ever used a ballista before? Generic blue archer: Um…well…I’m new and I don’t know what that is… Aaron: There’s a few here in town. Use them to weaken the enemy. Generic blue archer: Well…I’ll try. Aaron: If you can’t figure it out, maybe another soldier knows. But we have to move now! Let’s go! Believe it or not, having the archer(who, by the way, is the ONLY archer around) use the ballista is actually a bad strategy, because it's right in the open where the enemies can attack him(or in the case of the fort one, too far away from the enemies to be useful). Not to mention, their damage isn't exactly amazing. The archer will be much more effective on the front lines. Now, let's look at those enemies... Yup, just like that they've taken over half the town! Hope you didn't expect the peace to last long! Here's the armor dude. Nothing too special, but our main mercenaries aren't here, and our generics will have a hard time pushing forward to get to him, especially since there's so many dudes around. If you actually kill him, Aaron will get to keep his short spear in future chapters he appears in. Iron longbows? Like in dream of five? Man... These are basically the axe/lance equivalent of what blades are to swords. The enemies get so many cool toys... Poison TOO? I hate poison! My goal is to not get poisoned once in this entire hack! Soldier sympathetic: I’m sorry sweetheart, but…I have to go. Freckles: Dad I want to fight too! I want to show those thugs! Soldier sympathetic: Absolutely not, young man. You take your sister and evacuate with everyone else. Freckles: But, dad I— Soldier sympathetic: No buts, mister. Get moving! Freckles: …Okay, I’ll keep Emily safe. Just promise you’ll come back to us. Soldier sympathetic: …I’ll do my best, son. Emily: Daddy, no! Freckles: Come on Emily, we have to go. Soldier sympathetic: ….. Soldier sympathetic: For the kids sake I’m going to give this my all. For Aksum! An armor? This guy doesn't look like much, but he's actually INSANELY useful, or at least he was to me. Most of the generics have paper durability, so having someone you can shove into chokepoints but have come out alive is very helpful. This guy has every chance of returning to those kids...as long as you can keep him away from the fighters. Here's how the split is looking. We need more troops! This is why the armor is so good! These guys just don't really faze him, and he can hit back really hard! Aaron is by far the toughest guy here, he doesn't have that much to fear. ALL OF YOU WILL BREAK YOUR WEAPONS ON THE AMAZING ARMOR NO MATTER HOW MUCH EFFORT YOU PUT IN, IT WILL NOT MATTER MORE! My love: Don’t say anything. Let’s cherish these last moments. ?????: Excuse me. Soldier: I’m afraid so. You’re needed out there, soldier. Lady: May the four protect us all. My love: Dear, you need to evacuate with the rest of the townsfolk. Lady: I…I can’t stand this. But, I’ll go. Farewell. My love: ….. Let’s punish those fools. This one's a merc! You, know, these guys...they're all really generic. Very few of them are really packing any special equipment or stats. It's hard to try and care for these fools when none of them have anything special to their name! Come on... Yes! When not fighting lances, this fighter had accuracy problems. I would just like you to compare the enemy merc with my merc. This should tell you all you need to know about the chapter's difficulty. Aaron has little to fear, as I said. Sheesh, there's plenty of misses going around here! What's this? Thing 1: We appreciate that you stayed open for one more drink. But you’ve got to get out like the other folks! Portrait guy: Hogwash. I ain’t goin’ anywhere, lads. Thing 2: But, O’Riley— O’Riley: First Sybaris drives away all my customers. Now they’re trying ta burn the town down. No, I’ve had enough of this stinking war. It’s time for me ta do something about it. Thing 2: What are you gonna do, O’Riley? O’Riley: Before I ran this bar I was a brawler. Learned a lot about fightin’ and all that. It’s been a while since I last tussled. But my fire is lit and now I’m gonna fight. O’Riley: You lads with me? Thing 1: To the bitter end! Thing 2: Let’s show them what we’re made of! O’Riley: It’s time ta kick some ass! Our turn again. As you can see, these soldiers are the ONLY ones intelligent enough to get out there on their own! O'Riley is another recruitable character. He's much tougher than the generics, and we need him if we're gonna survive. Not sure what happens if you visit the bar before or after he's exited it, unfortunately. Also, his companions are nothing special. I pull Aaron back, we need those guys under our control ASAP! Hopefully, this setup will work out until I can get Aaron back on that front. ALL IN THE PATH OF THE IMPENETRABLE ARMOR SHALL FALL NEVER MIND And I miraculously avoid being poisoned with another miss! Man, the RNG likes me today. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN SOLDIERS AREN'T UNDER MY CONTROL Actually, never mind. Carry on. Well, on second thought...we do want this guy on our team. O’Riley: What is it, lad? There’s fightin’ ta be had, not chatter. Aaron: You’re the barkeep, right? O’Riley? O’Riley: That I am. I’ve had enough of these damn Sybaris whelps. I’ve been hearing word of attacks throughout Aksum. But now that they dare bring the battle here… It’s time ta pick up me old axe again. Aaron: You’ve got fighting experience, huh? Perfect. We need all the help we can get. By the way, my name’s Aaron. O’Riley: Well, Aaron, let’s nor waste anymore time. Let’s get ta fightin’! Everyone's recruited, and Aaron canto's back to support his men. The bottom front is looking pretty good! Well, I guess I'll cut it here. This chapter is crazy fun, I had a great time with it. First two-parter! This is definitely the longest chapter so far, despite being a ten-turn defense mission. There is just SO MUCH stuff going on... Also, for those wondering about my 100% completion: Normally I try to get everything, especially when I want to show all the dialogue, but this time I failed...I'll get all the red houses, but none of the yellow ones(hope there was nothing important in them!), and I will fail to get the short spear. Primefusion
Actually, never mind. Carry on. Motherfucking badass out of 10 That reminds me, I should probably make the Northwestern most red house more worthwhile...
HF Makalov Fanboy Kai
i loved taking control of generic soldiers, i honestly wished i could do this in more games/rom hacks
TheMoniker
Hello everyone, and welcome to... The Road to Ruin: Episode 6: Chapter 4x: Part 2: The RNG Rains Upon Me, and I am Accepting Quick reminder: We have about 8 dudes, and we just recruited O'Riley! Also, tons of enemies are attacking! Aaron has arrived! Get behind the line, generics! Let the big guy handle this! Another house, hurrah! This is the generic fighter, btw. Dang! I was hoping for another soldier...this really isn't that great. Oh well, I guess it could be helpful... THE MIGHTY ARMOR WILL CHALLENGE WEAK ENEMY ARMOR Nice, we again manage to avoid poison! ALL ACCORDING TO PLAN! He has an elixir, he'll be fine. MORE? Because this just WASN'T QUITE HARD ENOUGH. The past repeats itself. Man, the RNG loves me today. Yeeeaaaahhh! Let's bring in more carnage! NOTE: This will turn out to be a bad decision. Angry soldier: This is it. My time for vengeance has come. They killed my brother in battle 5 days ago. He was all I had since my folks died of illness. Then Sybaris stripped me of the last of my family. But now…Now I’ll return the favor in full. It's a myrm! And he has a special weapon! Unfortunately, this guy is kinda useless...his slim sword has no power at all, and his lancereaver takes away his dodging powers, and he has three defense, so that's all that's keeping him alive! You might be best trading his weapons to a merc. And now I realize why this was a bad idea. The mercenary is trapped on the house. LOOK AT HIS DAMAGE NUMBERS. He isn't leaving that spot anytime soon! He's basically doomed, how long can one be expected to dodge 65's? Sheesh, this usually goes the other way around! I guess it could be attributed to THE MIGHTY ARMOR, but still... Two misses. Balance has been restored. By O'Riley, no less. BUT FOR HOW LONG It looks pretty clear now...we should advance! This front doesn't have that much pressure on it... ELIXIR! Okay. I think the RNG is broken. This isn't how things are supposed to go! GAH! SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT! Ugh, that doesn't even rebalance things...oh well. Sorry guys, I couldn't keep everyone alive. That's just how it goes. The myrm can finally join his family. MORE? This front is really overextended... All those crits are catching up to O'Riley. The soldier has to pull back. Sorry merc, you're on your own! I see an opportunity...if I can just sneak the fighter into that house... Why didn't I show these earlier? Because the camera didn't scroll to them, of course! Dream of Five style difficulty! Did I mention they have special weapons? Okay, here's the plan. We just don't have the TIME for killing the dudes before getting to that house! The merc and archer will sacrifice themselves to let us make it. Uh, merc? You're not supposed to be alive anymore... ...Prime? Did you...do anything...to the RNG for this chapter? Well, this poor fighter is cornered! Hopefully the dude/thing in here will turn things around! Man: Fought brave and true against Sybaris. 5 days ago he was killed in battle. Man: I…can’t use it…but maybe you can. Please, take this axe and avenge my son. Keeping it will only bring me sorrow… A SUPER AXE? I guess it was just lucky that I visited it with a fighter! Come on, what are we gonna get? Uh...well, last I checked, that wasn't the most amazing...but it's something. Believe it or not, this is more important than it looks. O'Riley will get it in future chapters he appears in. Second to last house! We might have a chance to get that boss... Soldier: Hey you! Lazy soldier: Zzzz—Hngh, who?! What!? What’s happening? Soldier: There’s a battle going on, soldier. Let’s get moving! Lazy soldier: Well that was a rude awakening. Soldier: Let’s go! Lazy soldier: Alright, alright, I’m moving, I’m moving. WORST. SOLDIER. EVER. For being so close to the very front of the battle in a defense mission, this guy isn't exactly a game-changer! Still, I guess we can let him help. Aaron gets close to the house, and Aksum and Aksum sacrifice themselves to ensure his safety. The mercenary finally succumbs... Stillnotpoisonedtm Turns out the house merc wasn't quite ready to die. He's open...but we're too late. It's the last turn. We can't get the boss...pity. Well, might as well get this. Just ignore that still-living merc, he sacrificed himself in spirit. Special(?) soldier: My dad’s old sword! With this baby, overcoming thick armor will be a breeze! Well, the armorslayer is nice. Presumably, Prime intended it as you getting this guy, then using him to push down and help with killing the boss. But it doesn't work, because it just takes SO LONG to get here, that by the time this guy is deployed its too late to do anything. Even if I had gotten him 1-3 turns earlier, it wouldn't have changed much. GLITCH OMG KILL THE POISON I do get an opportunity to use the superweapon once. It does its job. ... I just deployed the guy! And you've already nearly killed him! This is the merc on the house. I guess he couldn't have lasted forever...but the irony was, he could have lived if he had just dodged 1-2 more times. Poor guy, I guess all that awesome takes its toll. And that's the end of the chapter! I'll actually show this cutscene next time. So, this was a crazy fun chapter. But I'd like to give some tactical advice. In this chapter, it's important to keep everyone in groups. If you don't you'll get picked off by the numerically-advantaged enemy one by one. I probably tried to split up my units too much because I wanted that house. What I should have done is just let Aaron help the bottom group push to the boss. Also, Prime, because I'm curious: What WAS in the yellow houses?
Primefusion
Man, that merc and his dodges. *Respectful salute* The yellow houses are like typical yellow houses: text only. Trying to reach the tavern/inn before O'Riley pops out yields only text as well.
TheMoniker
Man, that merc and his dodges. *Respectful salute* The yellow houses are like typical yellow houses: text only. Trying to reach the tavern/inn before O'Riley pops out yields only text as well. Okay, good to know. There were a few points where I could have used savestates to grab some of the yellow houses, but unfortunately, I didn't think of that at the time...oh well. Hello everyone, and welcome to... The CHAPTER 4x CONCLUSION! Resuming on the cutscene where we left off... Aaron: I don’t know how much longer I can fight… As he says this, more troops show up from the sides of the town... Aaron: How many troops do they have? We keep fighting but there’s no end to it. We need to turn the tides somehow… Suddenly, these dudes show up! Elisavior: Let’s show these Sybaris curs what we’re made of! Scripted battles! If you look in the background, you can see a fighter running by. As the dialogue goes on, some green troops rush offscreen. It's a pretty cool effect. Elisavior: Looks like I arrived just in time, corporal. Good job holding them back for so long. But this battle is far from over. Don’t get comfy! It appears the tides have re-turned... Elisavior: Sybaris came well prepared. This will likely be a very bloody battle. We’ve no choice but to keep fighting. Come! We press on! Fade to black...Man, how long could the battle last? HOURS? ... O'Riley and Aaron come down... Aaron: All the survivors are assembled here. Elisavior: One…three…just six of us left, huh? We defeated the enemy but the cost was great. May the fallen find peace… Wait, but that means...all the troops we saved died offscreen? Including THE INVINCIBLE ARMOR? Only three generics lived! Man... O’Riley: And may brighter days come ta the families left behind. Elisavior: You’re the bartender, right? I watched you fight and I’m impressed. O’Riley: I used ta be a brawler back in the day. I got in a lot of bar fights. Elisavior: What will you do now? The townsfolk have all evacuated to other cities. They likely won’t come back until this war ends. Not without a garrison to protect them at least. O’Riley: Since my job has been taken from me… I’ve got only one choice: Ta keep fighting. I’ll cut down those bastards that started this war. Then we can all try ta find some peace again. Elisavior: I see. We’d best get moving, then. Aaron: What will we do now, sir? Elisavior: We bury our own and make a pyre of the enemy. Then we make for the nearest fort. We’ll receive our next orders there. I’ve a feeling there is a long, bloody road ahead. I hope you two are ready. Aaron: I will meet any hardship head on. That was the vow I took when I was knighted. O’Riley: There’s nothing left for me here. Fighting for the motherland is all I can do. Elisavior: Then let’s try to win back peace for the motherland. For Aksum! Well, that's the end. 4x was a great, chapter, I wish more hacks would do things like that... Next time, we rejoin Vance and co as they discover "THE TRUTH".
