Klok Plays: FE8 ManRiklass Run

Ephraim or Eirika?

  1. 1. Which route should I take?

Recommended Posts

So I'm working on my reclass run of FE8, which I got from the "Monstrously Random Reclass" topic currently just below this one. I'll be taking opinions on preferred promotion paths for the characters I have so far, and I'm also interested to see what people think of the run in and of itself.

UPDATE

If my comment on the prologue video gets 10 or more thumbs up, I'll go ahead and release this romhack on SF when I'm done.

As of this post, two chapters are recorded and more are on the way! I have a playlist set up on my youtube, you can check it out here. If this topic gets posts in it, I will continue to update new chapters as I make them.

Also, Ephraim or Manrika route? Cast your votes!

Whoa. To be honest, I never imagined you having such a "regular guy" speaking voice.

It probably doesn't help that my character in Generic War was a nazi with a stupid german accent. But yeah, I'm fairly normal, aside from my terrible inability to remember names of characters and constant fucking up of terminology.

Also everyone seems to want zerker!lord path... and so do I >:D

Edit: Also, here is the doc I outlined for prime to make this reclass run. This way everyone can see the restrictions I have and how I decided to set this up.

Okay, so the idea is for my next LP (After FE7if) I want to do a RRR (Random Reclass Run) of FE8. The idea is that by using a random number generator, you change every characters class in the game to something else and thus change how the entire game plays. With FE8 it's even better because you get monster classes in the equation which can be completely hilarious. There are some rules though.

- Promoted classes reclass to other promoted classes, and unpromoted reclass to unpromoted classes only.

- If a character has a weapon level(s) then those transfer to the new class. For example if Eirika reclasses to a thief, her sword ranking transfers over.

- If the new class does not use the same weapon type as the old one (this happens alot) then just transfer the primary (and optionally the secondary) weapon level(s) to the new class. For example, if Seth has an A in lances and a B in swords and a D in axes, and he reclasses to sniper, he gets an A in bows as per this rule. If he reclasses to a Warrior, he gets a D in axes (same wlvls) and an A in bows. If he reclasses to a berserker, he gets an A in axes. (Best wlvl if there's only one available)

- I will provide you with a handy RNG generator that I've used in the past along with an unpromoted and promoted list of classes to pull from.

- If a character reclasses to a class that doesn't use any of the same weapons, go to their recruitment chapter and swap out their weapon for a weapon they can use. If, for example, Seth starts with a lance and he reclasses to a sniper, give him a bow.

- Additionally, make sure the new weapon corresponds similarly to the old one. If Seth's lance is a Silver type, give him a corresponding silver bow upon reclass.

- Aside from wlvls, do not change the characters stats. Upon reclass their stats will change due to class bases which can either be good or bad. (Gilliam as a thief could be very good or bad as an example)

So here's why I need you. I need this LP to be completely blind, both for my own amusement, and also because if it's blind my reactions will be genuine. I could do this in a day or two myself if I had to (I only ever nightmare edited so this is easy peasy) but the point is that I need you to do this for the sake of blindness. I won't be finished with FE7if for prolly another month so I think that would give you tons of time to work on this as well.

For promotions, leave all promotion items as-is, but if any characters become monster classes, make sure they can appropriately promote with ocean seals and the earth seals/master seals. If I have a shortfall of promotion items to character ratio that's fine and I don't mind it, just so long as every character actually CAN promote.

For soldiers, they need to promote to General or Paladin.

For brigands, they get Warrior or Berserker.

I'll be playing this with a savegame that has Tier three trainees unlocked so if one of the promoted units gets the T3 version of the trainees that's fine.

Also, assuming that one of the early characters happens to have the option of promoting to bishop, I ask that you buff monster enemy stats a bit. Just give them better growths so that using a bishop(s) actually becomes worthwhile for the effectiveness damage.

Assuming someone becomes a monster class using a PRF monster weapon, you should just randomize what weapon they get with the generator so that if they come with a strong/weak weapon it's left to randomization.

Possible issues:

If a certain reclass makes a character impossible to recruit (Ie too weak to fend off enemies or something so they die on the first turn) that's fine too. I can always edit the rom myself and make them just a tiny bit more durable if that happens during my LP.

If I don't have any thieves ever and can't get any chests, that's fine too. It just makes the game harder which I don't mind.

If you get any conflicting issues (Ex: Deciding what weapon to give a character or what wlvl is appropriate) just use the randomizer. I don't care if I get ten thieves or a bunch of clerics, as long as you randomize as much of this as possible.

Some people switch all the characters to generic pallettes, but just keep their pallettes the same. Sometimes the pallettes will look good, other times they'll be ugly. IMO it makes for humorous moments.

Aww, double post.

My commentary was a bit rushed due to a roommate circumstance, but I don't think it was too terrible :D

If there's no more posts in this topic by the time I record the next chapter I just won't bother updating on SF anymore.

L'Ar(a)cheL is an ArcheR. I really love this game even more...

Also, one thing I thought about... Due to where he appears, Cormag should stay a flying unit (Or pirate... I think he appears on mountain in Eirika's route, and in water in Ephraim's...). So he should be gargoyle, mogall, or pegasus knight... (assuming Manaketes are out of the reclass.)

(Yay ! I saved this topic !)

Worth noting that I only get one playable class for any given unit. There's only one myrm, one journeyman, one pegasus, etc in my entire playable roster. This further makes every character their own unique individual.

"Get the level up of your dreams!"

> HP every time

Too much, man. It's too much.

Also, those eye balls.

waiting for super squishy lute to cause so many resets

But that base speed...

I glimpsed Cormag in a cutscene on chapter 5 (Edited the spoiler out) and he was not a flier. Or a brigand. Uh, maybe prime moved his starting position?

Oh... Good then. More surprises is great.

Neimi ending up as some of my favorite monsters seems to be a trend. <3

Is it such a crime that Eirika dreams of HP only level ups? Who are you to deny her her dream!?

Yes! She's so terrible sometimes, she deserves the shaft! If you know what I mean.

If this is popular enough, I wouldn't mind doing another actually randomized run. I originally wanted that, as seen by the doc in my second or third post. Prime got a bit lazy and just used the jumble list function

If I hadn't been lazy you probably would have gotten something boring like Mage!Eirika. And seeing like 6 of the same class is kinda lame to me.

Besides, you do end up with a few duplicates (Ross is a shaman, Seta a druid. Moulder a Bonewalker, Dozla a Wight like we saw in Ch 4).
