Forum Rules

Welcome to the Creative forum of Serenes Forest! The purpose of this forum is to provide members with a place to express themselves visually. Whether you're into drawing, painting, computer graphics, photography, spriting or otherwise, feel free to post your art here for comments, critique and praise. Open discussion on styles, techniques, artists, etcetera are also accepted, and encouraged.

If you are a writer, please visit the Written Works subforum and it's respective Feedback board. If you have any questions or concerns regarding either of these boards, please contact Shuuda.

Posting:

  • Feel free to post whatever you like in terms of subject matter, so long as it is forum appropriate. (If you need a reminder, visit the Forbidden Content paragraph of the general rules page.) It's not required that posts pertain to Fire Emblem.
  • Due to the nature of the Creative section, there is no necroposting rule for artists. If you need to revive or update your thread, go for it. If you want to leave commentary on a thread that is no longer active, consider PMing the artist instead of bumping the thread.
  • Artists are entitled to one active thread at a time for posting their work. This is partially to keep the forum organized, and partially to prevent members from making multiple threads each time they want to share a new piece. If you'd like to fill requests for other members by making custom sprites, artwork, and graphics, a new thread is permissible.
  • Regarding Hentai/Pornographic Images/Offensive Images/Artistic Nudity: Images and/or links of this nature are inappropriate for Serenes Forest and are strictly not allowed. No exceptions. If you have a concern, please check with me first before posting.
  • Regarding Plagiarism: Plagiarism, the act of stealing, copying or failing to credit another artist's work, is strictly prohibited, whether the entire image or parts of it were used without permission. Please make sure to give credit where credit is due. Report plagiarism to me or another staff member, preferably with information regarding the stolen image such as a link to the original or a way for us to contact the artist.
  • Commissions and Sales: If you would like to sell your artwork, provide commissions/commission an artist, please do so off-site. Serenes Forest is a message board, not a place to do business. We will not be held responsible in any way for fraudulent transactions or information theft.

    Etiquette:

  • Be polite and mature when posting comments and/or critical critiques. Bashing and/or outright rude behavior is not allowed.
  • Artists, please be aware that if you post artwork, sprites or graphics in this forum, they are on display and up for critique. Please be respectful of those who have taken their time to offer you suggestions and tips. If you have a problem excepting commentary from others in a mature fashion, or do not want critique, please consider posting your art elsewhere.
  • Put some thought into your replies before responding to a posted artwork-- mention what you like or don't like about the piece and offer up some suggestions for improvement. Posts like "Wow! Great!" or "Hmm... Could be better..." are pointless and add virtually no value to the discussion or the artwork in question. Think before you post.

This thread will remain open for questions and discussions so please don't hesitate to post if you have a concern. Also-- feel free to drop suggestions for the board here.

I have a question?

If we make a creative idea other than a game idea, like say if some of them wanted to make a creative idea for an Animation Adaption Idea from a FE game, make a Film Idea from a FE game, make a Comic/Manga Idea from a FE game, or other ideas, will they put it in the Written Works folder or which folder can we use?

I would think the main Creative area would probably be the best location as a general guideline, but, realistically, it would likely be on an individual basis (i.e. if it's writing a film script based off of an FE game, Written Works would be best, etc.).

The thread zie speaks of can be discovered in General FE, however it is buried on page 6, and hath been deceased for several months. Thou wold be better off starting a new thread.

Okay explain this to me.

Rules say no porn.

M rated fic written by a friend of mine, has sex but not graphic smutty stuff.

People post in it saying "this isn't M rated" "smut plz"

What's wrong with this picture?

...Maybe curiosity is about to kill the dragoncat -_-

I explained why my fic has an M rating. A mod did that because they felt it should be rated as such when I first posted it. Why is this a big deal to everyone all of a sudden? :P

I just found it odd. Smut isnt allowed here, right? Whether they were asking for it or not...

EDIT - Ninjad. Okay, well if a mod said so...

Is it OK to post my art that has prices on the image? I'm opening up a Storenvy soon and would like some exposure.

Should general discussions about a member's fanart/fanfic/etc ideas, or discussions of a particular art of writing/drawing (as opposed to actually displaying work) be posted on the Creative general page?

To paraphrase it another way: For example, Bulbagarden has a Written Word thread group that allows us to "discuss the art of writing, give tips to writers who need a hand, and receive help from others", to use their words. Do stuff like that go on the Creative general page or elsewhere?

If you're asking about having a thread where artists go to ask for tips on certain things or something in general, then that can go in the Creative section, sure. Otherwise critique and such is fine in a specific user's art thread unless they've asked not to receive criticism/tips for whatever reason. WW itself has a feedback section so that goes without saying.

Looks like I've got another question:

I've got a really big fictional map that I am continuously working on since April this year, and will likely take at least another half a year or so. Am I allowed to post regular updates of my working map? (It's actually an entire nation map consisting of the first four Pokémon regions, and a couple of extra regions.)

I am trying to find fan-made art of a specific Fire Emblem character, and I have only found 1 or 2 after scouring the internet, deviant Art, and other artistic fan sites. I was wondering if it would be appropriate to create a topic requesting fan art in the creative forum. (My intentions are purely non-profit and are not intended as a contest of any kind) It could be art that someone finds or art that someone works on diligently to show to the community(and show how well they can express their creativity).

Long story short, is it wrong to make a topic requesting fan-made art of a certain category? If not, what section of forum would the topic be appropriate for?

This is basically a longer version of GothicGamer's question. Sorry about that.

I can't speak for the mods on whether you can make a designated thread for requests, but I know several artists here take requests and/or commissions, so you could try looking at some of the more active artists here, to see if they'd create for you. As long as you're polite, it doesn't hurt to ask. The worst they can say is no.

Right! Thank you very much. Are there any artists you'd recommend?

Really, I'd just look at the art threads here that have been active the last few weeks and see which styles you like, then see if they take requests or commissions.

Question: are artists allowed any leeway for double posting in their own threads?

Yes, I've done it several times.  If you're posting something new, it's allowed as far as I've seen.
