Agro Posted April 25, 2014 Share Posted April 25, 2014 (edited) This is kind of random (but maybe not so random) but I'm currently looking for someone who might be willing to give me a hand in creating (as in drawing) a world map for my hack, Eternal Bond (link in sig). It's progressing rather slowly but one of the reasons I had to do a rewrite was because I found out that I could do custom world map events.With that in mind, I need to actually make a custom world map now. Since I'm not artist I haven't the foggiest idea where to start, but I have a rough map drawn out which could serve as a foundation for it. As far as I'm aware the end-product would need to be 16 colours (don't worry, dithering will be used) and 640x480--of course, a high resolution image scaled down would probably be ideal. The catch is that since the writing is nowhere near finished I would need access to any source files (e.g. .psd if done in Photoshop) so that I can change areas and names as needed OR you gotta be willing to help me change stuff as time goes on. Not to sound like an ass, but if you can show me that you're good, I'm willing to pay commission (to be discussed privately) on this.So endeth the worst pitch ever. So, how about it, guys? Primefusion Posted April 25, 2014 Share Posted April 25, 2014 Just do what I did and wing it. There's a really cool tool out there called AutoREALM where you can create your own fantasy maps. Despite the name it doesn't automatically generate a random map but gives you a ton of tools and options to make just about whatever you want from a hex grid to a very detailed world. I ended up creating a base and then coloring it in Paint. Took me about 5 or 6 days but I like what I came up with and had a lot of fun making it. Do you have any examples of your other work, though? I've actually never done this before. Just PM me your rough map, and I'll tell you what I think. The main thing is that it should look somewhat continuous, unlike Jugdral with all its gulfs and penninsulas. I can even simulate continental drift, if you want. Can probably certainly downscale so a full continent can fit in, and add more ridge detail/consistency than what's going on right now.
