Ch-Cha! Chapter 2 is complete!

arrayc.png

I think I have too many screenshots

So the group arrives in the village, just so happens to be named Kakariko. Some bandits show up and try to attack the gaurdless village. When Isaac challenges the bandits the leader Seed runs away. Second in command, Darren, takes charge. Marle (Chrono Trigger) and Gatrie (FE9-10) come out of an Inn and join the battle. Marle and Isaac converse and she joins his group, and then proceeds to tell Gatrie to join. After the battle, Darren tells Isaac to meet him in an Renais village to prepare for an attack on Seed's base. Marle tells Isaac that she needs to deliver a package to Ephraim so she and Gatrie join Isaac's party in their travel to Renais.

I've had a few beta-testers but I could use one or two more for these first 3 chapters, if anyone is interested let me know. This is the last time I ask this at this point

My original plan was to go up to chapter 5 from here, but I've realized how much better my spriting skills are now (compared mostly to that Isaac mug)

So I'll put up a poll, should I continue with what I have til chapter 5 and put up a Demo Patch, or should I fix all of the sprites I have now and really smooth out all of the issues and then progress from there

Don't ruin it by going back and stalling on old content. go forward until you believe you're content with your direction, then you can go back. Are you going to stop writing your thoughts just because you had an improper punctuation or a bad misspelling? Lose your momentum, interest, or desire in the process--no, it's better to get what you want out, so that you can see everything you've gotten done, then go back and edit where need-be.

I'm not sure what some fans seem to think, but most game development is not concentrative on getting every last element of the first "thing" done before moving on to the next. Polishing is reserved as an after-phase, not during.

I see your point which is why I was gonna do that in the first place. I'm not stoping because half of the posts in this thread are about how awful my mugs are (which I have been fully aware of since I started this project)

I just want to see what public opinion is I guess.

I agree. Don't use this as a reason to stop. This is the kind of thing to do either as an immediately-before-release thing or as a re-motivating project while you're slowed down anyway.

@Cam and Celice: Yeah I understand, I'll probably just take down the poll and move foreword from where I'm at. Thanks to the both of you.

One issue I have with the story line is there is the main lord, Isaac, from Golden Sun. All is well, but here is the issue. I wanted to include characters from the game Lost Magic, if anyone has heard of it, and the main character from that is also named Isaac. So should I just not care and have two characters named Isaac, cut the other one from the game or try to differentiate the spelling (i.e. Spell the other one Isaak just to avoid confusion)

If anything, having two Isaac's could lead to some humor opportunities/character interaction. It's not that uncommon a name to warrant changing it, especially since this game looks to be about including characters as they are from other series.

So I realized that I needed to work on the back story way more and write it down, include everyone in the cast and plan at least why everyone is there and what everyone's relation is.

So I made this back story timeline.

Fire Emblem: Dimensional Rift

Time line

The Hero's throught the Dimensons defeat their respective enemies

The Cross-Dimensional Continent is formed in the middle of an ocean

Ephraim of Renais, Hector of Ostia, Ike of Crimea, Crono and Frog of Gaurdia, Link of Hyrule,

The Bishop of the White Night Ruselle, and Zero are sucked into Dimensional Rifts from their homes

and wake up on the Cross-Dimensional Continent. They find themselves alone, battling creatures.

Knights and Mercenaries appear through the rifts. Zelda, Marle and Ruselle's son Isaac are sucked through rifts.

Ephraim finds Riku passed out in the woods. Establishments and land marks appear through rifts.

Ephraim recruits knights to live in Castle Renais. Similar actions are taken with the rest

Zero heads far west to the deserts based on a strange feeling. Civilians get sucked through rifts.

A dark shade falls upon a land mass to the east. Hyrule Kingdom is established under King Link and Queen Zelda

Communication is established between Ephraim, Link, Hector, Crono, Ruselle and Ike. Ephraim finds Isaac asleep in the Renais Castle Courtyard.

The Kingdom of Ostia is established to the mid west under King Hector. Isaac joins Riku as one of Ephraims combat apprentacises.

Ruselle establishes an oasis of magic to the far north. Shinnon, Gatrie, Marcia, Ranulf and Sothe are sucked through rifts and appear in the fort Ike is staying.

Ike establishes Greil, a mercenary republic to the south. Bandits appear from rifts is droves.

Ephraim establishes Renais, in the middle of the continent. Member's of the Arcadia Dragoons from Termina appear through rifts.

Karsh becomes a Hyrulian Officer with fellow Dragoon under his control. Zero contacts the rest of the original warriors.

Zero establishes a Mercenary base in the middle of the desert with RayMkI. Haar is sucked through a rift.

Haar becomes the top General in the Renais army. Zappa appears through a rift.

After a brief reunion with is father, Karsh says goodbye to Zappa as he leads his troop into the shade of the east.

Karsh's troop is never heard from after months. Rescues troops are sent to find them and they too, fail to return.

All troops sent into the shade are presumed dead. As the creatures start dying off the prescense of bandits increases.

A large influx of civillians appear through rifts, a large portion in the desert Serge and Leena appear in Greil, Glen appears in Hyrule.

All remaining monsters move to the desert. All of the civillians move into the fort created by Zero. Zero and RayMkI take down the monsters alone.

Wil appears in Castle Ostia, immediatly remembering Hector. Days later Wil is high up in the Ostian Army Ranks.

Joshua and Cormag wake up in the mountains of Renais. The two hike for a day before Cormags wyvern finds them and brings them down.

Joshua and Cormag find Ephraim and are inducted into the Renais army.

Sora wakes up in Gaurdia. Gatrie leaves Greil and heads off to Gaurdia alone. Jenna wakes up deep in the woods of Hyrule.

Upon trying to find her way out, Jenna finds Laura passed out. The two continue to travel through the woods.

Suddenly, many of the warriors start to look like their younger selves and become significantly weaker. Sheik is sucked through a rift.

Sheik finds Jenna and Laura and escort them out of the woods.

Sheik enters Hyrule castle and is confused as to his is acting as Zelda in her stead.

After months of magical studies, scholars declare that rifts have traveled through time as well, causing a fusion in link, and split in Zelda and Sheik.

Garret and Mia are sucked through a rift. Garret wakes up in Gaurdia, Mia wakes up in the Northern Oasis.

Donald is found sleeping in a tree in the Northen Oasis by Isaac and is welcomed into the community.

Two Impa's appear through a rift in a castle Hyrule and fuse into one, giving a reason as to why everyone is looking and feeling younger.

The number of monsters in the west grows. Zero and RayMkI are getting pounded. Sora joins the defenses to help push them back.

Ewan awakes in Donald's tent in the Northern Oasis. Ruselle takes him in as a pupil.

The monsters stage a final all out assault on Zero's base. After hours of fighting, Zero leaves RayMkI and Sora to take on a Giant Cyclops. The cyclops almost

defeats Zero but in the last moment possible, the Cyclops is killed by Felix, who has been roaming the desert for quite some time.

With the monsters defeated, Zero's base expands into a larger colony. It is named ZX, in a memory to an old friend.

Ruselle holds a celebration for Ewan as to pass into a full on mage.

Ewan heard of Renais and Ephraim and tells Ruselle he must go there because he knows the people. An escort goes with, including Donald.

Word is heard from Zero for the first time in almost a year. There is reported activity outside the shade.

A much older Geitz lands on the Cross-Dimensional Continent to the unexplored north east with a band of pirates.

A rift opens and a younger Geitz comes through, fusing with the older one, weaking his physical skills but rejuvinating his energy.

A large rift opens in the north west, destroying Geitz's ship and killing most of his fellow pirates. A large source of power came through but it is unknown.

Geitz and his small troop of men travel east and enter the Northern Oasis. Dart tells the men to hold while he tries to talk, but they ignore and attack. The remaining men in his troop die and Geitz flees south on his own.

Geitz collapses at the stairs of Castle Hyrule. When he comes to he describes his story to Zelda, who tells him of Hector at Ostia. Without waiting for a meeting with Link, he runs off to Ostia.

Hector and Wil remember Geitz and welcome him to the Ostian Army. More reports of activity outside the shade.

Battalions emerge from the shade and attack far villages of Hyrule, Renais and Gaurdia.

Isaac and Riku are sent to deliver a letter to King Link, unknowing of the prescense of danger.

Marle departs for Renais with an urgent message. Isaac has a message from Ruselle to deliver to Ephraim.

Troops from the shade call themselves "Twilights." Twilight forces reach and assault Fort Vale.

Let me know if anything on here doesn't make sense or if there is detail I might have left out.

EDIT: Or if any characters seem to be doing something against their personality.

Bumping this thread!!

So I have been working on this a wee bit in the past few weeks, I got swamped with some other stuff, but I did do a few revamps with some friends for some of the mugs. So I figure I'll share them here just because of how many people tell me how bad my mugs are.

New Issac, Jenna and Zappa.

Super quadruple posts.

So I got this idea I was wondering if it is at all unconventional in hacks.

I thought to set it so if any playable character dies, you get a game over, for a few reasons.

1. Make more of a reason not to let anyone die (not that that would really happen anyway)

2. Mainly to build more character depth and involvement. For example, instead of Zappa just being involved in chapter 1, he would have more appearances throughout the game and every character would have some sort of value to the plot.

So is this a good idea or is this something that shouldn't be done?

Just do what Ray (MK404) did and have it so they "retreat" when they die in game. That way you can still have character depth and it doesn't piss off the people who simply don't give a fuck if a particular character dies.

Or have them die, but then have a bunch of if character is dead conditions to check if they die then exclude them from the story

This is much more work though, so if you go with the retreat option I wouldn't really mind it anyway

Although it would be a whole lot more efficient I must say I'm far to lazy to try that and I prefer to have them involved either way. I'm not really sure why I didn't think of that jubby, thank you!

I don't think Astra's way is necessarily more efficient, but it would be waay more in-depth :P I am also lazy, though. xD And it's MK404 you should be thanking, I got the idea from him :3

Also, if you wanna give more incentive to keep the characters alive, just have talk events like Arch does and such. Or an if character is dead event being false, give them an item or something.

The fact that Do5 uses this is the easiest way to tell that the coder and writer are different people
