And pester he did, dragging her away from her conversation and getting her to round everyone up. They had spoken long enough in that fort, and comfort awaited them. So they all trekked back to the town, another three hour journey, and everyone found themselves back at the same inn as before. The evening was upon then all, and with relaxation in mind, Makin found herself monopolizing the only couch in the foyer, sprawling her tail out over it whilst leaning against some cushions.

Ingverd and Vriska found separate tables and both started doing what they normally would. She read and he fiddled with his sword.

"You're all welcome to do whatever for the rest of the day, even if there isn't much of it left. We'll leave tomorrow, for Felson. Any questions, feel free to pose them. Not sure I want to do much other than talk, for a while." Makin let her head fall back and sighed a bit, happy to have some form of cushion underneath her. Marty wasn't too keen on people abusing his foyer, but they were paying customers, so he didn't say anything.

Meanwhile, Makin put herself into some though. Markus will probably be by soon. Not sure I want to deal with all of his questions, as he'll probably have far too many. She sighed again.

Chuckling as he came in, Kendeall plopped his tome on top of Makin's head. "You wanted to learn how to use tomes, right? Give that a try. I've got the cash for another." The axeman said as he ordered a beer for him and the aforementioned Naga. "And just to dull the pain in your aching tail, I suspect you'll want a bit of refreshment... so, I'll treat you. But only you, since the others'll bleed my wallet dry." That wasn't true for the most part; he had ample funds to buy everyone in the group a round. But aside from Angus and Makin, he hadn't really been too chatty with any of the group, and he didn't really desire to see them drunk before he got to know them sober.

"Fe-- Felson? I..." Kadin shook his head. At the mention of it, the picture of the crest was filling his mind. He couldn't get rid of it. The dragon and the star, burned in his memory. Revenge. He needed to get revenge. Felson and revenge. "I... yes. Good. Felson." He clenched his hands into fists and stared at the ground, doing his best to gain control over his thoughts.

Magical Girls (?)

"Ack!" was the only verbal response that Kendeall received from Makin until she pulled the book off of her head --somehow without dropping it-- and rest it on her lap. She looked at it, and wondered, can I actually use this? I don't know... But she quickly put that thought away and took the drink, wondering why he was being so kind. "Just me? Looking for special treatment from your boss? A few drinks isn't going to get you that..." She smirked. It was at least a pleasant gesture, as she drank some of it. "So, what's on your mind, Kendeall? That little magic talk at the fort got you interested in speaking to a snake?"

Vriska remarked Kadin's reaction to Felson, but quickly diverted her gaze back to her book. She didn't feel like she was in any position to pry into his mind, especially when he, himself, didn't exactly know what was going on.

Kendeall laughed as he took another drink. "Actually, it's because you're the only one here who I'd actually want to get drunk for any reason. As for the magic, I figure if you bug Vriska enough, she'll give you some pointers... I've actually always wanted to see a fire-breathing Naga." He replied, as he felt on his belt for the Tabar that Sonia gave him before.

The Drink

"Well... That's worrying," she said with another small smirk. It didn't bother her much, and if he kept drinking with her, he'd certainly pass out before she got to any noticeable levels of drunk. "Enough about the magic," she groaned as Vriska was brought up, "just talk to me about anything else. I know that if I try to get into it it'll be a lot of reading on my end, and I don't want to think about heavy anything right now. Fill my ears with something mundane and easy to talk about, if you can." She closed her eyes and kept drinking, putting the already finished mug on the floor. "If not, just entertain me with your life story, or something. Outside of your lovey dovey magical girl, I already know about her."

"Huh!" Valha chimed in quietly, glaring at Makin for taking up the whole couch that had looked extremely inviting upon her return to the inn. She had planned to do the same, of course, by using her wingspan, but that was not the point! She furrowed her brow a bit, before putting the heavier two swords with her down and sitting in a chair much less comfortable than the couch or throne she had lounged upon earlier. She sniffed at her feathers and cleaned them a bit before looking to Makin. "Boss! Is there some sorta bath near here? I wanna look a bit better before goin' anywhere, even if it is just Felson agin. There's some stuff in my wings I'm too tired to get at right now, 'n I don't wanna bother goin' near the river again, it's so late."

Having been tired even before they'd begun trekking back to Ward, Lanos was extremely tired now and as such had a hard time maneuvering his way through the inn, nearly tripping over his own feet and chairs alike. Flying up to his room had actually been seriously considered given his tired state, but Lanos was still capable of some common sense. He figured that, other than surprising or scaring the vast majority of the people in the inn by suddenly taking flight, he probably wouldn't have the energy to make it to his room if he tried to fly there. Spying Ingverd at a nearby table, nearby as in closer than the stairs at least, Lanos made his way over to the elf, falling more than sitting on one of the chairs. "Why?" was all he asked before resting his head on the table, willing to sleep right there if he couldn't muster up enough energy to climb up the stairs.

They've returned to the inn alright. Or at least it looked like the inn. Maja couldn't process anymore. Her mind was kind of strained from stubbornly healing person after person until all the group's wounds were taken care of. As somebody whom certainly didn't get the usual training and resilience mages do, Maja was exhausted and looked exhausted.

When Makin hastily laid claim to the amazingly comfortable-looking couch, Maja couldn't help but blankly stare for a moderate while. Coooouch...

Having nowhere else to turn, Maja went to a chair. For some reason, she kneeled and rested her head on the chair, instead of sitting like a normal person. From the corner of her eye, she spied Kadin, she couldn't tell what he was looking like exactly, but he seemed tired too. She'd love to talk to him or anybody, but her head was straining and taking all of her thought process away.

Birds

"Eh? Bath? Should be one upstairs. Marty, did you change the water?" she asked the tired innkeeper.

"Few minutes ago, actually..." He'd been hoping to use it himself, but he was always second to the patrons.

"There you go. Have at your bird bath." Makin chuckled. "Meanwhile, I will continue to monopolize this lovely upholstery and feel no shame at all over it." She wiggled herself into the cushions more, getting the most comfortable.

Rivalry

"Why?" Ingverd laughed. That was a pretty good reaction. "Why not? Wouldn't be very fair for you if I walked in and snatched up the girl you like without you having a fair chance, eh? I mean, it's not a game, and she's not a prize, but let's not have any regrets left on your end. No "I should've said something"s." Ingverd held his smile before coming to a stunning realization. "You...were talking about earlier, yes? I hope you were. Would be rather awkward if you weren't. And if so, perhaps expound on the why. I doubt you'll be satisfied with what I just gave you."

That's Not Right

Vriska watched as Maja simply collapsed onto a chair, opening her mouth to say something, before shutting it again, looking around to see if anyone else had noticed. As no one had seemed to have done, she simply called out a "miss!" to Maja, hoping that would at least alert the woman to her situation.

Maja rose her head slightly, she at least picked up that somebody was addressing her. Turning to the mage girl, she lightly rose her head and... just looked at her, unsure of what to respond. She waved at the girl and collapsed onto the chair again, arms leaning and hiding her head this time, thinking hurt and making sense was too much effort. "Help..." She spoke in a muffled voice.

Lanos smiled, not that Ingverd could see it as his head was currently facing away from the elf. He let smile fade as he raised himself into a sitting position, not that hard given how tired he was, and after a quick shake of his head he turned to Ingverd. "I actually meant 'why am I so tired'," Lanos explained, keeping his straight face. "But I mean if you're so eager to talk about it, I'll oblige you; though, it makes you appear to have a one-track mind." It was at this point Lanos' smile could no longer be repressed and a stupid looking grin appeared on his face. He shook his head a few more times to get rid of it.

"Sorry, about that. You were actually spot on. I must be more tired than I thought if I'm trying to play jokes." Lanos sighed. "Well, you don't exactly seem like the kind of person who'd 'play fair' if you know what I mean. It just seems... out of character for you to be so upstanding about it. Unless... you want competition?" Whether or not if that's the reason, I'm sure that'll be what I believe after a good night's sleep and I start thinking clearly again.

Somehow, despite all the noise and his own conversation with Ingverd, Lanos overheard mention of a bath. He made a mental note to check it out once Valha was done. He, too, wanted to clean himself after everything that had happened earlier in the day. A simple preening was simply not going to cut it.

As Joel returned from the stables, trying to process the day's events, he noticed the healer kneeling face-down on a particularly comfortable looking chair. Praying, presumably. There wasn't much to choose from in the way of furniture, and she wasn't actually using it, so he moved up and gripped the backrest. "Excuse me, miss. Would you mind terribly if I took this chair?"

Maja slowly turned her head to another voice that seemed to be adressing her. With her mind only half present it took her a while to process, but it seemed he wanted the chair. Aww.

She tried to stand up, not very willing, but ended up leaving the chair by lifting herself brusquely in one go. Unfortunately, Maja felt dizzy and weary enough to fall on her butt after that event. "Sorry..." She reacted, rubbing her forehead with one hand while trying to lift herself from the ground unsuccessfully. "Just, tired..." She was embarassed to admit, but she really didn't know how to handle her mental exhaustion.

Kendeall snickered again. "That was a hell of a dirty trick, boss. Then again, so's throwing your whole tail onto that couch like that... Good thing you're my boss, or I'd have to dump you off so you'd learn to share the comfort." He laughed out as he went back to what something else. "You know, I've always been curious about that guy Charlie - you know, the one who left before? I kinda wonder what happened to the guy that made him so... well, timid and whatnot. Anything you got, lay it on me." He added, also muttering under his breath about how the girl from his past was NOT his girlfriend.

"Okay, good to know. Thank you," Valha replied cheerily, waving at the innkeeper. She ascended the stairs, finding the bath fairly easily and quickly cleansing her self in a meticulous, thorough manner. She cringed at seeing some of the scars left from battle, particularly those on her wing- though Maja's healing eased the pain significantly, they were still unpleasant to look at. I should be proud of these. They show I'm better. If I can survive a blade forged to kill my kind, anythin' else must be some sorta joke in comparison, right? A weaker harpy would've died then 'n there. Still, a broken wing doesn't impress anyone, 'n I was nearly off far worse than that so easily. She frowned slightly, biting her lip as she looked over her wing intently. I don't know. I don't know... Worry is a sign of weakness... but I am strong, right?

Sighing, she completed the rest of her bath thoughtlessly, then rinsed her clothes as well before realizing her obvious predicament upon doing so. "Ahh... dammit!" She was immensely frustrated as she put on the wet clothes, embarrassed when she returned downstairs to her surprisingly unoccupied chair. "Maybe it's time for new clothes anyway..."

Watching Maja trying to lift herself off the ground, Joel frowned. It had been a long walk, but this level of fatigue couldn't have been caused by just that. He hoped she wasn't coming down with anything. He knelt down beside her. "Sorry about this. Hup!" Grabbing her under the armpits, she lifted her up and dropped her awkwardly on the chair. He groaned and rubbed his back a little. I'm not as fit as I used to be. "Gather your strength there for a moment. Do you want anything?"

Couch Space

Trick? Did he mean about the bath? Makin shrugged it off, turning to his comment about couch space. "If anyone touches the tail it will end poorly for them. This couch is mine until I feel like crawling off of it and onto a bed. If anyone gets to share it'll be who I choose." She stuck her nose up, but threw that act away when Kendeall asked about Charlie. "The poor guy. I really liked Charlie, I did. He was so honest and kind to literally everyone. He even felt bad about us killing those monsters, because they were once people. Bless his soul. As for what made him timid, well, he was already like that to begin with. Not that bad, but..."

Makin made a sour face, looking back over at Kendeall. "He was the bait to lure Gerrod to his death, and...it worked." She sighed. "If you were the reason your boss --and not just your boss, but one of your best friends, one you'd known for the longest time-- if you were part of the reason they died, how would you feel about all this fighting?" Her question was rhetorical, so she didn't give Kendeall time to answer. "Anyway, that's his deal. And good to hear," she said at his mumbled comment, picking it up easily with her hearing, "that means you're free for the rest of us."

Competition

Ingverd made an awkward face until Lanos said that he'd been spot on, releasing a sigh of thankfulness. "Lanos, a dagger. Wouldn't play fair? Goodness! I may be a bit of a philanderer, but the last thing I want is a relationship I had to cheat for." He shook his head at the harpy and gave him a brief smile. "I've had plenty of regrets in my life. I may not be that much older than you, but I'm old enough to be able to go 'If I could relive that specific memory, I would've done it differently.' I know you'd regret it if you said nothing, and I'd rather not have more people go through things they'll regret." He coughed. "Besides, if I didn't speak up we both know you'd've had no chance anyway..." the last line was thrown out very quickly and hushed, as he hoped Lanos wouldn't pick up on it too much. Still, he smirked.

The sight of a soaked harpy made that smirk far wider. "Hey, Valha! Looking lovely there. I figure you found the bath." He reluctantly held a laugh in, wondering if she was in any mood for jokes. If not, dropping the smile would be easy enough. "At least you know how I felt at the river, eh? Though... I'm not sure you deserved this as I had."

Help

Vriska was going to, at least, drag Maja into a chair, before Joel did what she'd been planning. She sat herself back down and went back to reading, almost disappointed that she didn't get to help. Almost.

"Uh... sorry" Maja replied, thanfully being lifted to rest on the chair. "Just... used too much magic." She said after a small pause, at least she was in a resting position. "Something... to drink, would be nice. Water, milk, anything." She said, a small sigh as she closed her eyes and tried to rest her mind.

After ordering a glass of milk and a beer, Joel found a tray and an unoccupied chair at the other end of the inn, and carefully carried his load back. Handing the drink over, he then sat down and quietly nursed his own. After about a minute, he spoke up. "So magic takes that much out of you? I always thought you just waved the stick around and it did the rest." Joel was the first to admit he knew absolutely nothing about magic.

Maja takes the glass of milk and happily drinks it. A sigh of relief as she tries to relax some more. "Well, most of the time it is supposed to be as easy as that, with some focus... I guess I just pushed my limits." Maja embarassedly admits. "It always takes focus... you can't just keep using magic forever." She sighs and takes another sip from her glass of milk, catching some more breath while at it. "I definitely never used it for so long before, so I wasn't ready to get this tired. My mind is... pretty hard to stay on one thing right now."

"I suppose the mental strain may be no different to the physical strain of swinging a weapon..." Joel glanced over to confirm the couch was still occupied. "Anyway, the best thing to do would be to take it easy tonight. Do you need to lie down? If it is serious, you might move the boss enough to make her move."

"Yeah, I did," she spoke quietly, curling up into a ball and shivering. "Ugh... I just wanted to clean up a little and this had to happen. Today hasn't been too nice to me, huh?" Valha glanced by Makin once again. "Boss, you sure you really need that whole thing? Looks pretty comfy 'n surely you could fit one more if you moved just a bit..." she asked in an almost-pleading tone.

Pity

Makin hissed, but slowly uncurled her tail from the couch, taking up one of the ends of it and rather dejectedly leaning her head onto her hand, propping her arm up on the couch's arm. "Fine, but get Maja over here first. Whatever happened to your clothes was probably your own fault, but I can't stand watching her fall onto any more chairs. It's rather sad." She flicked the end of her tail, slightly annoyed that she'd had to give up her couch, but the plight of their poor healer had been too much to continue watching. Valha had probably washed her clothes without thinking.

Late Night Shop

"Valha, I realize it's fairly late, but I've got some coin and I know a few clothes stores in Ward," Ingverd chimed in. "If you want, I could escort you to new clothes. You'd even get to pick! Fancy that." Ingverd was a bit bothered by the sight of her shivering in wet clothes, and what was pocket change in exchange for comfort? New clothes couldn't be that expensive, surely...

That's what you say at least. Time will tell the greater truth, Lanos thought to himself. Whether it was his inherent distrust or if he actually thought Ingverd was not trustworthy he didn't know. Lanos sighed. "You're not the only one with regrets, I've got plenty of those myself. One more wouldn't be that much of an accomplishment." For a brief moment a frown appeared on his face, though it disappeared just as fast. That's not a conversation for today. Lanos caught Ingverd's final comment and smirked. "Aren't you the cocky one. Just cause you've gotten her flustered a few times don't think you're years ahead of me."

Lanos sighed to himself as Valha came downstairs, her clothes freshly wet. He was tempted to make a joke about falling into the bath but he held it back. I really need to sleep soon. With that thought in mind Lanos stood up from the table and walked to his room, but not before whispering "one track mind" to Ingverd. He quickly grabbed his spare shirt and pair of pants and exited the room as fast as possible lest he be tempted to sleep by the bed. As Lanos passed by the stairs, spare clothes now in hand, he noticed Valha had started shivering. "Hey Valha," he called out, "I know Ingverd promised to buy you new clothes but do you want these in the meantime? Just so you don't freeze by the time you get new ones."
