FE3 or FE4?

I'm pretty interested in playing Mystery of the Emblem and Genealogy of the Holy War, though I'm not sure which one to go for...

I'm not a veteran of the series, and I wouldn't call myself "good" (probably decent at best). I've only played Awakening and a bit of the GBA titles.

I want to play FE3 because I heard it was the best selling FE game, and playing a game with Marth as the main Lord would be pretty interesting. FE4 because I heard it had the best storyline and that it was apparently one of the best FE titles.

Which game do you think I should tackle? FE3 or FE4?

Both are fairly solid.

I'd say 4 is overall the more quality and unique title, FE3 does have some interesting things such as dismount and a stat for weapon rank.

FTFY BBY

I really like FE4, it's really unique compared a lot of the other entries. I recommend it a lot.

Truth be told, FE3 is a little clunky and shows it's age a little bit. Still, it's an enjoyable enough retro piece, especially if you want to see what FE was like back in the day. It was also my first FE, so it holds some sort of sentimental value. Also it has the amazing power to make people rage over the ability of climbing on and off of a horse.

FE4's a little old, but it has quite a few unique concepts, as well as introducing several mechanics to the series. The plot's pretty unique too.

FE4 more like FEBore.

FE4 more like FEPoor.

FE4 more like FESnore.

FE4 more like FEWhore.

It's still better than FE3, owing to the fact that only Celice can commit the most detestable and heinous of crimes that is dismounting.

Says the person whose favorite game is FE4. Man, they all must suck, don't they?

Celice having the dismount monopoly is simply that powerful.

Also while there are various resources around the web (and yes, the site you're on), it'll be more entertaining to play the game blind (IMO).

The alternative could be that I just have bad opinions.

As in gameplay or story? Because I sadly already spoiled the story for myself...

Both really, but I don't think story spoilers will detract from the quality of the game anyways (although you'll get deja vu at points).

FE3 FE3 FE3

FE4 IS SHIT

jk play whichever. FE3 is closer to a "traditional" Fire Emblem game in terms of structure, but it's also older and the interface is quite clunky. FE4 is kinda weird, but it's aged better and introduced a bunch of major mechanics.

Dismounting is the 8th deadly sin

I'm guessing dismounting reduces stats?

Yeah. FE4 is already much different than any other FE I've played, especially in map/chapter size...

Dismounting reduces most stats (notably movement) and also locks units to swords. This isn't such a terrible thing because there's no weapon triangle in FE3, and Swords are generally better than Lances.

Also, FE3 has a single weapon level stat that levels up like any other, rather than individual weapon ranks.

The only thing that i recommend that you look up is the list of secret events that no one could conceivably find without a strategy guide: http://serenesforest.net/genealogy-of-the-holy-war/miscellaneous/secret-events/

Also, the developers expected you to save and load the game at least once during each generation. Doing so avoids some minor bugs.

Ah, thank you! Too bad I missed the Hero Axe for Lex... At least I (hopefully) shouldn't miss anything now.

I save at the beginning of each turn, so I should probably be fine. Thanks for letting me know!

It'll be helpful to have a seperate save at the start of each chapter, just in case.

In case of any missed events or anything like that?

Alright, will do then.

Go for both when I first started playing Super Famicom Fire Emblem games FE3 and FE4 were the first two I ever got. FE4 is the better of the two games but FE3 is great to play too poor FE3 it always seems underrated in the series but it has it`s great points so yeah play both they are amazing in terms of FE3 Book 1 is meh but Book 2 is really good! and the OST there is better too so yeah. Be sure to abuse all arenas to the max in FE3 and use Orb Fragments as they boost growth rates I made even Jeigan type units powerful with them then later slap the Star Orb on someone and abuse the arena all growths +30 I created a full powerhouse team that way.. Heh that is the one of best parts of Book 2 orb abuse.

FE4 definitely.

FE3 still has a rather antique interface and controls. Like for example, if you select a unit and get to choose were to move it, you can't actually move your cursor over terrain that the unit can't reach. FE4 was a massive improvement in that regard.

It is also possible to save at the begining of a turn in such a way that someone must die or the game is unwinable. Making backup saves prevents you from having to redo too much. There is also one event in chapter four that is supposed to be obvious, but requires the player to do something that has not been done before, so many people miss it.

If Levin enters silesia castle after it has been liberated, your reward is probably the best item in the game, and one of the best ones in the series

I heard FE3 Book 1 was basically just FE1.

How long is Book 1 actually?

I see. I'll make a back-up save then. Thank you!
