Fire Emblem 8 Lunatic Special

So everywhere I go I hear people complain that FE8 is too easy, that it was a bad game, etc etc. Well, I personally loved FE8 as far as mechanics go, but such claims are somewhat founded in that Sacred Stones was a supremely easy game, even on the highest difficulty setting. As such, and under the influence of my Fire Emblem: Awakening runs, I've settled that I should create Lunatic Mode on FE8; the same FE8 that we all know and love with souped up difficulty that's still balanced and beatable. Of course, details will be changed here and there, and once I figure some stuff out I'd hope to write up some new events and possibly add in a Gaiden chapter or two just to spice things up. Without further ado, I present to you FE8 Lunatic!

A note to quell all the QQ:

It's called FE8LS because too many people are complaining about why there are custom characters given the name FE8L. There will be a release without any custom characters in the future.

Current progress: Finished chapter 8 and tested up to that point. Going for Eirika route first.

Of course, it wouldn't be a real hack if I were to just swap around enemy stats and the like here and there. There will be other changes done to the hack as I progress through it, and here are some of the changes I have planned, some of which have already been implemented.

List of changes:

-Class branching has been modified.

-All skirmishes will turn into post game material.

-A few characters will be changed.

-Supports will be changed.

-Class swaps here and there.

-No more trainee classes; trainees will start as trainee(2), which allows them to promote to a second tier class at level 10+ given the promotion item.

-Valni becomes ungrindable until post game (or really REALLY late game).

-Remove retreat option and replace it with an exit option in battle preparations for skirmishes.

-Arena checker, to do a tile change once an arena has been used a certain amount of times and lock it to prevent abuse.

-New music tracks to convey the horror.

-Eirika will become a tsundere.

-And more that I'm not going to list for now.

Release notes for next patch:

-Hit up to Chapter 15 of Eirika's Route and Chapter 9 of Ephraim's Route.

-Revert Caellach's gender

-Make Ross gain EXP faster

-Maybe make Franz better

-Nerf Seth slightly

-Forged weapons for the enemies. You didn't think they'd stop at silver, did you?

-Probably more stuff to come when my head gets to it.

I like the look of that Vanguard class, but why is Caellach a woman, what's Palla doing there, and who the heck is Chione?

I'll happily play a Lunatic hack, but only really if the story and characters aren't changed. It kinda ruins it for me otherwise. Add new classes and characters and stuff all you want though. But who am I to complain? It's your hack. :P

this looks interesting and also pretty well made i will be trying this

i think that it would be a good idea to give armor knights a 2nd weapon i think axes would be best

franz is not that good, he has nice stats but he uses lances in axe land, and palla is far better

the prolog has better enemies than c1

ross has significantly worse stats than his dad but doesent have the benefit (fast exp gain more levels) of being a trainee anymore

Has Vanguard got any significant leads over Paladin, a mounted class?

Vanguard has better caps and +15 crit, in addition to better promotion bonuses. In addition, it has a special class locked weapon that paladins do not have access to, although it won't be released in v1.0. That, and horse slaying weapons have increased dramatically in number compared to the original FE8. Vanguard has the benefit of being more badass.

We still have Ross, right? The funnest part of FE8 for me was training him up and watching him destroy everything.

Yes, Ross is still in. He's been buffed and nerfed in order to accomodate for the difficulty; he can no longer gain 10 levels over other characters, but his bases and growths have been buffed significantly. In addition, you can promote him straight into Berserker with a Hero Crest now.

Caellach's a favourite bad guy of mine; I don't want him to change. :'( And...Chione doesn't, by any chance, replace Lute, does she?

I liked Caellach a lot too. He was the only FE8 villain I actually liked. I sort of thought of it as a special tribute to him to genderswap him. I mean, I'm not doing that with Valter or Riev >.>

So Paladin is pretty much a no-go then? For some reason I like the idea of that.

No, paladins are still great and have better utility. It depends on your preference, really. Vanguard is lance locked, for one, but is still a superior combat unit to the paladin.

Ugh.

If you stuck to difficulty alterations this would be fantastic.

Where's the fun in that? We have Darion's mode for that :<

aside from balance issues mentioned in my earlier post this seems pretty good i think niemi need a bit of a boost though

Couple questions:

Is "Hard Mode" in this game literally like FE13 lunatic, while Normal Mode is just a lot harder than Vanilla FE8 and Easy mode is pretty much just the same easy mode in the original FE8, or is it the same difficulty for all modes?

I'm going to definitely give this a shot eventually but not right now. I want to wait until you add in those special lances for the vanguard that you were talking about anyway.

i did i bought the longbow but she still feels like she takes to much work, but she is very good due to longbow access

also are you aware that the inventory in ide during the chapter is different from the inventory on the map

also what of my other critiques

and also even with his boosted growths ross is nearly unusable he cant make use of the walled map to level up due to short axe wielding brigands

Not sure about the knight concept. I always liked them as a lance locked unit for first tier, but I could give it some consideration.

Pretty much nobody is very good. Palla is only good if you manage to unlock a secret in ch 2.

Ch 1 has more enemies.

I'm going to definitely give this a shot eventually but not right now. I want to wait until you add in those special lances for the vanguard that you were talking about anyway.

Difficult is more difficult due to enemies having higher base stats and (I think) growth boosts, as well as promoted enemies auto promoting at level 20 instead of level 12 like they do on normal mode (so late game difficult is MUCH harder due to the intense enemy growth increases in FE8L). However, I was unable to modify the equipment and levels for the individual difficulty modes, so otherwise they are the same. As for easy mode, check the readme.

It's funny, because the special lances come in right on chapter 9, the chapter after the one for the patch.

EVERYONE except Seth takes a lot of work. It wouldn't be lunatic if it didn't.

Yes, I am aware. I use this fact to my advantage to put in more secrets and limited edition items here and there.

If you're going to train ross up, there are no shortcuts. That's one of the reasons it's FE8L. However, if he is trained up, it is very rewarding as Berserkers in FE8L are pretty amazing.

i think that the best 2nd weapon for armor knights would be axes as it would make them less lame in early game axe land

also i think that franz is a poor choice to be a soldier it makes him lance locked i think another class would benefit him more, maybe mercenary

I know the arena checker is there to prevent abuse, but I'm not sure why you'd block a playstyle from happening just for the sake of keeping balance or challenge. Some people just like to abuse and some just don't use the arena at all.

Unless you could do some kind of base arena like FE4 with a strict limit to opponents (and maybe a recruitable character hint hint) that everyone can face at least once, but good luck trying to implement that.

It's not implemented yet, so don't sweat it.

he didnt do any new maps thus far, but i would say it is pretty well done

well by the looks of the 17 def paladin i'd say no

17 def Paladin is easy. Rapier, Halberd, Reginleif. FE8 has 3x effectiveness. GG.

If you're going to make accusations, try giving it a playthrough before you make arbitrary statements like that.

Originally it was a vanguard, but that I deemed as unfair. Yes, I did test the game. It's very hard, but still fair.

question: what does palla/random shaman/female calleach actually have to do with FE8?

aka why did you add a random crossover and a self insert and randomly change calleach's gender

I've already said it's to spice things up. Maybe you should look at the earlier posts before making one on your own, your question was already answered and I feel like I'm wasting my time repeating myself.

I didn't think "to spice things up" was an actual response because of how terrible it is. :|

But if the reason is literally "LOL WHY NOT" then yeah not interested.
