No bumping?

Rebecca

Rebecca is basically Lyn given bows and being locked with them forever. And we all know how Lyn puts up with HHM...

Rebecca's earlygame is pretty bad. She might get some credit for small chipping since characters not Marcus, Oswin & Hector 3RKO enemies, except Rebecca, who decides to 4RKO and being limited to player phase. Her chipping is only useful for 1-2 chapters, where maps are small. And she's not taking counters, which is good, with the tons of damage Brigands deal on average units. Her 6-7 Dmg still sucks.

She doesn't have much to do when Marcus is rampaging earlygame. Everyone else is at least useful with their ability to counter-attack.

So like I said earlier, she is basically Lyn with bows. Her durability is awful, and so is her offense. She needs to be overleveled to double reliably, and not even that would save her, since her damage will half enemies' HP most of the time. I suppose someone would bring out the fact she has effective weapons against fliers as a good point. It is pretty useful for a few earlygame chapters where there are a few peggies that only Marcus and most of Lyn's team gets to double and 1RKO.

In midgame there are a few Wyerns.

And then we have her supports. The units she supports the fastest are crap and not worth fielding (Wil). The good units she supports either have high Mov (Lowen, Sain), or arrive hella late (Nino & Louise). So there's not much hope for this girl. The Dart supports would help both out greatly, getting what they really want, Atk/Crit/Avo/Hit.

She would be a decent Sniper if she could get there. And that really depends on *when* you get her there.

OMG it's Farina. :Farina:

Farina arrives as your last peggie during Ch 25, at level 12 and unpromoted. Cool, huh?

Her bases would be solid if she dicided to join like say, five chapters earlier. Still, not shabby at all.

It's pretty cool she'll be facing tons of lolMonks in her joining chapter. I think it's good to give her credit for killing a few of them, since she's very durable against them (They deal 0-1 Dmg) and she 1RKOs them all with a Javelin, so 2-range isn't a problem. So you can count on her getting at least two level-ups by having her kill these guys. Then she retrieves her own promotion item, because Florina and Fiora must be promoted by now, right?

Then come the next few chapters, where she's facing actual danger and the enemies are actually competent.

She's only useful as a flier, which, you have Florina who is promoted by now...who can actually defend herself much better.

Supports? Her fastest supports are most likely full. And the rest are really slow. Don't even bother.

Farina would make a great unit if she bothered to arrive earlier and make herself useful.

But no. Not to mention you're wasting 20,000 for her, when she isn't really worth it unless you decide to take your time and baby her all the way to 20/1.

First page says 3 for rebecca, entry says 3.5

I also have a problem with Farina>Rebecca. Copy past from tier list.

Rebecca

Rath

Louise

Wil

Nino

Farina

... So elaborate on how a bow unit who you have like all game < a flyer who joins super late and costs a stupidly high amount of munniez.

The tier list is based off of ranks, not efficiency. Farina is mainly that low due to her 20,000 gold cost, which is more of a problem for ranks than efficiency.

It makes it seem like you think a tier list is perfect and an alternative view of characters in a semi-arbitrary game is heresy. Citing a tier list as your conclusive proof is like putting down an author's name without citing the actual argument and expecting some sort of conclusive proof to appear out of nowhere. A tier list doesn't debunk the analytical reasoning TLS put forth since a tier list is not a god that is infallible and thus capable of proving something as definitive fact.

I think you should directly address why his reasoning fails before suggesting a change.

These ratings are pretty good so far (well in my opinion), good job TLS =/

@Anouleth: The 20,000 gold alone means you're wasting a lot of resources just to get a unit who isn't even very good, when Rebecca can deal decent chip damage and take no counters.

Barf-tray

Bartre is one of those characters that are only useful for earlygame chipping, and then get the bench.

Lets see, his offense is among the best of those who cannot double. That being, Marcus. He deals 2HKOs on every enemy not a boss. And that is, if he is able to hit, where it's one of his problems are at. He has below-average Hit, so it isn't unreliable against anything that isn't a Mercenary, Myrmidon, or a boss.

Then comes his most important problem, that being. Spd. For doubling Dorcas' Spd growth, IS found a better way to troll us by giving Bartre a Spd base that halves Dorcas'. Running around with 3 AS, he is literally the slowest character. He can't even double Knights or LOLdiers with that. At least the other two slow characters after him, H4XTOR & Osw1n have above-average concrete durability to make up to it. But Bartre isn't running into too much trouble as long as he stays away from anything bearing 7 AS~, it'll be a while before average enemies get to double him, and he might at least get +1 AS if you bothered to grind some levels on him. Not that I recommend it.

So Bartre would actually be a decent character if IS didn't screw Warriors so badly in the GBA series, and gave them better bases/promotion gains.

He supports Dorcas, which is his only viable support. But Dorcas is at least decent for a longer while.

Then he recruits Karla...another bad unit. But I'm going to leave her for some other time.

Karel has the looks.

Do Karel next, then Harken.

I've always used Karel over Harken, but besides my whole thing with long-haired guys and Harken is actually meh looking compared to the other Heroes, it's because at least one Swordmaster have mandatory slots on my team and I have very bad experiences with Guy involving no STR levels... ever. So... I'm majorly biased. But rate as fairly as you can.

Tbh, I always thought of Harken and Karel as a free Brave Sword or Wo Dao with semi-decent combat. But since Brave Sword>Wo Dao and Harken gets a little more durability and much better damage at the cost of 2 speed and 15 crit(Assuming HHM bonuses). Yeah, the better choice is Harken efficiently.

I'm definitely not denying that.

Just I have a massive bias in Karel's favor for looking like Shanan which should not be factored into any ratings anyway. Especially since this isn't my rating thread.

But anyway, I do want to see ratings on them both, even if Karel's may not be what I want to see.

Harken > Karel is not just an opinion, but indeed, a fact.

Karel

Karel is your second Swordmaster, and probably the best one in FE7 as well.

Let's begin with the basic. He joins in with fair bases, decent growths and equipment. He starts out with a Wo Dao, a poor man's Killing Edge, so his critical boost is crazy. He doubles most enemies with his 20 AS, and has fair durability.

His offense is a little mediocre despite being able to double, and unless he has a critical-boosted weapon, he's really relying on strong swords like Steel, Lance reavers and Silvers as he looses little to no AS from them.

Supports, supports, supports...all of them are unviable. Karla's the only fast one. It's just too bad she basically joins one chapter before endgame.

And Karel forbids us from getting Harken.

Harken

Harken is your second and last Hero. Now, unlike Karel, Harken starts out with very solid bases. Not to mention his free Brave Sword, and no looses no AS from it. Harken durabiility lead is as well impressive. (+11 HP/3 Def)

Then his combat is great. As long as he gets to double, he is able to oneround. This applies to most enemies he faces. And I don't see why he can't be entitled to his very own Brave Sword.

At last would be his supports. He has one of the fastest support in FE7, that is shared by Isadorable. They're supports are super fast and effecient. Gives great bonuses.

What are his noticeable weakneses? Well, he's not mounted and doesn't arrive very early. So I'll just have to give him a...

I'd say that's a fair score for him actually despite him being my favorite character in FE7. I'd probably raeg'd if you gave him the same score as, say, his brother-in-law, but...

It's fair enough.

Continue on to Harken~ Who despite being better combat-wise will never be as good-looking.

Alright.

Though if Harken looked anything like Gerik... <3

But it means I won't get any SMs in Eliwood's route unless Guy suddenly changes his mind and actually grows STR the normal way.

He doesn't like me too much. And I tried so hard in using him too. ;_____;

  • 2 weeks later...

Who am I to argue with Serenes Forest but things like Harken > Karel is in my eyes opinion and not fact. Things like Supports unviable for Karel?

I mean really? for ranked runs perhaps but ranked runs isn't everything there is. If you forget about ranked runs for a moment and take character potential into account I'n sure you would agree Karel has FAR better support partners then Harken. Sure Harken one rounds more often due to his superior bases, but Karel evades more. Again Harken is better if you are looking at ranked runs, but if you take character potential into account it's not that simple. My point is that Harken -> Karel is not always the case and depends on how you play the game. Are you doing a HHM run and your goal is to have the best possible rank, then Harken > Karel. But If you are playing to have the best possible team(s) including supports then Karel > Harken.
