Eh. I wish I could say that this is my favorite message board, but I have been getting bored of it from time to time, hence my occasional disappearances. It might be a matter of months before I quit here for good.... Nah.

The only other forums I go to is the Metroid Construction forums.

Edit: I have no real problems with the forums though.

I love the emoticons in this site (though I never use them, it is nice to know that most characters have a cool little emoticon for them selves). Plus this one" :awesome:

I still haven't explored much out of the FE themed boards though.

The site itself is amazing. If I ever need help with anything Fire Emblem related, it's straight to Serenes Forest. The depth of the information is incredible and unmatched.

The forum boards are nice too, though they leave a little to be desired in my tastes. It at least got better when draft tournies were moved from the main forum into their own, since I thought they took away from other kinds of discussion, ones that weren't based around efficiency(I don't play "efficiently," so they never interested me).

As others have pointed out, community is a bit lacking. The members can be helpful, but some are a little too into themselves. Headstrong, overly-critical but overly prideful too. Some end up coming off as rude. I've seen it happen to other users, I've been a victim of it, and I've probably done it myself a few times too. It just seems we all have this air around us that says "I'm better than you, and what I think is right and what you think is wrong."

We should all just get along!

If I were satisfied, I wouldn't have been in active correspondence with Vincent about fixing a particular something now would I? *Ominous cackle*

Anyways, more seriously. I think Serenes Forest could use to expand the bios. A one sentence summery doesn't do a lot of the characters justice. Name origin, family, affiliations... there's a lot of meaty stuff you guys could add.

Next, it'd be nice if you guys had a sprite archive on the site. As much as I enjoy Serenese Forest, it's not my one-stop-shop for Fire Emblem. Frankly I'm mostly only here for the novelty of an active Fire Emblem community, complete with news and hackers. For the modern-ish Fire Emblem resources/stuff, I have to go to FE Planet.

Awesome site all around. Rajaion is great. IP Chat should be fixed if possible.

And why does TearRing have a page when East Chemblem doesn't? :<_<T:

Which poll was that? My mood tends to change about this place. My shiny new badge has temporarily blinded me. XD

The last poll Jyo made about the forums in 2009 :P:.

I'm guessing you are referring to spriting resources only? I've never seen someone seriously claim that FEP even begins to compare to SF as an FE resource 0_o.

Is there an issue with it? I know it goes down once a day, but there isn't much we can do about that, haha. Plus it only goes down for like 5 minutes.

Edit: I edited the OP, feel free to post some suggestions for forum/site improvement in this thread. I don't see what harm it could cause.

One guy mentioned over-modding. I was like "wut" because in all honesty, i dont see the mods do much. Occasionally, ill see a "Hey stay on topic" or a "Guys mellow out." but other than that yeah. Some threads get really bloody heated. I get that some mods dont want to stifle discussion, but telling people to stop flaming each other and calling each other morons and dipshits, isnt stifling discussion. Ya know? ;): So in a way, i think SF is a bit under-modded in areas. (Maybe im just used to a slightly tighter ship being run...)

Well, to be fair you can't really see much. A lot of the time if something is going on we just unapprove the posts and PM the people involved. If you didn't see the discussion before we did it then you never will have gotten the chance to :P:. It's not that we aren't doing anything, it's that we generally prefer for people to not realize we are. The only time you know we're doing something is if a situation comes to the point where we feel we actually need to post or moderate discussion rather than stop it :P:.

For reference, I have 1491 mod actions (warn, thread move, thread close, unapprove post etc) and 316 admin actions (forum management, exile, skin/badge creation and editing, password and account options/recovery etc). I've only been on the staff for a little over a year, so that's multiple actions per day that you probably had no idea I was doing :P.

But yeah, I am pretty lenient anyway. A fun fact: I've unbanned more members than I've banned, if you don't count spambots :P:. Well, I wouldn't say I'm lenient, I just don't agree with how strict the rules can be sometimes and I tend to follow my own judgment on whether or not a situation needs to be dealt with rather than by the code of conduct, unless it's just something annoying that is clearly stated you shouldn't do :P.

I see. You guys just have a different style. I can dig. I mod at (Zelda Universe) and we take a more active (like visibly active) stance on things. I think because this forum is much smaller, the more ninja style works better for you guys. I did notice that lately, a lot of the more heated arguments dont blow up like they did only several months ago. (plus you probably have deleted post visibility disabled for members. Like we dont see there was a post deleted or some junk.)
Its just a style im not used to i guess.

The IP chat user list doesn't refresh properly - not for me and most at least. It doesn't get updated with an icon and name whenever a person comes and when someone leaves, their icon leaves but the online user counter doesn't go down. This makes, over a bit of idling, the member list empty (since people leave and joiners don't get theirs there) and the user counter go high (since joiners are count but leavers not).

That.

I don't think it has anything to do with the size of the forum. I don't believe a moderating team is there to have a presence, and I picked people to be mods who share a similar mindset. If I were admin at a website 10x this one's size and activity, or 10 times smaller, nothing I do would change. The statistics speak for themselves, this is the best behaved the SF forums have ever been :P:.

There isn't anything we can do about the first one. You have to update the page yourself by refreshing.

I dunno what the second issue is, the online list updates for me when I'm in the chat, I just tested it.

I would agree with this. I don't think the mods should stomp on all off-topic or "angry" posts, but every once in a while, a thread will derail for a solid page or two. That's when I think someone should step in and point us in the right direction. They should moderate the discussion. :newyears: (Although really, I don't see too many times in which this would be necessary.)

Not just the sprite resources. The official art, at least, for when I've been looking for stuff, FE Planet either has more of it, or at least, makes it easier to find. The content in general is decidedly not as extensive as Serenes Forest, nothing covering the early Japanese games, or much at all of the recent remakes. But the content, even non-graphical content, that it 'does' have for the games it covers, from my experience, tends to be either easier to get in and out and grab, or have more of what I'm after.

That's odd, last time I checked we either had the same amount or more official art than them, especially notable for FE7. I've used both sites pretty extensively and don't see any notable information they have that we don't. Maybe you just prefer FEP? Its layout? That seems to be the only issue you're having :P:.

That's when I think someone should step in and point us in the right direction. Well, when...

1) They go off-topic several times despite being previously told by a mod not to and that they should just instead move the discussion to "Other Games" where it belongs. Where in an FE13 forum do walls of text that are generally discussing other games mentioning Zelda, Final Fantasy, Metroid Prime, Pikmin but no Fire Emblem (in several posts) belong?

2) They proceed to create a page in the thread where they're all being pointlessly anal about something like the translation of "Mars"/"Marth" because of some translation joke and resume AFTER the user has told them it's a joke. Admittedly I might've stepped in too soon but really? Nitpicking a Mars/Marth translation joke in a thread for discussion of confirmation pertaining to the game's release outside of Japan (at least Europe)?

3) They complain to those involved in the FE12 translation over some decision made final months ago that was already argued before in the same thread. The whole thing basically became one shitstorm that had pointless arguing for the sake of arguing.

Ain't it time to step in and either end the discussion or set things back on track? That's the recent kind of stuff I've "stomped" and other that, there's hardly any other anti-derailing stuff going on. I recall posting a "try not to derail" message a few times but that's only because it seemed like a briefly off-topic bit would probably get quite a bit of attention (Kishoa's ban being briefly discussed in that "Don't you think we can be a little harsh..." thread for example).

I feel like there's generally nothing wrong with a bit of fun tangent discussions as long as no one's complaining about their original discussion being squashed, but I haven't seen too many issues here, and I definitely agree with the staff here much more than I do on other (generally bigger) sites I've been to lately. So I'm definitely not complaining there.
