He could be a soldier with a custom sprite, but considering the pot on the head, I'm going to assume he's not a real soldier. So probably enthusiast, which would be the same as a trainee.

I love trainees.

So much more satisfying to train than the units that start awesome and end awesome.

I'm sure Donny enjoys jabbing his spear into other guys.

I digged the Trainees, since they became my best units in FE8.

But I'm hoping we see playable soldiers this time around, since I really liked using Nephenee back in FE9

We've seen Donny looking very similar in battle as a Halberdier, or at least as a high HP Soldier. So he has access to the Soldier/Halberdier line, and he almost certainly starts as a Soldier.

With that in mind, and especially with the Change Proofs offering a wider class selection for all characters, trainee classes, especially Recruit, would be entirely redundant and almost certainly do not exist.

Or, you just would not be able to use it until his promotion into a normal first-tier unit. Donnie can very well be a reincarnated Villager class.

oh god he better frolick to the enemy just like soldiers in fe2

That's not relevant. My point is, he has a bit of flexibility with his classes, but plenty of other characters will have just as much flexibility or more.

Not every post is meant to be relevant to yours. Posts can very well spiral off into separate discussion from a base material without continuing a discussion of that base material.

There's a picture of Donny's map sprite in the communication section of the official site. We can also see Frederick as a General.

So what do you think? Is he a Soldier or Trainee?

hard to tell yet.. but im getting a trainee vibe from him.also on the bottom screen in the there is donny.i think. a peg knght and a cavalere does that mean liz promotes to a peg knight? (im probably wrong ..its just that i speak no japanese..) in my mind it makes sense... as donnie. liz. and frederick?are all on the top screen...

I'd say Soldier. A trainee isn't going to have better HP than a cavalier regardless of level, and is likely not going to see only 61% hit rate from a General with WTA against him in a game with a lower evade formula than the previous ones.

Though as a character he probably is a new recruit. I'd imagine he'll still be wearing that helmet regardless of class.

Liz promotes to Sage / Battle Cleric. I don't know whether or not the Pegasus Knight is Liz, but if so, it's a result of a Change Proof, just like how Sumia can use one to switch from Pegasus Knight to Cleric.

Liz is the other player's character.

The three characters on the bottom screen are all "your" characters, including Donny.

Are you saying she's an enemy? Her name is in blue, just like Donny's.

It's co-op, so the other player, that is also an ally(?)

Yeah, Dual Tag is 2 players, each controlling one character (from a roster of 3 each), versus the computer.

That screen is probably showing the two character's stats conjoined as if they were one unit. So Donnie's health and stats are conflated with Liz's, if the suspicion is correct.

Characters don't share their HP stats when teaming up normally, so it would be quite odd for them to do it here. And normal teaming up doesn't seem like it would give a large enough bonus for a Tier 0 character to have HP that high, especially since Liz would be very unlikely to give much of an HP bonus.

Furthermore, Donny is listed at the bottom as having 38 HP, and other characters have HP stats in similar ranges. So if the 38 was a sum of his HP and Liz's, their HP stats must be sums as well. Liz's base HP is 17, but in order to be attacking, she must be in a different class, almost certainly one with better HP. If we assume she just promoted from base HP, she should have 21 HP minimum, as a Sage with the lower HP bonus of her promotions. The Pegasus Knight below Donny has 31 HP (both current and maximum), so if that's the HP she would have if she was teaming up with Liz, her max HP must be 10. It could be slightly higher if Liz stayed unpromoted and switched to an unpromoted attacking class with less of an HP bonus, but that's unlikely since she seems to actually be capable of hurting Frederick.

Other characters such as Vake have a custom map sprite(showing his spiky hair), so its possible Donny is just a soldier with a unique appearance.

^ My thoughts exactly.
It's the same for Miriel and Richt. They have edited Mage overworld sprites.

I still like their use of him having a pot for a helmet. If he is a Soldier, I think his branching will be Halberdier with either Paladin, General, or something new.

I wonder what he could switch into? Maybe a Cavalier?

P.S. I still think he's pedo bait. Haha.
