Improving the Genealogy Translation Patch

Of course this is the world where that problem rose up out of nothing in the first place because of completely unrelated changes altering the context enough that SIF decided it would be a good idea, so who knows whether it will commit chicanery elsewhere.
Unfortunately I don't think that it's currently possible to flag a script as not to be merged with, only as not to be merged from, otherwise I would put that flag on the chronology file instead.
I would like to change the font but as I have said in the past I have the graphical skills of a block of butter. I guess I could look around for BSD-licensed fonts or something, but I'm not sure I completely trust my ability to translate them into 2-bit colour.

I'm going to admit I'm also not very fond of the gameplay font either - it strikes me as too stylised and difficult to read for what's meant to be easily readable and accessible, and that was my biggest stumbling block in getting around to properly playing FE4. This may just be me, though.

Not a large selection and was abandoned pretty quickly, but you might find something in here. Alternatively, you could just take a quick look at random game translations/games of a similar style, see if a font jumps out at you, and then rip it and use it. I've kept a small collection of interesting fonts for projects I'll never use; if you'd like them, I could take a look some time.

Hey irtikliwT, have you gotten around to posting the updated patch yet?
I wanted to look into the problem where viewing a leader on the data screen then cancelling the leader viewing turns all '------' leader names into '------is' first.

By the way, irtikliwT, when you make new releases of the patch that fix bugs, do you expect that any new bugs will pop up? I know you can't predict with absolute certainty, but I'd hate to move past a part in the old patch only to skip over a place where there's a problem in the new one.

I don't expect new bugs to show up without my having done anything to explicitly cause them, but that's happened twice now so
I see. The way things stand, I have two options for proceeding in this run.
1. I could make a savestate of the bug area, bypass it using the japanese patch, and do the same for any future problems
or
2. I could just wait until the next patch is out before continuing
Do you have a preference as to which I do? If I'm going to bug test officially, it may be best for me to do the second.

The first. You get more bugs that way.
Alright. I guess I'll just wait for the next update to come out.
In other news, I've completed chapter 1, and there are no bugs there. Chapter 2 is next.
EDIT: Oh, wait, that's the second option. I guess I'll keep playing, then.

It seems ridiculous to me not to change the names to the official localizations, but then again, we still use the fan translated names in the patches for FE1 and FE3.By the way, when Awakening gets released in Europe, I assume you will modify the names to match the official names? It seems like quite a lot of characters will be featured! (This will probably also clear up Celice vs Serlis)

Of course, if it really is only NoE localizing the game then that problem wouldn't exist. But let's hope that doesn't happen.

I think it's more a "Can't someone else do it?" issue than not wanting to update the names. It seems ridiculous to me not to change the names to the official localizations, but then again, we still use the fan translated names in the patches for FE1 and FE3.

Although apparently that's no longer a huge problem... *wink*

In FE3's case, the main hacker, RPGGuy has gone AWOL so I can't even touch the text again, let alone update the names : (
Although apparently that's no longer a huge problem... *wink*
Due to FE12?
The only big things I would want to change are the horrible writing and the battle text (which glitches up on less advanced emulators).

Until Celice/Serlis becomes another name too! It's a shame people would appeal to the official name when at times there are several names considered official. The next step is to regress into saying the most recent name is the best choice, but then as mentioned, not all regions will use the same name.By the way, when Awakening gets released in Europe, I assume you will modify the names to match the official names? It seems like quite a lot of characters will be featured! (This will probably also clear up Celice vs Serlis)
