HHM has more content and stuff.
Better than Pussywood's story.
HectARR is also the main Lord.
It's seen by many as the true mode of FE7.

So yeah you're only missing out on a good thing if you don't bother.

I don't have an issue with the difficulty, besides there's EHM.

Prissbitch: Handed me a Mend Staff then sat on the bench until Raven's chapter. In that chapter she recruited her brother and meatshielded some Cavs who would've probably killed Matthew otherwise. She dodged valiantly for a while but then you can guess what happened!

Lucius: He was probably the best magic user in my team to start with but he decayed over time, though still remaining pretty great. Admittedly he kinda turned into a Staffbot post-promotion (he was the third one).
