Okay, now I'm wondering how Renault ended up working for Nergal.

He's close to Braddock yes, but he's repeatedly made the point that he hates being used as a pawn. Assuming his days with Nergal come after Paptimus is dealt with, I find it hard to imagine how he would end up being used as a pawn again.

Well, as I've mentioned to another reviewer, it's implied that the death of his best friend really wreaked havoc on Renault's psyche. The Civil War arc is gonna continue for some time, but you'll see

It also has something to do with what Nergal mentioned in his battle conversation with Renault--apparently, Nergal, to some extent, held up his end of the bargain, since he asks Renault, "wasn't that what you wanted?" when Renault accuses him of cursing his dead friend.

I know I promised this around the 14th/15th rather than the 20th, but I needed a bit of extra time to make it extra awesome. Next chappie will be out on Jan 1, hopefully...assuming Vindictus doesn't distract me too much. Really though, I think this chappie might be the best I've written overall, so far. If ch. 22 took things up to 11, this chapter takes things up to 15! Even if you haven't read the rest of the story at least give this one a look, although it's full of some important deaths and spoilers. Still, if you could forgive me for pimping m'self out a lil' bit, I'm really proud of this chapter.
