Midir/Midayle has the "I'm Your Daddy Syndrome", with other major victims like Noish, and Lex. Midir is very fragile, but has great skills that will make some damage to his foes. He rarely comes out better than Jamke when it comes to growths, but unlike Jamke, Midir's Pursuit skill can be inherited. 6/10 for weak unit, but excellent father.

Midayle gets a 7/10 from me. Bows on horses is neat and he's quite useful to use alongside the others. But being bow-locked sucks during enemy phases.

Why not Alec and Noish though

Btw what's against letting Alec or pursuit ring Noish having the brave lance for the rest of gen 1, and passing it to Fury at the end?

Oh, then there's nothing wrong with that.

Holyn!Leen can win arenas with the defense sword + brave sword + Prayer combo. It's a shame her stats are garbage, because this is hilariously brilliant. Luna helps alongside the combo since it wins her battles even quicker.

So we've finally made it to Midir. And honestly, he's a bit disappointing.

In game he shows up after getting Jungby back. So availability's good. He's got a horse, so FE4 canto (even better for his bows and getting out of dodge). He's got Pursuit and Charge, so he can absolutely tear through enemies at range. And then you realise that he's got meh bases and growths, he gets weighed down by 8 to start and thus might quite often not even activate Pursuit, never mind Charge (which uses HP as well, where he sucks). And of course his enemy phase requires planning (Else you want Charge to backfire on him). He can get quickly outclassed by enemies, and so is susceptible to the whims of the RNG. There's a bow he can get in certain conditions that can turn him into a machine, but I'll discuss that later. But he's still a unit who can deal at least alright damage, being able to keep up with the cavaliers, even if it's only for chipping. From the start, he has units who'll likely be slower (Lances and axes for you), and is still quite likely to activate Pursuit against many enemies (even if the armours don't take much from him). But bows are also supereffective against flying types: which means that wyverns and even the pegasi are not safe from him. While they're not too common, they still are a point where he can be useful (and triple damage calculates outside defence so he has that going for him). He'll peter out with swords, is still not going to be too quick against the later parts of G1, and his gain's aren't worth much, but he's still capable of doing things.

One oddity is that Bows have a base weight of 8. This seems weird when you consider the swords have 3, and the blades have 6. Even a quiver of 50 arrows would still be questionable as to be being heavier than a thick blade. And it's worse when you realise the Killer Bow has 3 weight (which I didn't bring because trying to avoid buying and selling items when rating). I mean, why that one? Someone wanted Jamke to be even better?

Pairing wise, he's not really relevant for Ayra, Sylvia, Fury and Tiltyu, and only a meh choice for Lachesis and Brigged for the skills he gives (No inheritance weakens it). No, Midir has relevance for only one pairing: Aideen. The kids have no skills, so both are useful (Understandably Charge can screw both over). The growths are alright, as while his luck sucks their's ma's Aideen, so that's no big deal. They're also dodgier and are still past the 95% health threshold, which helps durability. But what really benefits is that Lester can inherit bows from him, which includes the Brave Bow that Aideen gives in Chapter 4 if they're paired. And let's remember, the Brave Bow is ridiculous for Midir (and by extension Lester). So it acts like all the brave weapons. However, this is on top of a unit with charge. So if charge activate even once, Midir gets 8 hits, and really unless you're Ayra that's not happening for most units. That's likely killing that enemy. Frankly this pairing gets such good results that it probably should count for Midir as a whole point, but he doesn't have the Brave Bow for too long and it's not exactly guaranteed.

So, as a unit I have to rate Midir a 6.5/10 (The bias is honestly because of the pairing). He's not a great unit, but he's not terrible, can do well throughout as a chipper and is a best choice for a pair, so there's that.

Midir is a solid unit who can poke enemies, and due to his movement, keep up with the rest of your team, along with charge he can potentially put down some of the tougher enemies in the game because charge on someone who can't fight back is pretty much just death.

Give him one of the 2 great bows and you have yourself a solid unit, 7.5/10 the .5 is out of bias due to the fact I always get str capped Midirs, and that I find him overall an underrated unit.

Pretty boy Midir gets a 7/10.

He's pretty average for me. He has Pursuit, which is good. He can do decent damage. He also sometime dodges, but still gets hit often. He uses bows however, so its easier for him to attack enemies without getting killed.

He's also on a horse, so obviously that's a plus point. But he's still inferior to the mighty Jamke(even if he's a foot unit).

He's the best father for Aideen's kids, and he also passes down Pursuit, something Jamke can't do. Pairing him with Aideen is also the only way you can get the awesome Brave bow, and thus Lester is able to inherit it.

That's..pretty much it. Yeah, Midir is like the really average guy of the game who's a decent father.

Though Midir's damage output is not exactly considered to be the most powerful, the best thing about him is his ability to hit and run without taking too many counterattacks. He also has Pursuit going for him, so he can at the very least do decent damage by getting a few attacks in.

7.5/10, no bias

His stats and charge mesh pretty well with using bows. If he doesn't get the Killer Bow, he's fairly underwhelming, but with it he's go the potential to hit 4 times without counter. His only real problem is he can't EP, which would be handy in a couple of places, but in general he functions pretty well. He also has very little competition because Jamka with Steel->Silver. There's a fair number of flying enemies in the last two chapters, so bows are pretty DANDY.

7.5/10

I warned you all. . . :P:

Midir's introduction consists of him getting his butt kicked, being recruited, and joining up at full health despite earlier ass-whooping. I don't know what he had for breakfast, but he should open a portal to this world and market it. He's a cute redhead with a bow, and he's on a horse, which means he can keep up with mostly everyone, while being damn sexy. He can't take a lot of hits (as evidenced by his introduction), which means that he needs to rely on others for EP things (like Cuan). Pursuit + Charge is pretty funny on him, as the average enemy will end up being a nice pincushion if he manages to get Charge off (especially with Killer Bow in hand). No holy blood, but eh. Someone has to be a commoner!

He's getting 8/10, with a full point of bias because he's the reason I played FE4 for as long as I did.

7/10

Being mounted while simultaneously having a strong 2-range game is a unique niche that only Midir can cover during the first half of gen 1. Later, specifically when Lachesis, Azel or Alec promote and Fury gains access to a Magic Sword, this niche becomes somewhat redundant and I often find myself using Midir less from Ch.4 onward for that reason. He'll still be very solid at what he's doing though and is overall simply a good unit to have.

He does deserve special praise though for making excellent use of his ability to attack over ledges at the end of Ch.2.

But he's a greenhead? Or this might have been a reference or a joke I didn't get.

Midir is pretty meh. Then again I've never gotten him the brave bow, since I was an idiot in my first run and I wanted early rescue in the second. then lester didn't actually suck that badly. yay pursuit Anyway, he comes early and can do hit and run tactics pretty well. Charge is pretty good on archers since they don't have to worry about extra counterattacks, and I'd imagine he'd be good with the brave bow against all the fliers there. Maybe in playthrough 4 where I don't ironman and get you killed in the prologue.

He's alright, I suppose. 6/10.

Messing with my headcanon is a bannable offense :P:

I wrote a special on green-haired units. I'm also fond of redheads. Could've sworn I saw something with a redheaded Midir, which is why it stuck. Doesn't change my feelings about him~!

Heh, here is an excerpt from an interview with Kaga.

"Of course, there are cases opposite to that... Jamuka for example. In the first setting, he wasnt a bowfighter, rather a crabby-legged(squatting) axefighter, but Jamuka became very favored to me. Thats why as he changed to a bowfighter, and added more and more skills, he ended up becoming that strong of of character."

http://serenesforest.net/general/interviews/holy-war/fire-emblem-treasure/

Yes, the Jamke favoritism from Kaga to make Jamke great is ironic because foot-locked with bows and not passing Pursuit to kids is bad.

Sounds about right... Really, if Jamke passed Pursuit, he'd be likely the best foot unit in G1. (Holsety's not around for too long, so I think that might be justified)

Also, the crabby axefighters. Pfft. Always looked silly.

I warned you all. . . :P:

*snip

You weren't kidding.

Midir is pretty decent: while he may not have the best stats.eu, he can still be helpful with his bow, especially with the killer bow of Jamke, which makes even more useful.

His skillset is formed by Charge and Pursuit: Chargé is very useful as It can allow him to one round, tough It can be Dangerous because the enemy can get an extra attack and kill him instead; pursuit is pretty much one of the most useful skills in the game and allows him to double.

Oh, and he has a Mount, so Canto allows him to do killl or damge an enemy and then run from Its range.

So, yeah, I think I'll give him 7.0

Midayle: He's okay. Not bad, but not amazingly good either. He does have a mount which is always a plus in FE4, but do to lack of enemy phase he might take a while to grow. He also needs either Killer or Brave Bow to be useful, because Iron alone won't help much unless he gets really lucky with Charge. 6/10

Thanks to an average of 6.94/10, Midayle is now classed as the better/least horrible of all the Chalphy Knights. And thus, we are finally done with the Prologue chapter! :D
Let's wander deeper into Verdanite/Verdanian territory and meet up with our first swordfighter, Ayra!

Class: Myrmidon (Level 4)
Holy Blood: Minor Odo
Personal Skills: Astra, Nihil

Class Skills: Pursuit, Continue (after promotion)
Stats:
32 HP (70%)
11 Strength (30%)
0 Magic (5%)
16 Skill (60%)
17 Speed (30%)
7 Defense (20%)
0 Resistance (5%)
2 Luck (20%)

My thoughts: Ahahahaha! This girl is amazing! So let's just cover quickly her weaknesses to get rid of them. Her first flaw is that she's a foot unit, which is obviously a very bad thing in this game, so she will probably have difficulties keeping up with your army. Second, her durability can be annoyingly low, because of her not that great HP and low Defence stat. But, those nitpicks barely matters unless the RNG is against you. Why? Simple: Ayra is a beast in one-on-one combat!

I mean, she's got pretty much everything on her side: good base Strength with an okay growth, excellent Skill/Speed base with a great growth in skill, Pursuit (and eventually Continue) as a class skill, and even Nihil just for kicks! But, she most importantly introduced Astra to the franchise, which makes her able to strike five times at full damage!

Really, what else can I say? Her survival may be hard on multiple enemies at once, but she's the bess bosskiller to be ever born, and that makes her instantly awesome: 8.5/10!

Ayra gets a 9.5/10, and with positive bias, a 10/10.

Ayra is just amazing in every way. Not only is she beautiful, but she can ORKO enemies with no sweat. There's also her sweet awesome skills. She has Pursuit, and while it is a class skill, makes her super awesome. She also gets Continue after promotion. She also has the magnificent Astra skill, which make s her attack five times, making it easier for her to kill enemies with no problems. And, if she isn't paired till Ch3, she can get the Brave Sword( an awesome sword obviously) by Lex or Holyn. There's also her Oda blood, so obvious bonus there. She also has Nihil.

Sure she isn't on a horse but I don't care much for movement. And it's not like she gets into major trouble.

She's one of your fastest units, so definitely using her is a must!

While Ayra has stellar speed, and the mighty astra skill at her side, she lacks a mount, and that quite honestly negates tons of potential high points due to how FE4 is designed.

She cleans up the Arena no trouble, but she lacks the ability to really get into range to do much of anything significant in time, were this a different FE she'd probably be a bit better, but as it stands, she simply won't be doing much compared to Sigurd, Cuan, Fin etc. In more casual runs its fine for her to get a huge amount of combat time as she's easy to use, but in terms of overall true effectiveness

She gets a 5/10 was originally going to go with a 4, but since I like Swordmasters I'll give her a point of bias.

Ayra is.... Pretty powerful. Right out the gate she's got good bases, alright to great growths (Pretty much certain to cap skill), Pursuit is tied to her class (as is Continue on promotion), so that's good. And her personals are... Nihil (not all that relevant) and Astra. Astra is frankly amazing. 5 attacks at full power (i.e. better than fates/awakening Astra), which can proc on any attack. Most units won't take one proc. And she can proc on each attack! So she's amazing in Chapter one, once you can recruit her. Which is a pain in the ass to do. You have to:

1: get her distracted from Genoa with a unit like Cuan (Who can still be killed by Astra) or Alec (Who can be killed if he didn't proc certain stats)

2: then kill all the units around and in the castle (Likely with Sigurd, taking exp away from others if that was the plan)

3: capture the castle, at which point she'll start running back to it

4: THEN talk with Sigurd to finally get her.

This is a terrible recruitment method for early on, and is likely one of the most frustrating in the series (Not most: Xavier exists, after all).

However, there are other negatives. She's a foot unit, which means she's both slow to the fight in Chapter 2 and in 3 will likely have to stick to one front. She's sword locked, so those chapters also are more likely to hit and kill her, with her defensive growths being alright, but not that great. She also starts with an Iron blade, which can make her lose Pursuit against wind mages and sword users. However, all the positives still stand, and there's more! For one thing, she gets a brave sword in chapter 3 if you didn't pair her yet (I learned this the hard way). Even if you're not pairing her with Lex or Holyn, this is a great weapon to get, and boosts her Astra potential to up to 20 attacks. Needless to say, NOTHING in G1 (Except for maybe Langbolt) can take that offence. If they can hit her she's in trouble though. She's relevant on offence throughout G1, but she'll mostly have the issue of keeping up and surviving the full assault.

One thing I hadn't mentioned yet is that the Brave weapons have the Continue skill on them, similar to the Killer Bow and Critical. Of course, this means that her Continue skill is essentially extraneous for her, as she has it on her best weapon all the time.

Well, we might as well talk about the pairings she has in general, and in this case rank a bit. So, she's got 13 options, and most of them will be fine anyway, as Ayra's solid enough that many dads just add to their strength, rather than make a big change. Though that's not always a good thing, as pairing with Claude should indicate. While it makes them tankier for magic, there's nothing much else for them, and they're only really effective with magic swords. Getting Charge on them is a good call, as Noish, Beowolf, Midir and Jamke indicate, benefits of adding rounds to a unit with Astra should be obvious. Holyn is a unit who gives a highly specialised pairing, with the kids having amazing skill, Major Odo (which has a potential glitch in their favour) and Luna. This procs exclusively against Astra, and will pretty much always do less damage. Lex gives them tanking, Vantage and Paragon, which help them survive enemy phase and get leveled up without the Paragon ring. Dew gives them very good growths in all but HP (unfortunately at 95%) for physical units, Bargain (which makes everything cheaper) and Sol. While it procs against Astra, it also heals them all damage dealt, which they'll still be strong on. This means that they can hold in the front lines better if it procs. While it's not consistent, it is a good thing for them to have.

I'm going to give a list of who I recommend for pairing with Ayra (You can try others and it'll likely be fine to be honest: these kids are good enough that it's not as big a deal in this case):

Keep in mind, I'd argue most of these are close enough that it's no big deal what numbers they are

Dew (Great at most growths, Sol and Bargain, and good to full inheritance if he promotes)

Holyn (Luna's strong, boost with Brave Sword talk, lovely HP, full inheritance and the potential in the Balmung Glitch)

Lex (Paragon + Vantage, boost with Brave Sword talk and great tanking growths)

Jamke (Giving Continue and Charge and good strength and speed makes up for no sword inheritance)

Noish (Critical and Charge are great for these kids, and there's good inheritance in this pair)

Ayra gets an 8.5/10 from me. While being a foot unit and her defence push her down, everything else is to her benefit. She's great for tearing through walls, gets a Brave Sword and is powerful throughout the G1.

I realise I'm terribly biased towards foot swordspeople which is why I just can't not rate the princess of Isaach.
8F0fKz4fLaA.jpg

A long-black-haired deadly swordsgirl blessed with Pursuit, Astra and Nihil from get-go, a brave sword in Ch3, and a pair of legs, what else to want?
Obviously, a horse, but we can't have that so that she's even more broken than she is. Also we already have Sigurd.

8,5/10 overall, half a point for bias included.
