Before Battle (Castle Daein)

Tauroneo:
“A rebellion in the empire?! Is that true?”

Sothe:
“That’s what I heard from Tormod. The empire has been thrown into chaos since General Zelgius freed Duke Persis. The two of them appeared on the streets and incited the peasants by asking, Who should you believe in? The senate, or the apostle?”

Tauroneo:
“And the people have chosen the apostle, correct?”

Sothe:
“Yes. They’re rioting in the capital day and night. To welcome their true ruler, the whole empire has burst into rebellion. The senate is busy trying to quell the masses.”

Tauroneo:
“Then, wouldn’t that be great news for our country? If the senate was defeated then the blood pact would disappear…”

???:
“That’s not possible.”

(Pelleas enters the room)

Tauroneo:
“Your highness!?”

Pelleas:
“Duke Gaddos isn’t that kind… If the senate was destroyed, he would drag our country to the grave with him. Actually he would probably sacrifice our country just to find his own method of surviving.”

Sothe:
“No matter what happens, Daein is just a pawn. Is that what they’re thinking?”

Pelleas:
“Where is Micaiah?”

Tauroneo:
“She’s resting in another room. Should I calll her here?”

Pelleas:
“Please do. I finally found a way to break the blood pact.”

Sothe:
“Really!? I’ll get her right away.”

(Another room)

Micaiah:
“You can’t be serious, Your Majesty!”

Pelleas:
“But, I am. Don’t you see?! This is the way to save Daein!”

Tauroneo:
“…Where did you find that book? Can we trust it?”

Pelleas:
“The information was in a book hidden away in a secret room. In that room were many treasures belonging to the previous kings of Daein. I think it is reliable.”

Sothe:
“So you’re saying, there’s still a chance it won’t work?”

Tauroneo:
“I must ask you to reconsider, my king. There has to be another way. There must be!”

Pelleas:
“We can’t afford to wait for another solution to present itself. Daein’s destruction is just moments away… We have to try.”

Micaiah:
“…I cannot go through with it.”

Pelleas:
“Micaiah, the life of every single person in Daein depends on this! If it works, we’ll be released from the senate’s shackles and Daein will become free. Then we can stop fighting this absurd war. It will be all right. I know this will work! Please do this for me, Micaiah.”

Micaiah:
“I can’t! I am just a weak human… I thought I’d do anything for Daein, even as far as to resort to cowardly tactics! But then I saw Sothe taken from me, and I saw him fall… I was powerless to do anything! I’d taken so many lives as a general, and yet, when I thought of Sothe dead…”

Sothe:
“…”

Pelleas:
“Even if it hadn’t been Sothe in front of you, you would have reacted the same way. That’s the kind of person you are.”

Micaiah:
“Huh?”

Pelleas:
“Humans are selfish. Individual lives taken before your eyes weigh more heavily than the many lives taken during the chaos of war. If that life is someone dear, the burden is even worse. Isn’t that true?”

Pelleas:
“Micaiah. It’s your caring soul that I admire. That’s why I want it to be you.”

Pelleas:
“I want you to kill me.”

Micaiah:
“No, I can’t! I can’t do it! Don’t make me do this, please!”

Pelleas:
“The blood pact breaks when the pact-maker is killed by a third party. That is exactly how it’s written. Ending one’s own life, a gift from the goddess, is the greatest taboo. Fortunately, it didn’t say to commit suicide… That makes me relax a”
little.

Micaiah:
“Please! Please don’t ask me to do such a horrible thing.”

Pelleas:
“This is my duty as king, Micaiah! If you won’t do it, I must ask someone else!”

“Obey his command” is chosen

Micaiah:
“All right… I’ll do it… I’ll do it for you, and for Daein.”

Pelleas:
“Thank you, Micaiah.”

(Pelleas hands Micaiah a dagger)

Pelleas:
“General Tauroneo. Please look after the people of Daein.”

Tauroneo:
“Yes…Your Majesty.”

Pelleas:
“Sothe. I’m sorry for all that I put you and Micaiah through, including this. Please forgive me.”

Sothe:
“Don’t worry about that now, Pelleas.”

Pelleas:
“Micaiah. Please give this ring to my mother. Tell her that I loved her dearly.”

Micaiah:
“…I will, Your Majesty.”

Pelleas:
“Good-bye, my friends.”

(Screen goes white)

Micaiah:
“Your Majesty. Sniff…what have I done?”

Almedha:
“Pelleas! Is he here?!”

(Almedha appears)

Almedha:
“NOOOOO! Pelleas! My dear Pelleas!”

(Almedha falls to the floor)

Tauroneo:
“Queen Almedha…”

Almedha:
“Who did this?! Who killed my son?! Was it you?! I know who it was… YOU! You killed my Pelleas!”

(Sothe stands in front of Micaiah)

Micaiah:
“…”

Sothe:
“It was the king’s wish. He sacrificed himself to make Daein free. He asked Micaiah to end his life.”

Tauroneo:
“His Majesty accomplished his mission with his death. It was an honorable end for a king. Thanks to his noble sacrifice, Daein has been saved.”

Almedha:
“Fools! Is that what you think?! Daein has not been saved!”

Tauroneo:
“Wh-what do you mean, my queen?!”

Almedha:
“Take a good look.”

(Image of Pelleas’s arm, with the blood pact mark still there)

Almedha:
“The mark is still on his wrist. My son’s death was in vain!”

Micaiah:
“No! It can’t be! Sothe, tell me that it isn’t true…”

Almedha:
“Murderer! Give me back my son! You took my only son! Give him back!”

“Pass the burden to another” is chosen

Micaiah:
“I…I’m sorry. I can’t do this…”

Pelleas:
“I see… That is all right, Micaiah. I know it’s a terrible thing to ask. …General Tauroneo. It is your duty.”

Tauroneo:
“Your Majesty… Is this necessary?”

Pelleas:
“This is your king’s order, General. You must obey.”

Tauroneo:
“Such will, at so young an age! …As you wish, Your Majesty.”

(Pelleas hands Tauroneo a dagger)

Pelleas:
“General Tauroneo. Please look after the people of Daein.”

Tauroneo:
“Yes…Your Majesty.”

Pelleas:
“Sothe. I’m sorry for all that I put you and Micaiah through, including this. Please forgive me.”

Sothe:
“Don’t worry about that now, Pelleas.”

Pelleas:
“Micaiah. Please give this ring to my mother. Tell her that I loved her dearly.”

Tauroneo:
“Queen Almedha…”

Almedha:
“Who did this?! Who killed my son?! Was it you?! I know who it was… YOU! You killed my Pelleas!”

(Sothe stands in front of Micaiah)

Tauroneo:
“No, Queen Almedha. It was I. I killed the king.”

Almedha:
“Traitor!”

Sothe:
“It was the king’s wish. He sacrificed himself to make Daein free. He asked the general to end his life.”

Tauroneo:
“His Majesty accomplished his mission with his death. It was an honorable end for a king. Thanks to his noble sacrifice, Daein has been saved.”

Micaiah:
“No! It can’t be! Sothe, tell me that it isn’t true…”

Almedha:
“Murderer! Give me back my son! You took my only son! Give him back! Bring him back to me!”

“Refuse his command” is chosen (2nd playthrough only)

Micaiah:
“I…I’m sorry. I can’t do this…”

Pelleas:
“I see… That is all right, Micaiah. I know it’s a terrible thing to ask. …General Tauroneo. It is your duty.”

Tauroneo:
“Your Majesty… Is this necessary?”

Pelleas:
“This is your king’s order, General. You must obey.”

(Pelleas hands Tauroneo a dagger)

Tauroneo:
“Such will, at so young an age! …As you wish, Your Majesty.”

Pelleas:
“Micaiah. Please give this ring to my mother. Tell her that I loved her dearly.”

Micaiah:
“…I will, Your Majesty.”

Pelleas:
“Good-bye, my friends.”

(Tauroneo is about to stab Pelleas)

Micaiah:
“NO! This is wrong! We can’t give up, Your Majesty!”

(Micaiah runs between Tauroneo and Pelleas)

Tauroneo:
“Eh?”

Pelleas:
“Micaiah?!”

(Micaiah falls to the floor, Sothe picks her up)

Tauroneo:
“Lady Micaiah…”

Pelleas:
“What did you do?!”

Micaiah:
“I…I’m all right. I…”

Pelleas:
“Fetch a healer! Now!”

Micaiah:
“No, I’m fine, really. I’m just confused… Is the goddess telling me that I’m not worthy to become a martyr for Daein?”

Pelleas:
“Or maybe she is saying that you’re just too important to lose…”

Pelleas:
“But this is my fault! It was all because I signed that blood pact! I can only amend my mistake by giving my life!”

Micaiah:
“You must stop running, Your Majesty.”

Pelleas:
“Wha–!”

Micaiah:
“But what if your information is incorrect, Your Majesty? I couldn’t live with myself if I’d let you give up your life in vain. There MUST be another way! We’ll look for it together. There is… I… I can see…”

Sothe:
“Micaiah! Hey, Micaiah! Wake up!”

Tauroneo:
“I will call a healer right away!”

(Tauroneo leaves, Pelleas collapses on the floor)

Pelleas:
“Micaiah… Thank you…”

Before Battle (Apostle’s Army)

Ulki:
“…We’ve finished scouting.”

Tibarn:
“What’s going on with Daein?”

Janaff:
“They’re holed up in this big castle to the east. Right now, it’s like a sea of black armor over there. I’d say ten thousand soldiers, give or take. They’re looking pretty desperate. I reckon they’re almost ready to directly clash with us.”

Tibarn:
“To the east, eh? It’s just like Soren said. Nox is the next battlefield.”

Soren:
“…”

(Later)

Ranulf:
“Ten thousand? They aren’t really going to try to fight us with only ten thousand men, are they?”

Skrimir:
“What are they thinking? It’d be suicide! Even if they matched our numbers, the difference in fighting ability is as clear as day. Laguz and Beorc fighting one on one… I don’t need to tell you who’s going to win.”

Sanaki:
“Daein should know about the rebellion in the empire by now. We should speak with them. They have nothing to gain by siding with the senate. Why continue the fighting?”

Ike:
“It’s not just Daein’s army either… Our real battle takes place once we enter Begnion soil. We need to respond to the rebellion and conquer the capital in one swift move. We can’t afford to lose any more troops or time here, either. We should be at the senate’s doorstep by now.”

Sanaki:
“Agreed. Sephiran has earned some time for us. We can’t afford to lose that advantage. We must press on. Let us win this battle quickly and continue on our way!”

(Later)

Rafiel:
“General Ike. Please allow me to join you on the battlefield.”

Ike:
“Shouldn’t you be watching over the medallion with your brother and sister? Is it really a good idea for you to be away?”

Nailah:
“I think it should be fine. However don’t let Rafiel join the battle by himself. Let me come along as well.”

Ike:
“Sure, I don’t mind, but why?”

Rafiel:
“They can manage without me for a while. I am here because I must see Micaiah. I want to save her. I can reason with her. I know it.”

Ike:
“Even if you’re up for it, if she doesn’t want to listen, there’s nothing we can do about it.”

Rafiel:
“…Still, I’d like to try. Please.”

Nailah:
“If we can talk to her face-to-face, maybe she will understand. It’s also for our own peace of mind.”

Ike:
“All right. No matter how you look at it, this battle is in our favour. I’ll tell my men to avoid firing at Micaiah. Sound good?”

Rafiel:
“Thank you, Ike.”

Before Battle (Castle Nox)

Daein Soldier:
“The outer gate has been breached! The apostle’s army is storming the castle!”

Sothe:
“Here they come.”

Micaiah:
“…It all ends here.”

(Ike’s army)

Ike:
“Let’s finish this fight quickly! All units, attack!”

Micaiah:
“We will not lose! We cannot lose! Everyone, give it your all! For Daein, for our future!”

Turn 1 of battle

Daein Soldier:
“Maiden, please take this.”

Micaiah:
“What’s this?”

Daein Soldier:
“You are the commander general of the Daein army. It is imperative that you lead our troops from this spot. However, with this tome, you can aid your allies from afar.”

Micaiah:
“Thank you.”

Micaiah passes the line

Daein Soldier:
“M-Maiden of Dawn, please wait! If you leave your position, our forces will collapse in confusion! Please remain here and give your orders to your troops!”

Micaiah:
“Well, all right.”

Towards the end

Ranulf:
“Ike, are you safe? Wait, that was a dumb question, wasn’t it? I don’t think any of us are safe at the moment.”

Ike:
“Are you guys finished with the preparations?”

Ranulf:
“Yeah. The rest of the force is on the way. They should arrive any minute.”

Ike:
“All right. Once we merge, we’ll launch the attack.”

(Nailah and Rafiel appear)

Nailah:
“Rafiel, are you ready? Let’s go look for Micaiah. Do not leave my side these beorc look edgy.”

Rafiel:
“Yes, Queen Nailah. I’ll be closer than your own shadow.”

After Battle (Castle Nox)

Daein Soldier:
“Maiden of Dawn! The enemy is approaching. Please, you must withdraw inside the castle!”

Micaiah:
“Our defenses have been broken… We did everything we could. It’s only a matter of time now.”

Sothe:
“Priestess of Dawn!!”

Micaiah:
“Huh?”

Sothe:
“What are you waiting for? Get the remaining soldiers into the castle and prepare to hold the castle!”

Micaiah:
“Sothe!?”

Sothe:
“As long as you’re still able to stand, our soldiers won’t lose hope. Daein can still fight… Isn’t that so?”

Micaiah:
“…Yes, you’re right!”

Micaiah:
“Daein soldiers, pull back immediately! Take up positions inside the castle! We won’t let them take us without a fight!”

(Inside the castle)

Daein Soldier:
“The inner gate has been breached! It’s only a matter of time before they break through the inner walls.”

[Note: The following lines involving Micaiah’s army were slightly changed in the English version]

Micaiah:
“Gather the soldiers into the inner wall! I’ll head there straight away!”

Daein Soldier:
“Understood!”

Sothe:
“The Apostle’s Army led by Commander Ike sure is something… We couldn’t even manage to hold the castle…”

Micaiah:
“We tried our best though.”

Sothe:
“…”

Micaiah:
“How strange. It sure is quiet right now…”

Sothe:
“Micaiah…”

Micaiah:
“Yune, come over here.”

(Yune flies to Micaiah’s shoulder)

(If Pelleas died)

Micaiah:
“Daein is going to fall… It will disappear under the heavy weight of another country… That is how this country ends.”

(Image of Micaiah’s arm, revealing the blood pact mark)

Micaiah:
“Yet, even so… it’s better than the blood pact snatching lives slowly one by one. Battle after battle… ’til we’re outside death’s doorstep, we’ve been able to experience life’s sensation… Although we ought to apologise for dragging the Apostle’s Army with us.”

(If Pelleas is alive)

Micaiah:
“Daein is going to fall… It will disappear under the heavy weight of another country… That is how this country ends. Yet, even so… I’d rather this than have to sacrifice King Pelleas and it’s better than the blood pact snatching lives slowly one by one. Battle after battle… ’til we’re outside death’s doorstep, we’ve been able to experience life’s sensation… Although we ought to apologise for dragging the Apostle’s Army with us.”

Sothe:
“In the end… It’s their fault for allowing the senate to do as they pleased. As we clashed blades, it was nice to think this war was their punishment.”

Micaiah:
“Sothe, you…”

Micaiah:
“Yune, you may go.”

(Yune flies away)

Micaiah:
“Thank you… for accompanying me up to now.”

Sothe:
“What’s it doing? It just left without looking back. In the past, when you tried to make it go away it would always return to your side.”

Micaiah:
“It’s a clever child… It knows what I meant.”

Sothe:
“But, isn’t that just a little heartless?”

Micaiah:
“I have Sothe, that’s already enough…”

Sothe:
“…Yeah. It is enough.”

Micaiah:
“Then… Let us depart.”

(Ike’s army)

Ike:
“Break down that gate! If they won’t come out, we’ll just let ourselves in. All forces, advance!”

Ranulf:
“Ike! We have a problem! A big problem.”

Ike:
“What is it!?”

Ranulf:
“All this battlefield chaos is starting to really affect the laguz.”

Ike:
“Y-your face is pale…”

Ranulf:
“I know, I… I’m kind of surprised I’m still holding together. The situation is terrible right now. But, I’ve always been different to the others… The other Laguz are probably on the verge of losing control.”

Ike:
“But, can’t we just stop fighting now?”

Ranulf:
“We should. But… I can’t stop them, Ike! If they find Micaiah, they’re going to tear her apart. I guarantee it.”

Ike:
“Blast! We need to get them under control. Where’s Skrimir?”

(Tibarn’s group)

Janaff:
“Hey, Ulki. What the heck is that on the horizon?”

Ulki:
“The flapping sounds heavier than a wyvern… It sounds huge.”

Tibarn:
“Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me… All units, get down! NOW!”

(Movie plays – A Black Dragon wrecks a castle)

(Image of Elincia and Ena in front of a Black Dragon)

Ena:
“All of you are ordered to throw down your weapons and cease fighting! Do this for your own welfare.”

Elincia:
“Lord Ike! Members of the Apostle’s Army! Please listen to Ena’s request and retreat for now!”

Ike:
“Ena! Elincia! What’s going on here?”

Ranulf:
“It’s a black dragon of Goldoa…”

Tibarn:
“Are you guys alright?”

Ike:
“Tibarn, what’s going on?”

Tibarn:
“Why are you asking me? All I know is that I’m not ready to step up to a black dragon. Did you see that blast?”

Ike:
“Point taken. All units, retreat! Platoon commanders, gather your men!”

(Micaiah’s army)

Micaiah:
“What just happened? Why did the apostle’s army leave? And what was that horrible sound?”

???:
“Micaiah!”

Micaiah:
“Kurth! Where have you been? Why would you even come to a horrible place like this?”

Kurthnaga:
“It seems you’re safe. That’s great… are you hurt?”

Micaiah:
“N-no…”

(Nailah runs towards Micaiah)

Daein Soldier:
“The sub-humans are here! Protect the maiden with your lives!”

Micaiah:
“Stop! Stand down, all of you!”

Micaiah:
“Queen Nailah… Rafiel… I… Th-thank you. Thank you…so…much…”

Rafiel:
“Micaiah…”

(Rafiel appears)

Micaiah:
“Ah… Sniff…”

Rafiel:
“It’s all right, Micaiah. It’ll be all right…”

After Battle (Apostle’s Army)

Ike:
“That black dragon is Prince Kurthnaga? Sheesh, I thought the lions got big…”

Ena:
“…Yes, it’s our prince.”

Tibarn:
“Ah, it’s the son, is it? I thought maybe the dragon king had shrunk a bit in his old age.”

Skrimir:
“You all know the dragon prince of Goldoa?”

Ranulf:
“Yeah. Goldoa hosted a meeting of laguz royalty three years ago. That’s when Tibarn and I met him. Hey, Ike. From what you just said, you’ve met him as well?”

Ike:
“Yeah, Elincia and I met him around the same time. I’d say he was a nice kid, except that he’s older than all of us put together.”

Elincia:
“I can confirm that.”

Sanaki:
“The dragon prince of Goldoa… Why has he appeared in person… and why did he stop our battle as well?”

Ena:
“The prince hopes to avoid the complete destruction of Daein and its people. We would like to ask you to implement a cease-fire and hold a peace talk.”

Sanaki:
“We have attempted to hold peace talks with Daein on multiple occasions! They refuse to listen to reason, and instead choose to fight. If the dragon tribe are able to persuade them, then that’s fine by us. We have no more time to waste on people who choose war over peace at every turn!”

Ena:
“Your people are waiting for you in Begnion. Is that what presses you?”

Ike:
“It’s not just that. All this strife and chaos has affected the medallion. It’s shining brighter each day.”

Elincia:
“No! That can’t be!”

Ike:
“It’s just like the Mad King’s War three years ago. The chaotic energies in that battle gathered within the medallion. Its the same this time, except its shining far stronger.”

Ena:
“The blue flame burns once more…”

Ike:
“Blue flames?”

(Image of the medallion)

Ena:
“The light that radiates from the medallion looks like blue fire. It’s this flaming aura that earned the medallion its other name the Fire Emblem.”

Sanaki:
“The Fire Emblem…”

Ena:
“The flames on the Fire Emblem indicate the awakening of the dark god. If the war is allowed to continue, nothing can stop the dark god’s awakening. We must halt this fighting.”

(Image fades)

Ike:
“But how do we end it?”

Ena:
“We must first prevent the Apostle’s Army and the Daein army from fighting. Then we must end the rebellion at Begnion. For that, Empress Sanaki, we require your assistance.”

Sanaki:
“If there is a way to stop the fighting, we shall do everything in our power to aid in that effort. We have pursued peace since this began.”

Ena:
“Then let us wait until Prince Kurthnaga returns. He is speaking with the leaders of Daein now.”

(Inside a tent)

Ike:
“Elincia… We’ve almost exhausted the 5000 soldiers we borrowed from Crimea… I’m sorry.”

Elincia:
“Empress Sanaki just apologised to me before… I heard the soldiers’ bodies have already been buried by the bishops. So the only thing I can do… is to bring their spirits back home… and tell their families everything.”

Ike:
“…”

Elincia:
“Lord Ike… Please lift your spirits. This is war… I already anticipated this.”

Ike:
“Elincia…”

Elincia:
“I am the Queen. If I don’t stay strong, then…”

Ike:
“…It seems Crimea has itself a strong ruler.”

Elincia:
“…Is that so?”

Ike:
“Right… I forgot to ask, what are you doing here. Did Ena and Kurth ask you to bring them to this battle?”

Elincia:
“No, that wasn’t the case. Prince Kurthnaga and I ran into each other on our way here. We had already entered Daein’s borders by that time.”

Ike:
“Leaving your own country behind… Something important must have happened.”

Lucia:
“We are actually in Daein to look for Count Bastian of Fayre.”

Ike:
“Lucia! You’re here, too?”

Lucia:
“Of course. I cannot let Her Majesty out of my sight. You know that.”

Elincia:
“Bastian… He’d been so good about sending me reports until recently.”

Ike:
“He was searching for the Black Knight, right?”

(Image of the Black Knight and Bastian)

Ike:
“So, did he find any leads?”

Elincia:
“According to the information Bastian gathered, the Black Knight had already left Daein before the empire’s observer arrived. Where he went remains a mystery.”

Ike:
“So Count Fayre has been searching everywhere for his news?”

Elincia:
“No, actually… He said he had temporarily given up pursuing the Black Knight and started investigating something else.”

Ike:
“What was he investigating?”

Elincia:
“I’m not sure. He said something more important had come up with regards to Crimea. He’s been missing ever since. I haven’t heard a single word from him.”

(Image fades)

Ike:
“Bastian likes to keep his secrets. He’s probably just laying low somewhere.”

Lucia:
“I’m not so sure. He must’ve found something important, some new piece of information that he had to pursue.”

Ike:
“How long has he gone missing?”

Elincia:
“…Roughly 4 months. I ordered Geoffrey to watch over Crimea, and came here to begin a search for Bastian.”

Ike:
“It’s too dangerous for you and Lucia to travel by yourselves. We can help you look for him as well. Why don’t you come with us? Everyone would love having you two around.”

Elincia:
“Thank you, Ike. We’ll gladly accept the offer.”

Ike:
“I’ll try my best.”
