Before Battle (Greil Mercenaries Hideout)

Ranulf:
“Finally found you. It’s almost been half a year since we last met… You’re never home!”

Ike:
“Our band of mercenaries is relatively poor. If we don’t go out and work often, we won’t even have any meals.”

Ranulf:
“Well, this time you’ve landed a large pay, right? After all, you managed to rescue lady Lucia from execution.”

Ike:
“When I first heard about this mission, I thought Bastian wanted us to do something crazy…… However, after I saw Elincia, everything made sense. Crimea won’t be troubled any longer. Even without our or Gallia’s aid… she’ll be able to handle anything.”

Ranulf:
“You think so…? That’s glad to hear.”

Ike:
“Right, speaking of Crimea, I saw Princess Leanne in the Crimean royal court.”

Ranulf:
“Huh! What did she tell you?”

Ike:
“You’re asking what she told me……? I kept hearing only one phrase.”
“Please save my brothers.” She said more, but it was in the ancient tongue, which I couldn’t understand a word of. When I asked that old crow, he just said “We can’t disclose this information to the Beorc”, and he didn’t even explain why he wouldn’t translate for us.

Ranulf:
“Don’t blame him, it’s top-secret information related to the well-being of many countries. If that information spread… it would be disastrous to say the least. Luckily for us, you don’t understand the ancient tongue.”

Ike:
“So what exactly is going on?”

Ranulf:
“Ah, well…… ………………This happened all very suddenly. Are you prepared to hear?”

Ike:
“Yes.”

Ranulf:
“Very soon…… war will come once again.”

Ike:
“What?!”

Ranulf:
“Gallia, Phoenicis and Kilvas…… Those three countries have united to become the Laguz Alliance.”

Ike:
“…Who are they fighting?”

Ranulf:
“The Begnion Empire.”

Ike:
“……You’re right about it being sudden. I know there are centuries-worth of problems between the laguz and Begnion, but I thought things were getting better in recent years.”

Ranulf:
“To be precise…… the trigger was the restoration of Daein. Within the new King of Daein’s personel were members of the mythical wolf tribe… as well as a heron prince.”

Ike:
“A heron prince….. Could that be a relative of Reyson’s?”

Ranulf:
“Apparently he’s the eldest son of the herons. His name’s Rafiel…… and he’s living at Gallia right now. In fact, it was Prince Rafiel’s news that ignited the flames of this war…”

(Movie plays)

Before Battle (Laguz Alliance Camp)

Ranulf:
“Flaguerre is close now. It’s a fortress city near the Begnion border. The enemy doesn’t know about our movement, so they’re completely defenceless. We’ll storm the city at night and take them out in one swift blow.”

Skrimir:
“Yes! Finally, a chance to rend my foes!”

Ranulf:
“………The reason we’ve been able to enter Begnion territory so easily… is because we have access to hidden passages that only Gallia’s beast tribe know about. If you think about it, if there wasn’t this path through the Erts mountains… our advance here wouldn’t be possible.”

Skrimir:
“But I would rather have a head-on fight. Why do we have to sneak through the hidden passage, like a pack of cowards?”

Ranulf:
“……………… Anyway, the fortress has three entrances. We’ll attack from the south-eastern entrance. Our battle plan is to subdue the fortress before the city’s defences can get into battle formation.”

Ike:
“What’s our role in this?”

Ranulf:
“I want the Greil Mercenaries to act as a guerrilla force. The worst thing for thr beast tribe to face is beorc fire magic……. Basically, take out their fire mages for us.”

Ike:
“Understood.”

Ranulf:
“Also… we don’t have anyone that can use ballistae. If you can capture them and use them to confuse the enemy, that would be a great help as well.”

Ike:
“We have some excellent archers within our ranks. They won’t let you down.”

Ranulf:
“Great. Then, good luck with that.”

Skrimir:
“Bah, enough talking! To the battlefield, to taste my enemies’ fear! No more waiting!”

Ranulf:
“No, Skrimir. This isn’t the kind of fight where a general takes the field. You should stay behi–“

Skrimir:
“Are you insane?! Oh, I’ll fight! A general of Gallia does not hide behind his men!”

Ranulf:
“Skrimir, this is war. Our movement will affect the coming battles that the southern Phoenicis and Kilvas troops will face. If we don’t follow our plan–“

Skrimir:
“Leave this tactics garbage to the beorc. It doesn’t suit us laguz at all. Might is the only thing we need. I call an end to this meeting! Time to kill!”

Ranulf:
“Wait! Skrimir! Blast.”

Ike:
“……”

Before Battle (Flaguerre)

Septimus:
“Oh, this is lunacy! Look how meager our force is. We need at least 10 times more men!”

Silvano:
“General Septimus, sir, we’re only making the rounds this evening. We don’t need a bigger force.”

Septimus:
“Don’t you realise how close this place is to Gallia…? Ah, just thinking about it frightens me! When I imagine those dark forests, where those hungry beasts are gathered……flashing their fearsome fangs! Could that be a sight that we will see in the future….? Yes, yes…we will certainly see it!”

Silvano:
“General, p-please calm yourself. Someone, bring the general’s medicine here! Since the day you were dispatched to the western front, you say this every evening…… and yet we’ve never been attached by Gallia, not even once.”

Septimus:
“No, you’re wrong! Today will be different. Tonight, those beasts will come to attack…… Ohhh, we’re doomed…..”

Begnion Soldier 1:
“E-enemy fire! We’re under attack!”

Begnion Soldier 2:
“It’s those Gallian beasts! The sub-humans are attacking us!”

Silvano:
“What?!”

Septimus:
“See? See?! Now do you see, fool?! I was right! Hah, I told you…umm… N-now what do we do?”

Silvano:
“Yes… I apologise. General Septimus, please give us your orders.”

Septimus:
“……Prepare an escape route in the event that we fail. Without it, I won’t be able to concentrate and fight this battle…”

Silvano:
“………Understood…”

(Focus moves to Skrimir)

Skrimir:
“Run down all who get in your way! Don’t even think of falling back! Make your path of blood and bone! Advance! Advance! Advance!”

(Focus moves to Ike)

Ike:
“So that’s what the Lion King’s successor is like. I see…… He’s strong indeed. Looks like if we don’t move quickly, they’ll have the battle finished in no time. Keep up, everyone! Let’s get to work!”

Battle begins

Skrimir:
“Weaklings! Where is your general? I am Skrimir, general of Gallia! Come out and fight, coward! If you’re a man then show yourself! Otherwise, don’t expect me to spare you!”

“Septimus
:”
Oh no! They’re drawing near! We’re finished! We’re doomed! Our army has been defeated…… My eyes do not deceive me!

Silvano:
“P-please, be quiet, General! You’ll hurt the troops’ morale!”

Septimus:
“No, this won’t do. It’s already too late. Definitely too late. I know! This is what people mean by living to fight another day……”

Silvano:
“Wait, where are you going?!”

Septimus:
“To safety! I must escape to Mugill.”

Silvano:
“B-but……What about the soldiers who can still fight?”

Septimus:
“……It is saddening to see those soldiers suffer. However I must leave. The beasts… The beasts wish to… CONSUME ME!”

Silvano:
“General Septimus! Gutless coward! Are you scared of these worthless sub-humans that can’t even wield weapons?!”

After Battle (Fortress)

Ranulf:
“Good work everyone. Thanks to you, we were able to claim victory today.”

Ike:
“Are we done?”

Ranulf:
“Yeah. The guards are dead, and the rest of the troops fled to the east. We’re in good shape.”

Skrimir:
“Bah! Is that it? I still crave blood! Find me more humans to kill!”

Ike:
“General Skrimir, the civilians have no quarrel with us, and the soldiers who surrendered have handed over their weapons.”

Skrimir:
“Grrrrr…… It’s over already? I don’t care about those that can’t fight. If this is all the fight Begnion can give, this war will be over too soon!”

Ranulf:
“I wouldn’t be so sure.”

Skrimir:
“Huh?”

Ranulf:
“We won this fight, yes, but the empire has a massive army. Don’t forget that there was a time when Begnion ruled over us.”

Skrimir:
“Hmph. You forget…that was before my time.”

Ranulf:
“Did you listen to a word I just said?”

Skrimir:
“Soldiers of Gallia! The battle is over! We have won! No human can stand against the laguz! We are the strongest! We are not done yet! We’ll continue to fight, kill, and crush our enemies!”

Soren:
“My… What a stupid speech.”

Titania:
“Don’t say things like that. His speech…… wasn’t exactly the best. However he’s the successor to King Gallia, so it’s to be expected that he’d give such a patriotic speech. Young lions are always very hot-blooded… I hear that King Caineghis of Gallia was not so different from General Skrimir when he was young.”

Ike:
“I don’t know. That’s really hard to imagine.”

Ranulf:
“I’m sure that Skrimir will settle down, given time. Well, I hope so, anyway…”

Skrimir:
“Victory awaits us in Mugill! We shall attack, conquer, and celebrate our victory!”

After Battle (Forest, night)

Titania:
“Ike, I’ve been thinking. Caineghis never said anything about it, but…… is this war…something that we should really be fighting?”

Ike:
“What do you mean?”

Titania:
“After all, we know about Lehran’s Medallion…”

(Image of the Medallion)

Titania:
“As long as the dark god sleeps within the medallion, the world shall not war.” Lord Caineghis should understand this saying better than we do…… So, why has he made the decision to start such a large-scale war?

Ike:
“It might just be my simple-mindedness… but maybe it’s because the war only involves the Laguz Alliance and the Begnion Empire…… So it’s not exactly the “world” at war, right?”

Soren:
“The statement “the world shall not war” is ambiguous if you ask me. If we assume what it literally says, as long as all the countries of the world are involved, you can have a world war, but it could be of any scale– or does it mean a war of such large scale that it affects the entire world? I have a feeling it’s referring to the latter.”

Titania:
“I’m thinking the same as Soren. We were very fortunate during the Mad King’s War, but it was a close call. Can we count on being lucky again? Already, we’re talking about a war between Begnion, the largest nation on Tellius, and three laguz countries. That’s half the known world, and it’s not over yet. Have Lord Caineghis and the others all forgotten about the possibility of the dark god’s rebirth?”

(Image fades)

Ranulf:
“Hello, all. Sorry to interrupt.”

Ike:
“Ranulf!”

Ranulf:
“Lady Titania, Soren, you’re both very perceptive. I’d expect nothing less from the deputy commander and the strategist of the Greil Mercenaries. You’re quite like Skrimir in that respect.”

Titania:
“Oh my, please don’t mention it. So you’re Lord Ranulf, King Caineghis’s most trusted vassal.”

Soren:
“…… Even if it’s a joke, I recommend you don’t lump me and Ike together with those wild beasts.”

Titania:
“Wild beasts…? That was uncalled for, Soren!”

Soren:
“But it’s a fact.”

Ranulf:
“Don’t worry about it, Lady Titania. I apologise, everyone. You’re correct that Skrimir and Ike are completely different. Although they’re both the type of people who keep marching forward….. but Ike trusts his companions and will listen carefully to other people’s views.”

Titania:
“Ranulf…”

Soren:
“………”

Ike:
“……Back to the issue on hand. Regarding Lord Caineghis’s view on the possibility of the dark god’s rebirth– Ranulf, do you know anything?”

Ranulf:
“Don’t worry. The whole situation is under control.”

(Image of the Medallion and the three herons)

Ranulf:
“The medallion is under the protection of the Serenes royal family. No matter how much chaotic energy is released during this war… the herons can control it with their galdrar.”

Ike:
“Reyson, Leanne, and…Prince Rafiel, was it? I see…… I remember Reyson talking about something similar once.”

Soren:
“Ah. Ages ago, the heron Lehran sealed the dark god within the medallion. His descendants have therefore been taught how to subdue the chaotic energies sealed within by using the galdrar of slumber.”

(Image fades)

Titania:
“Then, we’ll leave that to those three… We’ll just focus on the fighting.”

Ranulf:
“Yeah, that’s right. We’ll be relying heavily on the power of the Greil Mercenaries. I’m counting on you all.”

Titania:
“Understood. We’ll do our best to see this conflict finished as quickly as possible. Right, Ike?”

Ike:
“Yes. Of course.”

Soren:
“………”
