Chapter 16A: Norden Line

On the World Map

Leaf followed Dorias’ advice and led his troops along the coastline towards Lenster.

However, an Imperial base by the name of “Fort Norden” stood in their path.

The Freejis’ elite forces were stationed there, prepared to defend against the Liberation Army…

Opening Cutscene

Nicaraf:
“I hope you’re ready for the attack, Kempuf.”

Kempuf:
“Of course, General Nicaraf. They call themselves a Liberation Army, but their strength is but that of simple brigands. I shall take them down with my legion with ease.”

Nicaraf:
“With ease, you say? Don’t give me that nonsense, boy! Who was it who shamefully abandoned his troops and fled from Dandrum Fortress? That was you, Kempuf! Now listen to me. We are up against Lenster’s Lansritter forces. With Prince Leaf leading them and their homeland in front of them, their morale is as high as the midday sun. You will die if you take them lightly!”

Kempuf:
“Yes… I’m sorry…”

Nicaraf:
“You will stay here and defend the bridge. The ballistas will cover you from the rear lines. Do not fight outside their range. This is an order!”

Kempuf:
“Yes…”

Nicaraf:
“We will start our offense when the reinforcements from Alster arrive. We will charge the enemy from front and rear and crush them in one quick stroke.”

Kempuf:
“Reinforcements from Alster?”

Nicaraf:
“Yes. Count Conomore will bring about 100 of his knights. The enemy will suffer a surprise attack from behind by the strongest army in Northern Thracia.”

Kempuf:
“I see… …But then the credit won’t be mine… I need to defeat them on my own…”

(Scene switches to Leaf)

August:
“Lord Leaf, our scout has returned. This is what the enemy’s formation looks like.”

Leaf:
“Ballistas are clustered all around the fort… We’ll have to do something about them to make an effective attack.”

August:
“This bridge is the only way across the river. However, an army of heavy infantry is guarding it, and we will also be in the attack range of the ballistas.”

Leaf:
“Then we’ll have to lure the heavy infantry outside the ballistas’
attack range.”

August:
“It will be difficult to get them to move away from their defense point.”

Leaf:
“But it’s worth a try. There must be some way…”

(If Olwen is in your attack team)

Olwen:
“Lord Leaf, I can do that. I know that commander. I can lure him away from the bridge.”

Leaf:
“Olwen? No, it’s too dangerous!”

Olwen:
“Please, Lord Leaf. I want to be of some use to you!”

2nd Turn

Woman:
“Father Sleuf, a battle is starting outside. It’s too dangerous to leave now. You should stay here…”

Sleuf:
“Yes, thank you…”

2nd Turn (enemy)

Eyrios:
“Damn… Why do I have to be in the front lines defending that idiot? I guess a commoner like me is just doomed be a cannonfodder for the nobility…”

20th Turn

Conomore:
“All troops, charge! Show the power of the warriors of Alster!”

Soldier:
“General Conomore, are you sure…? Whether we win or lose, we will still lose our country forever. If we miss this chance, we will never have another…”

Conomore:
“I know. But if we betray the Empire now, Princess Miranda will die. She’s still fifteen… Don’t you think she’s too young to die in that dark monastery…”

Conversation (Karin, Eyrios)

Karin:
“Excuse me?”

Eyrios:
“What? Who are you? Stop bothering me!”

Karin:
“Hey, can you switch to our side? Please?”

Eyrios:
“Huh? What are you talking about? Weird girl…”

Karin:
“No? Oh well, I thought so. Fine, then. Good bye…”

Eyrios:
“Hey! Wait a sec!”

Karin:
“Yes?”

Eyrios:
“All right. I’ll switch sides if you’ll do me a favor in return.”

Karin:
“Really! So what do you want?”

Eyrios:
“Let’s see… How about letting me become a noble once Lenster is recaptured.”

Karin:
“That shouldn’t be too hard. You want to be a noble?
So you’re a commoner? Wow, then you must have worked really hard. A commoner becoming a higher knight in the Freeji army is a rarity.”

Eyrios:
“Stop calling me a commoner! Yeah, I’m no noble, but I’m not ashamed of it! I’m proud to be a commoner!”

Karin:
“Then why do you want to become a noble?”

Eyrios:
“Erg… Well… That’s none of your business!”

Karin:
“I’m Karin. What’s your name?”

Eyrios:
“It’s Eyrios…”

Karin:
“Your name sounds really noble. Is it your real name?”

Eyrios:
“Of course it is! My old man gave it to me hoping we’d make it to nobility some day!”

Karin:
“Then your complex with nobility must come from your name. Maybe you should change it. How about Olson? It suits you better, don’t you think?”

Eyrios:
“O-Olson…? Hey, stop playing around with people’s names…”

Karin:
“Okay, Olson, so you’re now on our side. See you around!”

Eyrios:
“H-Hey…”

Conversation (Olwen, Kempuf)

Olwen:
“It’s so nice to see you again, General Kempuf.”

Kempuf:
“You… You’re Olwen! You dirty traitor!”

Olwen:
“If I am a traitor, then you are a loser. A loser and a coward.”

Kempuf:
“What! Why am I a coward?”

Olwen:
“You’re too scared to fight. All you did was flee at Dandrum, and even now you’re cowering behind the protection of your troops. You can never surpass my brother that way!”

Kempuf:
“Errrgh… You…bitch…! Someone! Capture her! I’ll kill you all… I’ll kill you, I say!”

Olwen:
“Lord Leaf, my part is done… I wish you luck…”

(The next turn)

Kempuf:
“You! Order the troops to charge! Tell them there will be a reward for every enemy slain! Demolish them! Leave none alive!”

Soldier:
“B-But General Kempuf! That would be going against General Nicaraf’s orders!”

Kempuf:
“Shut up! Everything will be fine as long as we win! Have you forgotten that I come from a part of the royal family?
All troops, charge! Kill them! Kill them all!”

When an Alster soldier is defeated

Conomore:
“…So this is the power of Lenster’s Lansritter… Perhaps we should pull back. All troops, retreat!”

Sleuf’s residence

(If you use Leaf)

Sleuf:
“Oh, you must be Lord Leaf!”

Leaf:
“Yes, a bishop of Solwood asked me to meet you. But how did you know it was me?”

Sleuf:
“This is just like the image I saw at the Tower of Bragi… A youth with the light of Zwei…strong power… Bishop Claud… It is just as you said…”

Leaf:
“Tower of Bragi? Light of Zwei? What are you talking about?”

Sleuf:
“You will understand when the time comes. For now, I will join you, Prince Leaf.”

(If you use any other character)

Woman:
“Father Sleuf is busy. He does not wish to see anybody right now.”

Fighting Kempuf

Kempuf:
“Damn! Damn! If it weren’t for you… If it only weren’t for you…!”

Defeating Kempuf

Kempuf:
“No…! How could I lose…to you… Gwaaah!”

Releasing Kempuf

Kempuf:
“I won’t forget this! I’ll be back!”

Fighting Brook

Brook:
“Filthy rebels! Fear my blade!”

Defeating Brook

Brook:
“Guh… It isn’t…over…yet…”

Releasing Brook

Brook:
“What an embarrassment…”

Fighting Eyrios

Eyrios:
“You’re gonna fight me? Ha, you can’t beat the mighty Eyrios!”

Defeating Eyrios

Eyrios:
“…I don’t want to die…as a commoner…”

Releasing Eyrios

Eyrios:
“Damn… You feel sorry for me because I’m a commoner, right? I can’t take this any more…”

Fighting Conomore

Conomore:
“It isn’t personal. It is fate. Forgive me!”

Defeating Conomore

Conomore:
“Glory be to Alster…”

Releasing Conomore

Conomore:
“So… I am to live in shame…”

After beating the map

Dorias:
“Good work, Prince! You fought well under such dire circumstances. Lenster is right in front of us now. Our people will have been waiting anxiously for your return.”

Leaf:
“Lenster… My homeland.”

Dorias:
“Yes. Perhaps you were too young to remember much…”

Leaf:
“No, I remember. Especially that night. I’ll never forget that.”

Dorias:
“That night?”

Leaf:
“The night that Lenster fell… The sky was a hellish red from the flames engulfing the castle. I was just staring up at the sky in Finn’s arms. I didn’t understand at first… But when I looked up at Finn, I was suddenly consumed with sadness. I had never been so sad in my life…”

Dorias:
“We forced a difficult task on Finn. But he was the only one we could trust you with. As long as the prince is safe, Lenster will rise again once more… I told him that and ordered him to escape.”

Leaf:
“That was the last time I saw Finn’s tears. Ever since then, he seems to have forgotten how to cry…or even laugh…”

Dorias:
“His heart is still in Lenster. No, not just him… All of have have left our hearts behind in our homeland…”

(If you didn’t kill Conomore)

Leaf:
“I was certain we were doomed when Alster’s army attacked us from behind.”

Dorias:
“The enemy’s confusion saved us there. But Count Conomore is certainly an admirable man. His speed in rounding up his troops was something to behold.”

Leaf:
“Count Conomore?”

Dorias:
“Yes, he is the greatest commander of Alster. He is a fine knight with a love for justice and his country.”

Leaf:
“Why would such a man side with the Empire? Wouldn’t he want to do something about its oppressive ways?”

Dorias:
“He must have his reasons… Either way, he isn’t someone I would want to face again.”
