Chapter 24: The Baron in Black

On the World Map

After securing the city, Leaf faced his final obstacle. Towering before him stood Castle Manster, the “Palace of Evil.”

Though in the past having to escape from this ominous castle, Leaf now stood ready to breach its walls. To reclaim a long-lost treasure…and to cut open the path for a new age…

Opening Cutscene

Berdo:
“Reidric…I hear you have allowed the rebels inside the castle.”

Reidric:
“Yes… But if you would give me some time, I will be sure have them eliminated…”

Berdo:
“Don’t make promises you can’t keep. It is obvious that the rebels have the upper hand…”

Reidric:
“……”

Berdo:
“Pity…I would have expected you to do better than this. This is it, Reidric. I am finished with you.”

Reidric:
“B-Bishop Berdo, please… Without you, we would all be…”

Berdo:
“Then do your best… Here, I shall give you a squad of the Schwarze Rosen to aid you. I wish you luck…”

(Scene switches to Leaf)

(If you haven’t killed/captured Galzus in Ch 5 or 6)

(If Sety joined in Ch 23)

Sety:
“Be wary, Prince. Reidric’s soldiers are all but decimated, but there are still a large number of mercenaries waiting inside the castle. There is one particularly dangerous swordsman that you should be careful of… His name is Galzus.”

Leaf:
“Galzus… What should we do about him?”

Sety:
“We’re going to have to lure him out and attack him with my Holsety. But I frankly don’t know if that will be enough…”

Leaf:
“We don’t have enough men… August, why did you divide our troops into three squads?”

August:
“One squad is to rescue the children. The second is to capture the Lopto bishops. These two tasks need immediate attention, so I sent the first two groups in earlier.”

Leaf:
“I understand rescuing the children, but what’s so important about the Lopto bishops?”

August:
“There is a group of bishops stationed at the Lopto altar in the eastern corner of the castle. They will use the Berserk and Sleep staves, so they must be taken out first.”

Leaf:
“I see… So fighting Reidric is up to us, the third squad?”

August:
“Yes. We won’t have time to reunite with the other groups.”

Sety:
“Lord Leaf, this will be a tough battle. I’ll take care of the enemies in the front. You need to focus on killing Reidric!”

Leaf:
“Yes! I swear I will defeat him!”

(If Cyas joined in Ch 23)

Cyas:
“Be wary, Lord Leaf… Reidric’s soldiers are all but decimated, but there are still a large number of mercenaries waiting inside the castle. There is one particularly dangerous swordsman that you should be careful of… His name is Galzus.”

Leaf:
“Galzus… What should we do about him?”

Cyas:
“I cannot be sure, but if we have a girl named Mareeta among us, she may be able to do something. I understand Galzus has some sort of connection with her…”

Leaf:
“Mareeta… August! Why did you divide our troops into three squads?”

August:
“One squad is to rescue the children. The second is to capture the Lopto bishops. These two tasks need immediate attention, so I sent the first two groups in earlier.”

August:

Cyas:
“Lord Leaf, this will be a tough battle. I will do what I can, so you must concentrate on killing Reidric!”

Leaf:
“Yes! I swear I will defeat him!”

(If neither Cyas nor Sety joined)

August:
“Be wary, Lord Leaf. Reidric’s soldiers are all but decimated, but there are still a large number of mercenaries waiting inside the castle. There is one particularly dangerous swordsman that we should be careful of… His name is Galzus.”

Leaf:
“Galzus… What should we do about him?”

August:
“We will have to simply have to lure him out and focus all of our attacks on him. However, I’m not sure if that will be enough…”

Leaf:
“We don’t have enough men… August, why did you divide our troops into three squads?”

August:
“One squad is to rescue the children. The second is to capture the Lopto bishops. These two tasks need immediate attention, so I sent the first two groups in earlier.”

Conversation (Mareeta, Galzus)

Mareeta:
“You… You’re the swordsman that saved my life… I’ve always wanted to meet you.”

Galzus:
“Why have you returned… You’re still a child, and a girl at that. A sword is not a toy…”

Mareeta:
“When I was under the control of that evil blade…I met my father in a dream. I was still little when I was separated from my father, but I still remember him. He was strong, kind, and gentle… Galzus… You’re my father!”

Galzus:
“! …”

Mareeta:
“Say something! Please! Say that you are…!”

Galzus:
“You don’t…hate me?”

Mareeta:
“Of course not… I was captured by the slave traders because I disobeyed you. Besides, Lady Eyvel rescued me soon after. I’ve never hated you!”

Galzus:
“I’m sorry. I looked everywhere for you, but I could never find you… And my hands are far too stained with blood… I thought it best that you forgot about me.”

Mareeta:
“No! No matter what happens, you’ll always be my father…”

Galzus:
“…… The woman who raised you… Is she the swordswoman who was turned to stone?”

Mareeta:
“Yes…”

Galzus:
“…… Then I can’t leave her here. As an Isaacian, I will repay her!”

When one of the children stops in front of the room with the Kia staff

Child:
“Where am I? What’s this door…?”

(Door opens)

Child:
“Looks scary in there… H-Hey, guys! Wait for me…”

Fighting Reidric

Reidric:
“Hmph! So you’ve come to kill me? Ha! You’re the ones who are going to die!”

Defeating Reidric

Reidric:
“Augh… This can’t be… How could this happen… Bishop Berdo… Where are you… I don’t want to die… Some…one… I don’t…want…to… Gah…!”

Fighting Galzus

Galzus:
“Curse your fate for bringing you before me…”

Defeating Galzus

Galzus:
“Guh… Mareeta… I’m…”

Releasing Galzus

Galzus:
“Hmph… So I’m being pitied by an enemy. I’ve fallen as far as I can…”

After beating the map

August:
“…It looks like we have managed to secure most of the castle. You fought well, Lord Leaf.”

Leaf:
“But did we really kill Reidric? When I finished him off, his body simply disappared into thin air.”

August:
“This palace seems to be surrounded with some kind of dark, ominous force. It’s probably coming from the secret Lopto temple in the castle’s underground. We cannot say we truly liberated Manster until we destroy that temple.”

Leaf:
“A secret temple… It must be the Lopto headquarters of Thracia.”

August:
“Yes. Berdo, one of Manfroy’s most trusted bishops, is in charge of it.”

Leaf:
“Bishop Berdo… What kind of man is he?”

August:
“He is the mastermind behind all of the Lopto Church’s activities in Thracia. He is the one who started the child hunting and sent the Schwarze Rosen to burn down uncooperative villages. Reidric was simply one of Berdo’s henchmen. Also, apparently Berdo was the one who turned Lady Eyvel to stone.”

Leaf:
“What! Berdo… I’ll make him pay!”

(If you found the Kia Staff, and if Sara is alive)

Leaf:
“But we have to rescue Eyvel first. What do we need to do, August!”

August:
“We have the Kia, but as I mentioned before, only those of Manfroy’s blood can use it. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do right now…”

Leaf:
“Damn! Something… There has to be something we can do! I didn’t come this far for nothing…!”

Sara:
“Don’t worry, Leaf. I can use that staff.”

Leaf:
“Sara!? You can…? Are you serious!?”

Sara:
“Yes. That staff… It’s Grandpa’s.”

Leaf:
“Grandpa…? Wait… Manfroy is your grandfather!?”

Sara:
“I don’t want to talk about Grandpa. I don’t like him. Who cares about him, anyway! Come on, Leaf, let’s go. And don’t forget to bring the Kia!”

(If you didn’t find the Kia Staff, or if Sara is dead/captured/wasn’t recruited)

Leaf:
“August! Do we know where the secret temple is?”

August:
“Yes, we do. However, Berdo is hiding there with a squad of powerful magicians, so securing it will be no easy task. We could wait until Lord Celice’s army arrives, but then we may risk letting Berdo escape.”

Leaf:
“What Reidric did to Thracia is nothing compared to Berdo. We can’t let him escape alive! Right, August?”
