Strategy

This battle isn't for the fainthearted. If it's your first attempt, don't worry too much about S Ranking the battle, but rather focus on not losing. While the battle itself isn't tremendously hard, it can be quite long--and it's very easy for the Allied Base to fall.

Good units to use are sword users, lance users and bow users. A playable character that can equip staves (or two) is also extremely recommended, in case of emergencies.

To start with, the forward captains will start to advance to the main captains. If they succeed, both forward and main captains will get buffed. Iago will run to Xander, the Swordmaster to Camilla and the Wyvern Lord to Validar.

The three forward captains are all very close to the Allied Base. Start by annihilating the Swordmaster and Wyvern Lord north of the base. The Wyvern will fall easily to a bow user, of course. Then quickly dispose of Iago before he can report back to Xander.

Taking too long will cause the main captains to summon Shadow versions of themselves to assist the forward captain. Whether you succeed or fail, nearby enemies will start to advance on your main base. Finally, all the captains will start to move out too.

Around this point, a female Villager will spawn to the north. Defeat enough foes and she'll Class Change to a Wyvern Rider and assist the Allied Commander. With so much happening on the map, don't concern yourself too much--and she won't be much help anyway.

Ideally you want to defeat the forward captains, temporarily weakening the main captains. Then you take the battle to the main captains. Camilla is the easiest to defeat (with an archer etc.), followed by Validar if you have a strong physical unit.

Xander is rather bulky, so you could consider forging Mountslayer to a True Power weapon if you have one (or a 5 star Brave weapon). During the battle, two Sages will spawn to the north and west and regularly cast lightning bolts. They are annoying, but not high priority.

Once you've defeated some captains, start bolstering your Allied Base ASAP. Send a staff-user and/or a powerful playable unit there. After the three main captains fall, the Enemy Base will open. Darios will then summon 4 Shadow versions of himself to attack your base.

As long as a single Shadow remains, at no point should you leave your Allied Base unguarded. It can fall in a matter of seconds, what with Darios's strength and his weapon advantage against the Fort Captain. If leaving an AI there, make sure they've been instructed to defend the base rather than target the Shadows, or they may wander off after eliminating their target.

Darios himself is strong, so Dual Specials are great for slicing his HP down. Remember to guard and dodge between his frequent attacks. That said, don't go too crazy with the Specials and try to conserve some bars if possible.

After defeating Darios the first time, he will revive and you'll have to fight him again. So you can see why conserving your Specials is a good idea. Not just that, but after defeating Darios the second time, the battle still isn't over!

To finish off, Velezark will spawn in the central area. You may remember he can take quite a beating. So to really dish out the damage, you will need to trigger Dual Specials and/or Awakenings. This is especially important if you want a time under 15 minutes.

A good strategy is to send one pair to fight Darios, while the others defend the base from the Shadows. After Darios has been defeated and the base is safe, have the units swap roles. So ideally the base-defending units will march to Velezark with fresh Specials to use for the final battle.

If time is not an issue (for example, during your first attempt), you will have an easier time fighting the Shadows yourself, while the AI fights Darios. That way, you don't have to rely on the occasionally finicky AI. Controlling a staff user also lets you heal the Fort Captain, just in case.

All in all, good luck on unlocking Celica!
