The Last DLC Character for Smash Bros. Treats Fire Emblem Fans

That’s right! Yesterday, during what would be the final Super Smash Bros. Direct, Masahiro Sakurai announced quite a few additions to the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U & 3DS, including new stages, music, costumes and characters. What no doubt caught many viewers off guard was the immediate Fire Emblem Fates inclusion, thrusting the viewer into the infamous decision scene in which Corrin must choose his or her side. What surprised viewers even more was that the decision scene, in which Corrin was faced with a choice that nobody expected.

What we received was a voiced intro for the reveal trailer, perhaps ripped from the game, including voice work by Ryoma, Sakura, Elise, Xander and both genders of Corrin.

General Notes

Corrin has been officially announced having the decision to not only refuse to help their two families, but also to join the cast of Super Smash Bros.

6

You can play as both the male or female versions of Corrin, and much like Robin, Wii Fit Trainer and the Koopalings, functions just the same regardless of gender.

Corrin comes equipped with their fully realized pref. weapon, the Omega Yato,

Moveset

Corrin’s notable style of combat includes applying various forms of their Dragon Fang, transforming either a variety of their body parts or simply completely into their dragon form, influenced from the game no doubt. Corrin’s head always always changes into its dragon form if using a Dragon Fang attack. Corrin also appears to go Dragon in what appears to be at least two taunts.

5

Corrin also comes with unnamed Dragon Fang attacks. Of note includes Corrin’s angle-adjustable Side Smash which may have the greatest horizontal reach compared to the entire cast of the game. Several other moves are influenced by Corrin’s dragon form.

4

Other moves include their Jab combo string hits, Up-Smash, Forward-Tilt, Neutral-Air, Down-Air, Back-Air, Up-Throw, Back-Throw and perhaps some other moves. Curiously, Corrin appears to have several jab strings, which may function in a process based on the Dancing Blade attack that Marth & Lucina share.

Corrin’s named special moves include:

Dragon Fang Shot which either shoots a watery burst from their arm or simply chomps an opponent.

Dragon Lunge places Corrin into the air and transforms his arm into a spike, thrusting downwards at a 45 degree angle. What’s neat about this move is that it can dig into your opponent and also into the ground, holding you in place in the air for a few moments while you decide on a follow up move.

Dragon Ascent launches Corrin high into the air upon transforming with the expansion of heavily damaging wings.

Counter Surge functions much like the typical Counter-type moves already in Smash, but transforms Corrin completely into their dragon form upon being hit. One unique element about this move is that it does not absorb an opponent’s attack, meaning that an opponent behind you may still be hit by a projectile or move with long reach initiated by the triggering opponent.

Corrin’s Final Smash, the Torrential Roar, pulls in any nearby opponents and blasts them away with a fully transformed Dragon-form burst of water

Other additions

While Corrin will not be bringing in a new stage with their admittance, they will bring in two new songs for the Smash music library. Both songs are Lost in Thoughts All Alone, the infamous song sung by Aqua. One is the standard version, the other is a remix.

7

Ryoma and Xander trophies will be added to the list of available trophies.

10

Kozaki Yusuke, character illustrator, also designed the official inclusion artwork for Corrin’s appearance in Smash. Elise’s expression is priceless.

While we are not aware of the exact date, we do know that Corrin will be available in all nations sometime in February 2016. Known costs for Corrin, the two trophies and the two audio tracks are:

*Edit*

There was some other news that I neglected to mention, which is definitely worth mentioning;

The Roy amiibo will be released on March 18, 2016. In the US, he is still recognized as a GameStop exclusive.

In Bayonetta’s official release artwork, Lucina is featured on the side of Evil? Perhaps the Grimleal were right all along?
