Fates: New Drama CDs Revealed

Otomart, a Japanese online store that specialises in selling CDs and DVDs, recently added four Fire Emblem Fates drama CDs to their database (although they’ve currently been removed at the time of writing).

For those unfamiliar with drama CDs, they’re collections of short episodes that you can listen to–the best Western comparison is probably a radio drama or audio book.

Drama CDs are quite popular in Japan, as they provide an easy and relatively low-cost way of expanding on the story or exploring fun, little side-stories. Previously, there was also a series of drama CDs for Awakening.

In addition to the separate drama CDs, there’s a collector’s edition box, which contains the four CDs plus extra goodies. Here are the details…

Editor’s note: “White Sky” is literally “White Night”, a reference to Hoshido, which is the “White Nights Kingdom” in the Japanese version. So the track title has a double-meaning, the second being “Concerns of Hoshido”.

  5. Do you want to celebrate your birthday by yourself?
  6. I’m so happy… I’m s-so embarrassed—!

  9. I believe there’s a reason for being born in this world

Some general comments…

The Birthright drama CDs seem to be from Takumi’s perspective, before he’s recruited in the storyline. So the first one may occur around the time Corrin returns to Hoshido, while the second one may take place near the Branch of Fate.

Meanwhile, the Conquest drama CDs are probably from female Corrin’s perspective. The first one obviously occurs during Corrin’s isolation in the Northern Fortress, while the second one seems to be slice-of-life fun in My Castle.

Interestingly, the characters featured are primarily the ones that ranked high in the official Japanese popularity polls. Most notably, Leo and Takumi are explicitly mentioned in the description blurb, while female Corrin and Takumi both have leading roles.

The other thing of major interest is the new character artwork, presumably by Yusuke Kozaki. If you stare hard at the pictures of the stickers, you can make out new artwork of Hinata, Niles and Odin. Will there be more in the booklets?

I’m surprised that Mikoto, Flora, and Charlotte are appearing in the drama cds while none of the royal sisters are even mentioned at all. Especially Camilla and Elise since they were placed pretty high in the popularity polls too.

    • Aveyn Knight

Yeah, I found the latter weird. Perhaps there were scheduling conflicts? From the sound of things, there probably won’t be any more CDs after this (since they already offered the complete box).

      • Madoka

It will depends entirely on sales, as always. If it sell well I suppose there will be another CD or Set for Revelations b/c this is mostly Conquest/Birthright.

Where could you buy or pre order this?

  • *after zooming in on the low-res pics of the other character’s official art* Well I’m surprised Niles doesn’t have a more….sadistic looking pose? Plus it looks like we’re going to be getting some side-butt from Odin (freaking Zero in the way) and he has some pretty good legs there. I’m a thigh and ass-man and proud of it.
