Fire Emblem Cipher Series 14 Release!

Today, 27 September, is the official release day for Fire Emblem Cipher Series 14! The set, titled Eyegazing Future, is now available in card shops in Japan and for import around the world.

S14 features cards and characters from five different Fire Emblem titles. The first half of the set is made of Blue cards for Awakening and Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE. The remaining cards are split between the Birthright path of Fates and Green cards for Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn in Tellius.

Scroll on down below for a closer look at the cards and promotional items available in the set. NOTE: Some of the artwork and cards contained in this set do contain spoilers for their respective games. Proceed with caution if you’ve not yet finished playing these titles.

S14 – Awakening Cards

The lion’s share of the cards in this set go to Awakening. Lucina is the star, getting her own SR as the future Exalt of Ylisse. The card evokes an earlier card for Exalt Chrom back in S8. Lucina also gets a special + version signed by her Japanese VA, Yū Kobayashi, shown here with her N and HN cards.

Both Male and Female Robin also appear heavily in this set. The tactician duo both get textured foil SR cards. F!Robin is possessed by the power of Grima, while M!Robin’s SR forms a joined-art fighting against another SR of Grima himself!

It might seem as if the left and middle cards are both Grima, but they are indeed different. In addition to the names, F!Robin is not considered a Dragon. The initial Twitter post referred to her as “an instrument of the fell dragon”. She also gets a dynamic, alternate art version of her SR:

The final two SRs for Awakening both go to children characters! Cynthia and Inigo both finally get their first SR cards. Cynthia is shown here with her N and HN cards.

Inigo was the final SR revealed during the pre-release livestream. He comes in two different artworks, including an SR+, both drawn by Sachiko Wada.

In fact, most of this portion of the set goes to children characters, some of whom haven’t seen print in a while. Both Morgans, Owain, Kjelle, Laurent, Brady, Yarne, Severa, Nah, Noire, and Gerome all get representation in this set. Laurent’s cards are drawn by a new artist, Misa Tsutsui. Nah also gets a special R+ signed by her Japanese VA, Rei Matsuzaki!

Additionally, Owain and Severa both get alternate art R+ cards. Owain’s R+ contains a very Owain-like monologue. On the other side, Severa finally decides to work together with her mother Cordelia, both of them sharing a peaceful joined-art holding hands.

Aside from Cordelia and the aforementioned Robins, Chrom and Olivia are the only other first generation characters to get cards. Chrom gets an R reclassed as a Paladin, while Olivia’s gorgeous card is drawn by another new Cipher artist, Kotetsu Kinoshita.

Finally, we get a few more villains in addition to Grima. Validar makes his Cipher debut with an R card, followed by a few more Risen. A mysterious, female Wyvern Lord also appears in the villain section. I wonder who she could be?

S14 – Tokyo Mirage Session #FE Cards

Only a few cards in the Blue half of the deck were reserved for TMS#FE. Itsuki gets two cards to himself, once in his street clothes and once in his Carnage Form. Pairing up with him is Mirage Chrom, who also gets two new cards.

The final TMS#FE card is a Colourless card for Maiko Shimazaki, the cool president of Fortuna Entertainment. Maiko is only an NPC in the game, and so it’s fitting that she plays a colourless Support role in Cipher as well.

S14 – Birthright Cards

The next portion of the set follows the story of the Birthright path in Fire Emblem Fates. As a result, many of the cards are White, but there are also Black cards for villains and NPCs, and some dual-colour cards. Male Corrin is the star of the show, featured here in a gorgeous signed SR+ with his siblings around him.

Those siblingsRyoma, Hinoka, Takumi, and Sakura—all gets cards of their own this set as well, an R foil card for each.

Furthermore, Ryoma and Sakura both get special alternate art R+ cards as well. These cards are very similar to their original Rs, but with altered artwork and some impressive foil effects!

Azura snags the second SR of the set. Like Corrin, she also has an SR+ variant signed by her voice actress, though she appears as a dual-colour Black and White card. The final SR is actually a Black card for Nohrian King Leo. It depicts him in the future after he has assumed control over the kingdom of Nohr in the Birthright post-game.

Three other Nohrians also get cards in this set. Elise appears as an NPC, begging her eldest brother to bring about an end to the war. Gunter appears based on his early-game appearance as Corrin’s retainer, and Garon appears in his fierce Dragon form.

The remaining cards are given out to Hoshidan retainers. Hinata and Oboro share a joined-art together, while Azama gets a pair of cards drawn by Ippei Soeda. Felicia rounds out the set with another dual-colour card.

S14 – Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn Cards

The final quarter of the set goes to characters from Tellius. As always, Ike is the star of the show, though he doesn’t actually get an SR this set. He does, however, get an R+ signed by his VA, Michihiko Hagi. Wielding an axe, this card is rather similar to his Brave version within Heroes.

Instead, each of the three Tellius SRs go to characters who have yet to receive one: Gawain, Titania, and Ilyana. As usual, Gawain’s card can also be treated as “Greil”. Additionally, Ilyana gets an alternate art SR+ card, both beautifully drawn by Mayo.

Mayo further contributes a joined-art panorama for the three brothers, Boyd, Rolf, and Oscar. All three of these characters haven’t been printed since way back in S3, so it’s nice to see them back in Cipher.

The remaining smattering of cards mostly goes to other members of the Greil Mercenaries: Mist, Rhys, Shinon, Gatrie, Soren, and Mia. Mia’s gets a special signed R+ as well, signed by her Heroes VA, Yuu Asakawa. Marcia rounds out the set with a final, single card.

Cipher Mascots in S14

Four different Cipher original characters appear in S14. Alice and Valjean both appear as Blue cards, with both also wielding axes. Emma is a dual-colour Pegasus Knight for Fates, while Shade rounds out the set representing Tellius as a Green card.

Booster Box & Release Goodies

As usual, S14 booster boxes come with a number of little gifts enclosed. Each box comes with one Preview Promo, one Anniversary Promo, and one Promo Sleeve Pack, chosen randomly from two possible options.

The two Preview Promos this time around feature Marth and Leif. Marth’s card uses his official art from New Mystery, to match the focus of the Archanean cards in S15. Similarly, Leif will be the main lord for Yellow, given the Leonster focus for Jugdrali cards in S15.

The Anniversary Promos both feature Heroes characters, Anna and Alfonse. Both promos are reprinted in foil and feature a special 3rd Anniversary stamp in the upper right corner.

Finally, the Promo Sleeves for S14 feature two different pieces of artwork. The Awakening sleeves use some promo artwork with Chrom and Robin, while the other sleeves feature the box art for New Mystery. Each pack comes with five card sleeves.

Furthermore, retailers in Japan have special release goodies for S14! Everyone who purchases one booster box (or 16 loose booster packs) also gets one limited deckbox, available while supplies last. There are three different styles, one for Lucina, Corrin, and Ike. Each deckbox also has a related chibi figure on the corner of the back!

S14 Promotional Cards

We’ve already gotten to see a few of the promotional cards that will be released during Series 14. As always, the first two promos of the set are the preview promos shown above. The next six are Tournament Promos:

The first two cards, Spring Lucina and Female Corrin, are both unique cards only available as promos. Male Robin, Ryoma, Ike, and Ilyana are all reprints of their cards from S14, but with new artwork. Cipher players can earn these cards by playing tournaments in Japan, or buying them in the aftermarket.

One other promo has been shown so far, another for Male Robin. This special promo is available in the November issue of Nintendo DREAM, which went on sale in Japan on 21 September. As of the time of this writing, the magazine is still available via Amazon Japan, with each issue containing two copies of the card.

Set List, Secret Cards, & Closing

While this article contains a list of characters and some card images, it certainly doesn’t contain all of the cards released in the set. If you’d like to see them all, including the rare + variants of each card, you can check out the full set list on the Cipher official site.

Additionally, there are two more cards that don’t appear on the set list for both Chrom and Ike! These special cards feature chibi art by Yugo Oguma. Despite the art difference, the cards use the same text as their R cards this set.

Furthermore, special phone wallpapers using this artwork were shared during today’s Cipher Frontier column.

That’s all we have so far for S14! With the set now released, there will likely be no further news to share. However, we may still see some more promos revealed.

Stay tuned for further news and information regarding S15, the Cipher winter set. In a few weeks, we’ll share the pre-release information and art that we’ve seen so far. Reveals and an Autumn Livestream will likely be scheduled for this November! We can also expect to learn more about Comiket promos and merch soon too, so stay tuned!
