Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore European Overview Trailer & Analysis

Heads up everyone, it’s the Prince of Iris reporting in! I’ve been kindly invited to contribute to our site as a guest editor, and I’m happy to be here with my first article! Without further ado, read on!

Recently, Nintendo of Europe released a new trailer for Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE Encore, the upcoming enhanced version of the game for Nintendo Switch. You can watch this trailer in higher quality on YouTube.

In the first few seconds, the trailer notes that Encore will only have Japanese voiceovers, just like the original Wii U game. There may have been hope or speculation from fans that this wouldn’t be the case with this new release and that there’d be English voiceovers this time around, but this small note appears to finally settle the matter.

As a reminder, new to Encore will be French text. This was already mentioned on the Nintendo eShop, but there’s supposed to be Chinese text available as well. Presumably, this can be adjusted through the Nintendo Switch system settings.

The trailer provides a first look at an all-new outfit for the character Touma, appearing during battle. This outfit never showed up in the Wii U version, but it appears to be based on his existing Ouga suit. I wonder what’s the story behind it…

It was detailed previously that there would be more costumes yet to be revealed. So this is one of them! What other new outfits could await the wardrobe?

We also get another look at the new dungeon in the game! It’s not shown in this trailer, but you can expect to battle enemy Mirages too.

Note that it can be understood there’s only one new dungeon in Encore, because the on-screen text from the trailer says “a new dungeon” (singular form). If there were more than one, we figure it would say “new dungeons” instead.

Anyone else notice the blue treasure box that Itsuki’s opening? We don’t get to see its contents before the video skips ahead, but it’s interesting because treasure boxes are normally of a yellow color. A minor difference, but a difference nonetheless…

As already made aware, Encore is based on the updated overseas release Wii U release from 2016.

Even with that known, a particular point of interest is the contents of Chapter 2, which was changed significantly, and whether or not that would be retained for Encore. To reconfirm, the trailer shows that it’s still the same as before. It’ll be the newer version!

During battle, a new button prompt “Stats” appears which you can press the + button for. In the Japanese text (refer to the right screenshot, which was shared previously), it says “Status” instead.

Since the Wii U GamePad screen showing your stats was titled Status, maybe it got renamed Stats too? Pretty sure the Stats button is for this.

That wraps up all the new and interesting stuff we could take away from the latest trailer. We’re fast approaching the release of Encore, and it’s possible Nintendo of America or other official channels will share their own new trailers like this before long. If any other cool new stuff pops up soon, we’ll be sure to give you the 411 so you can stay in the know.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE Encore will be out in stores and on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch across the globe on January 17th, 2020!
