Welcome to a new installment of our weekly recap series of Series 20 of Fire Emblem Cipher, the Japanese trading card game. Launching as a new booster dubbed The Guiding Hand of Dawn, this set features characters from Fates, Path of Radiance, and Radiant Dawn.
In the weeks leading up to its March 19th release, the official Twitter account, @FEcipher, is revealing the latest cards each weekday, and we’ll be looking over them together as an overview of what’s to come!
But first, in case you missed it, this past weekend gave us a formal introduction to a selection of cards previously unveiled during the most recent livestream. Try your luck in pulling from the new booster these Super Rare cards of Xander, Ryoma, or Micaiah, or this Rare card of the Medallion.
The first day introduced new cards of Elise, who’s donned the role of a Shrine Maiden and Priestess like Sakura. As a reminder, fans can also look forward to at least one new card of Sakura with an opposite role this set. A small sample of the card itself can be seen on the official site.
Next, we got a look at new cards of Kiragi, who now appears as a Dark Mage and Sorcerer for this set. Wonder if his counterpart Forrest will show up too? Only time will tell.
Following that, we were shown new cards of Laura, who is being printed as one of the Rare cards of the set. Though Laura has appeared in Cipher since Series 5, this will be her card game debut in Radiant Dawn‘s Saint class.
Afterwards, new cards of Laslow, Selena, and Odin were all shown. These cards hearken back to the Fates prequel saga, Hidden Truths, detailing the game’s relationship with the world of Awakening. In this other realm from whence they came, these three warriors respectively go by the names of Inigo, Severa, and Owain.
As an extra update, the official Twitter presented a new promotional card of Flayn from Three Houses! Illustrated by Fundoshi Iccho, the artist of Dengeki Nintendo magazine’s long-running Let’s Move! Fire Emblem Cipher comic series, two copies of this holographic foil card come included with its April 2020 issue featuring the TCG, on sale today.
You can order your own copy of the print magazine with the bundled card online via Amazon JP, which ships internationally.
Lastly, two new cards of Pelleas were showcased, one being a Super Rare card. Being one of the few practitioners of dark magic in his world, Pelleas is a standout character whose impactful story will finally be paid tribute with his long-awaited arrival in Cipher.
Here’s an update about the next livestream scheduled for Saturday, March 14th at 3:00AM Pacific.
Intelligent Systems has booked special guest Hisako Kanemoto (voice of Sakura from Fates) to appear in the next episode! Along with guest host Juri Kimura (voice of Yuzu from Cipher and Nyx and Mozu from Fates), they’ll help deliver the latest Cipher news among other topics, including a pack opening ceremony of the brand new booster.
In related news, we would like to share a major update about the 3rd Hero-King Grand Prix event scheduled for February 23rd, which comprises of a private tourney and public side events. Since we previously touched on it in our last update, we think it would be appropriate to report on a significant shakeup to its status, even if it’s only tangentially related to the Series 20 booster.
Unfortunately, earlier in the week it was announced from the official Twitter that the entire event has been canceled, out of consideration for the coronavirus epidemic.
At this time, it is unclear whether or not Intelligent Systems will reschedule this event or if this may affect any other future Cipher-related events. Having that said, all other announced events, including the national qualifiers, remain scheduled as planned.
If there is one silver lining we can take away from this situation, it’s that it stands as testament to Intelligent Systems valuing the fans.
And that wraps up this week’s recap! Check back here next week for another round-up of Cipher news.
