Fire Emblem: Three Houses wins Award for Excellence at the Japan Game Awards 2020

During the second day of Tokyo Game Show 2020’s Japan Game Awards, an esteemed event celebrating Japanese gaming, Fire Emblem: Three Houses was selected as the sixth winner of this year’s “Award for Excellence” among other titles released between April 1st, 2019 and March 31st, 2020. The news was hosted by personality Hikaru Ijuuin and actor Shohei Shibata, joined by guests Katsuhiko Hayashi and Akio Inou, editors-in-chief of Weekly Famitsu and V Jump/Saikyo Jump magazines respectively.

Following the announcement were video letters from Three Houses co-directors Genki Yokota of Nintendo and Toshiyuki Kusakihara of Intelligent Systems, expressing their gratitude for the win. Thanks to the help of an official interpreter, we’ve transcribed both of their comments in English.

I am Yokota of Nintendo. Thank you very much for such a great award for us.

Fire Emblem has a long history — for 30 years, people have been enjoying the games. We had felt pressure and anxiety developing this new content for TV screen, but thanks to all the members’ hard work, the title has been favorably accepted by the gamers, and we are so happy about the result. With this joy in our heart, we will be challenging to make a better title. Please support us and keep enjoying the Fire Emblem series. Thank you very much.

I am Kusakihara of Intelligent Systems. We are grateful for this wonderful award, and thank all the people who played the game and supported us.

We have challenged many new things with this title. The game in a new setting of a military academy, our new development structure, and new game system motivated and excited all the members. There has always been enthusiasm in the environment of the development team, and I think it did lead to the quality of Fire Emblem: Three Houses. With this joy and enthusiasm, we will be working even harder to improve the titles. Thank you very much.

As the video letters played, voter comments identified only by age and gender were displayed, citing why they enjoyed Three Houses.

Video playback of the Japanese event can be watched on YouTube here (or with English interpretation here).
