Fire Emblem Engage: Japanese Overview Trailer & Commercials

With 2 weeks to go until Fire Emblem Engage launches, Nintendo Japan shared a “new” overview trailer recapping everything we’ve learned so far.

This trailer combines footage from previous trailers; namely “The Divine Dragon Awakens!”, “Engaging with Emblems”, “Welcome to the Somniel” and “My First Fire Emblem”. So if you get déjà vu, that’s why. There are a handful of new shots though, which I’ll go over near the bottom.

In addition, they shared three commercials for the game, for TV and online.

Similarly, the commercials mainly feature footage we’ve seen before, but distilled for a different purpose.

Besides that, they updated the relationship chart for the game, which I’ve translated below.

Since last time, they added the retainers.

Of note, despite being listed as unaffiliated in her profile card, Yunaka is placed with Brodia, similar to Anna being placed in Elusia. Not a massive surprise since she may be named after a rock (unakite) like the other Brodians. If you add Jean to Firene, that’s 7 characters each, for the 4 major countries.

Oddly, the Elusian side doesn’t have any comments between the lieges and retainers, perhaps to (poorly) hide the fact the Elusians are recruitable?

I’d add some comments myself, but as far as I know, we haven’t seen any interactions between Hortensia and Goldmary, plus Ivy and Zelkov. (Otherwise, feel free to remind me!)

From here, I’ll quickly analyse the new videos.

Near the start of the overview trailer, we get to see a largely unobscured version of the game’s world map. Hopefully they share a higher resolution version of it later.

When explaining the Emblems, they show Lapis in her Swordmaster garb. Of note, she has a Caladbolg (4th sword in her inventory), which Etie also had at one point.

Lapis syncs with Leif and we get to see some of Leif’s gear. His 2nd Engage weapon is a Meisterlanze, while his 2nd sync skill is Vantage (or the plus version here).

Just for fun, I counted the dots in the Emblem/Bond Ring selection and there are 12 additional dots, for 12 Emblems’ Bond Rings. Not 13, seen in the Expansion Pass trailer.

During the Somniel section, there’s a snippet from Alear and Anna’s support conversation, presumably. We know from other sources that Anna has been separated from her family, so it’s nice to see Alear lending their support.

When creating Bond Rings, Kris S shows up. Sadly, like Katarina, his S Bond Ring doesn’t have a unique skill, like Caeda or Sothe.

During the fortune-telling mini-game, we see Celica’s tarot card.

Not mega important, but one of the final Somniel shots is different, featuring some different Solmic characters enjoying their free time: Panette, Merrin and Seadall.

Near the end, there’s a new scene of Veyle holding an Emblem ring.

This ring looks to be Sigurd’s ring. Also, there’s a similar shot of Alear also holding a ring in “The Divine Dragon Awakens!”

The first TV commercial has some interesting shots near the start.

Whoo boy, Sombron looks ripped.

Also, Morion, the king of Brodia, looks to be in a tricky spot.

During the Chapter 9 fight at the Brodian border fort, at the snow field, Ivy is the boss of the map. She’s also the boss of the previous chapter, while defending the Brodian castle.

At the Elusian church map, Hyacinth is an enemy, likely the boss. The forecast shows him about to use Lyn’s Astra Storm. Also, his map sprite suggests he’s a martial arts user. Is that how he stopped Morion’s sword with just his hands?!

The second TV commercial doesn’t have many new shots. But there is a close up of a maniacal Somobron. Plus, did Sombron’s dragon form always have arms?

The web commercial also doesn’t have much new, but it does show all the royal siblings attacking. I’ll leave you with this cool-looking shot of Céline. Those white flowers are a nice touch!

Oh wait, nearly forgot! The Japanese Twitter account also shared some info about difficulties and modes:

This was already revealed via the Nintendo UK site, but Normal, Hard and Maddening will be available from the start. Plus you can choose Casual or Classic mode, indepedent of difficulty.

There’s also a curious “Growth Method” that can be selected. Could this be an option to toggle random stat growth (which all FE games use) or fixed stat growth?

“Network” likely refers to online features, like the Lost Spirits that appear on maps. Curious if you’ll get visitors to your Somniel as well.
