Fortune’s Weave: September 2025 Nintendo Direct Analysis

Wow, finally a new Fire Emblem game. So I’ll be going through the announcement trailer, which you can watch here in English or here in Japanese.

Note: This article may be updated every now and then.

Basic Information

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is a Nintendo Switch 2 title releasing in 2026.

The story centres on the Heroic Games, a large-scale arena tournament where skilled warriors gather to test their abilities and beliefs.

The man pictured above is the “Divine Sovereign” who opens the games. He promises to grant the winner(s) of the games whatever wish they desire. Given his pointy ears and greenish hair, he could be a Nabatean or some kind of dragonkind.

Although it’s simply called the Heroic Games in the English trailer, the Japanese trailer calls it the Dagsion Heroic Games, where Dagsion could be the name of a country or perhaps even the continent.

In addition, the game’s Japanese title is 万紫千紅, which literally translates to “ten thousand purples and a thousand reds”, but means more along the lines of “myriad colours”. The exact numbers aren’t important, it just means a lot of purples and a lot of reds, aka a lot of colours.

This is similar to Three Houses, which is 風花雪月, literally “wind, flower, snow, moon”, but means more along the lines of “Four Seasons”. The English title is also quite interesting. “Fortune” could refer to the luck required for the games, but could be a play on “Four”, like the four contestants shown in the trailer.

Wait a second, it could go beyond that. Four Tunes Weave. As in four songs/stories intertwining.

The Four Contestants

These are the four characters highlighted in the trailer.

They are Cai (top left), Theodora (top right), Dietrich (bottom left) and Leda (bottom right).

Right now, it’s too early to tell if they’re the main characters. But since this is the very first trailer, you think they’d show off the main character(s) first.

For what it’s worth, all four characters can seemingly access the convoy (storage). However, we don’t know if other characters can also access it.

Update (13th Sep): Forgot to mention, it seems each character belongs to their own kingdom/faction according to the flag behind their portrait. The colours are also red, blue and yellow (and black), which is funny.

There are other factions too. The Thundercloud Knights belong to a 5th one. Meanwhile, there seems to be an “Other” or generic faction for thieves and Leda’s summoned Demonic Beasts.

Link to Three Houses

So far, Nintendo hasn’t explicitly stated if or how this game ties to Three Houses, but they are clearly linked somehow.

The Hero’s Relics, legendary Crest-stone weapons used by the old heroes, make a return. Dietrich’s sword, the Answerer is explicitly stated to be a Hero’s Relic.

It’s not just the relics, the Crests also return. In the combat forecast, Dietrich has the Crest of Lamine, while Cai has the Crest of Aubin. The former belonged to Mercedes and Jeritza, while Aubin was a lost Crest belonging to Yuri.

Demonic Beasts, the gigantic monsters, also return. Leda can summon them using her song abilities. The Demonic Beasts also resemble their Three Houses counterparts.

Last, but certainly not least, at the end of the trailer, we see an older-looking version of Sothis atop her throne. However, it’s unclear whether this is her older version from the past or perhaps an older version of her in the future, having recovered her strength.

Gameplay

It looks very much like Three Houses. However, strangely, Koei Tecmo who developed Three Houses, isn’t mentioned in the trailer. So this could be Intelligent Systems’ take on the Three Houses gameplay.

Free roaming is back in some capacity. The trailer shows Cai running around what looks like the arena outskirts. Perhaps the arena will be the hub similar to the monastery.

Combat Arts and dismounting are back. There’s also new Blaze Arts.

Weapons have durability and a new Curse stat.

Spears seem to be a sub-class of lances, effective against horseback foes.

Update (14th Sep): ぷあーと@FE on Twitter noticed something. The pedestal in the top left corner has the Crest of Fraldarius engraved on it.

Cai’s class is Flying-Ornius Rider, a new class. His foe is a Thundercloud Knight, whose class is the bow-wielding Charioteer, also a new class. His foe triggers the Knightly Senses skill at the start of battle.

Gambits are back. Theodora uses one called Disturbing Strike. Similar to Three Houses, they can immobilise foes.

Theodora herself wields Mahadu’s Spear and she’s fighting a Rogue class foe. Also, her class is Noble.

In the Japanese trailer, Theodora specifically refers to her people as the people of Saramis. This could be the name of her kingdom, considering she speaks of wanting the strength of a queen.

Blaze Arts are tied to the circle gauge at the top-left corner. Besides being determined by the gauge, Blaze Arts require HP to be consumed.

Dietrich uses a Blaze Art called Moving Shadow that lets him warp 3 spaces and then attack. He has a Hero’s Relic, The Answerer. It enables the Combat Art, Bloodletting. Ominous…

Plus a Levin Sword and a new armour-slaying weapon, Flyssa. Also, he’s a Level 37 Myrmidon, which is surprisingly high for an initial trailer!

In the bottom left corner, there’s a raining icon. Oh no, is weather from Blazing Blade coming back? Hopefully it’s not as awkward.

During combat, Dietrich activates the Murderous Intent skill, which is Jeritza’s personal skill in Three Houses. Very suspicious.

Leda the Hunter provides a few more clues about how Blaze Arts work. Some but not all Blaze Arts require gauge consumption. Song of Beasts requires half a gauge and adds 4 Blaze.

Also, Leda seems to have a full gauge and there’s a Manage Gauge command, although it’s greyed out. Is there a problem if your gauge is full?

Other Characters

Quite a lot of new faces appear.

These two characters appear near the beginning of the trailer, seemingly sitting in their private space in the arena. So they’re probably very important. Perhaps rulers or royalty from other kingdoms?

Girl with glasses who seems to be close with Cai. When she’s in danger, Cai steps up to protect her.

Some characters fighting alongside Cai. Can’t tell much just from their mini portraits and zoomed out models. However we can tell that Gauntlet weapons are back.

The woman in the middle is probably the same one that Dietrich is fighting later on.

Revised (15th Sep): Some more characters fighting alongside Cai. Interestingly, Dietrich is among them. Near the middle is the girl with glasses who seems to be friends with Cai. Also of note, Dietrich and the 2nd character to his right are green ally characters.

Characters shown fighting alongside Theodora. 2nd guy on the left appeared earlier.

Characters seen assisting Dietrich. Guy near top makes his 3rd appearance. Guy on the right also appeared earlier.

Revised (15th Sep): Here’s the characters seen with Leda. To the far right, those should be Cai and the girl with glasses. Similar to Dietrich during Cai’s showcase, they’re both green ally characters.

Two characters locked in fierce combat in the arena.

I think the same character appears later, clashing against Leda. Except he has red markings on his body. Is this related to Blaze Arts?

Someone who might have annoyed Dietrich. I wouldn’t want to be in his position…

Dietrich fighting a woman who seems to be wielding a gun? Perhaps some kind of magic gun? We’ve had Mage Canoneers before, so it’s not a massive stretch. Plus all of the Agarthan technology.

Update (15th Sep): Whisp pointed out that the woman with closed eyes is also holding the same or similar gun. Both of these women happen to be Gauntlet users, so maybe this gun is simply a new type of gauntlet. Perhaps it could be a ranged gauntlet?

A masked character who has another mystery Crest on their chest. The Crest of Noa, which Constance also has.

Two unidentified characters, one sitting on a throne, with weapons around them.

Update (13th Sep): Liel pointed out that the character at the front may be Theodora. I didn’t recognise her hair without the headdress. In which case, perhaps the person on the throne is her father or uncle etc. who’s also the king of her country.

That’s all for now! If you spotted something that you think might be important, do let me know in the comments.
