Fortune’s Weave: Japanese Twitter Information (Part 3)

Continued from this post.

Note: I will update this article as more information is added. Newer information will be arranged at the top.

8th July: Bonaparte

Profile for Bonaparte, one of Theodora’s men.

Japanese VA: Satoshi Tsuruoka

Theodora’s right hand man; a wise general from the Kingdom of Saramis who continues to serve on the front-lines. In a kingdom where writing is forbidden, he records all of Saramis’s history and wisdom in his memory.

Likes: Memorising knowledge, philosophical debates, reciting poetry

(Original post)

A dialogue scene.

A scene from Megaera, the capital of the Kingdom of Saramis. Because Bonaparte has supported the kingdom since the previous king’s reign, his words carry great weight and persuasive power.

(Original post)

Plus a gameplay video.

During battles, he can swap between swords and magic to handle a variety of enemies. Fitting for a wise general, he can boost the abilities of his allies using combat arts.

Profile

We continue the pattern of getting a profile for one of the protagonists’ close allies. Also, some fans have noted that, so far, all of these characters have an eye condition. Tiara has poor vision, Fabio has lazy eye and now Bonaparte has an eye patch. If the trend continues, we may see guy with face scar next.

Bonaparte is clearly named after Napoleon Bonaparte. Interestingly, Bonaparte is a general just like his namesake.

Also very interesting is the fact that Saramis has outlawed the use of writing. I’m curious what events led to this. Without writing, it’s much harder for history and knowledge to be shared. So poor Bonaparte has to act as a living library.

Dialogue

Transcription

Bonaparte: Lord Dayan! I ask you. What do you think a country is?

Dayan: That’s obvious. A country is territory. A country should be a territory ruled by a powerful king!

Bonaparte: Laughable! Lord Dayan, that is wrong.

Bonaparte: A country is people. A country is formed only because the people gather under a king that they crown.

Bonaparte: And people are vessels for their hearts. The home that we call our country cannot exist without heart.

Bonaparte: With all due respect, Lord Dayan. You lack the power to capture the hearts of the people.

Bonaparte: Our late King Sergio understood this. That is why he chose Theodora as his successor!

Firstly, we learn that Megaera is the name of Saramis’s capital. So that’s where the name “Megaera’s Torch” comes from.

In the scene, Theodora is missing her headdress. Also, the guy with the pompadour hair is present. Just like this shot from the June trailer.

There’s also another character to the right of Bonaparte, but I feel like he’s a generic character. If not, I’ll apologise to him later.

The current king of Saramis seems to be Dayan. There’s another Dayan in Binding Blade, the Silver Wolf of Sacae. This Dayan appears to have short pointed ears. Considering we’ve seen potential Nabateans with long pointed ears (the Divine Sovereign and pink haired lady seen with Cai), perhaps the Saramis royalty are distantly related?

Meanwhile, the previous king of Saramis was Sergio. We know he was murdered. In addition, he chose Theodora to be the next ruler. That clearly didn’t happen though. However, the Theodora we see later is described as the queen of Saramis. So something must happen for Dayan to give up the throne–and I suspect it’ll be bloody…

Gameplay

Here, Bonaparte is a Diviner, just like Tiara and Fabio.

In the background, there are statues of a long haired woman. Maybe a goddess? There’s a similar statue in this dialogue scene with Cai. However, the hair and clothes look different.

The long stairs at the back are also extremely suspicious. There’s two other places with long stairs–where adult Sothis(?) is (which may be the Holy Tomb from Three Houses) and where Theodora is standing in front of her father(?). However, if you compare the details, I don’t think it’s either of those locations.

Bonaparte is Level 13. There are 7 units on the map, divided into groups of 3 on this side and 4 on the other side. Bonaparte has a Bronze Sword and Wind (effective versus Flier). Near him are Theodora and blonde-haired rider (recently seen here).

From the Japanese trailer, we already knew that Diviner can equip Sword, Axe, Gauntlet, Reason and Faith. So it’s not surprising to see Bonaparte wielding Sword and Reason here.

In-between the two groups are spiked floor tiles. Near the top of the map seem to be rows of healing tiles, where a boss is standing.

His foe is a… okay, that’s a very strange name. Burn Burn soldier? I have a feeling it’s meant to be something else, but nothing’s clicking for me. Like it could be, just making it up, Vahn Vahn soldier. Anyway, it’s a Hunter with a Bronze Bow. The banner is shared by the (Forgotten) Alcor soldier. Also, it seems to have a battalion equipped (blue sword icon).

Bonaparte has no visible crest, similar to Tiara and Fabio.

When Bonaparte damages the foe, Netherwold Blessing triggers. Presumably it weakens damage somehow. There are other foes in the background, which are likely from the battalion.

After the fight, Bonaparte gains exp and proficiency exp in Sword, but no Infantry. Similar to Fabio (but with Reason).

Next, Bonaparte targets a foe with his Wind spell. This time, his foe is a Hellbone wielding a Bronze Sword. Hellbones previously appeared in Gaiden, The Sacred Stones and Echoes.

Near the top, you can see a bit of the boss. A sword wielder with an additional HP bar. Also, the sword icon seems to be purple-ish, like the Veroquine found by Leda and also Leda’s strange sword, which may be the Rakshasi’s Piercing Fan. Presumably they’re all cursed and/or Netherworld weapons.

Bonaparte triggers a critical hit, but otherwise the battle is similar to before.

6th July: Weapon types

Two new screenshots.

There are five weapon types in Fortune’s Weave: Sword, Lance, Axe, Bow and Gauntlet The weapons that a unit (character) can equip depends on their current class. For example, Hunters can wield Sword and Bow, while Soldiers can wield Sword, Lance and Axe.

(Original post)

Classes like Diviner (tentative translation), which are proficient in magic, can attack with magic spells instead of weapons. Compared to weapons, spells have limited uses, but they can deal massive damage even to heavily armoured foes.

(Original post)

First screenshot shows characters we’ve all seen before, but we don’t know any of their names.

From left to right, there’s guy with orange streaks in hair seen in multiple parties (recently in the basic gameplay showcase), blonde guy seen in Theodora’s party (most recently in Theodora’s showcase), guy with face scar (most recently seen accompanying Leda in Tiara’s showcase), dark-red haired woman (seen in Theodora’s party) and bright-red haired girl(?) (seen next to Leda).

The information from the post confirms that weapons are locked to class, although we kind of knew that already from the training screen. However, there’s more freedom than usual, compared to previous games with weapon locks. For instance, Hunters previously only used bows, but now they can use swords. Meanwhile, Soldiers only used lances, but can now use swords and axes too.

Second screenshot shows blonde-haired lady seen with Leda and Fabio, who was showcased last week.

The post mentions that spells consume uses unlike weapons, but this isn’t entirely accurate. We know from Dietrich’s showcase, for example, that weapons consume uses for combat arts. But it’s true that weapons don’t consume uses for standard attacks.
