Chapter 11B: The Escape to Freedom

On the World Map

The Lycia Alliance Army took in Elphin as a tactician. Following his advice, Roy led his forces south toward the isle of Caledonia.

Caledonia was one of the three largest islands of the Western Isles. The other two were Fibernia and Dhia.

Located on Caledonia was Castle Idina. Here, men from all over the Isles were rounded up and locked in prison cells to be sent to Mt Ebrakhm, the Mines of Death.

When Roy arrived at Castle Idina, the situation was already looking grim…

Opening Cutscene

(Men come running out of the castle)

Middle-aged Man:
“Hurry! Over here!”

Young Man:
“A-Are you sure? If we get caught…”

Middle-aged Man:
“You idiot! If we stay there, we have no choice but to work and work until we die! You’re going to put up with that!? Don’t you have family or something back home?”

Young Man:
“Yeah…”

Middle-aged Man:
“If we escape to the northeast, there are some people who can help us. We just have to make it that far!”

(Scene switches to Castle)

Arcard:
“What? More people escaped? What were the guards doing!?”

General:
“S-Someone drugged them with sleeping potion…”

Arcard:
“…That means there is someone among our ranks who is making contact with the enemy.”

(General leaves. Morgan appears)

Arcard:
“Morgan! I want you to capture the fools who have escaped!”

Morgan:
“Yes, my lord.”

Arcard:
“I will return to the capital at Djuto. Keep sending workhands to Ebrakhm! I can’t afford to lose that mine now!”

(Scene switches to Roy)

Roy:
“Elphin, that castle to the southwest…”

Elphin:
“Yes, that is Castle Idina. The people captured from around the Isles are first imprisoned there before being sent to Mt Ebrakhm. Today happens to the day of the month on which they are transported to the mines. Rescuing them after that could be difficult.”

Roy:
“Then we have to hurry!”

Elphin:
“Yes. I have already sent some spies to sneak into the castle and help the captives escape.”

Roy:
“How will they release them?”

Elphin:
“I have told them to send the captives to the northeast of the castle. In other words, here.”

Roy:
“All right. Let’s help the people first, and then we can attack the castle!”

6th Turn

(At village)

Woman:
“Geese… You’re really leaving?”

Geese:
“Yeah. My friends were killed by the lord of that castle. I gotta avenge them.”

Woman:
“Those boys that were always with you…”

Geese:
“Yeah… They were taken to the mines, told that they would be given work. They got work, all right… …They were worked like slaves until they died.”

Woman:
“……”

Geese:
“Maybe they weren’t so smart, but they were good guys… And they were just killed off…just like that…!”

Woman:
“You’re going to avenge them all on your own?”

Geese:
“Is there something wrong with that?”

Woman:
“No… But you’re not going to be a sea merchant again?”

Geese:
“Well… Once I avenge my friends and the war resides, I’ll think about it.”

Woman:
“…We won’t forget you. You guys always risked your own lives to sell food and supplies to us. If you need anything, just come to us.”

Geese:
“Yeah, if I’m alive. …Thanks.”

(Geese appears as NPC)

9th Turn

(Bartre and some Fighters appear from the west side of the map as NPC units)

Bartre:
“Is that the castle where the people are being imprisoned?”

Fighter:
“Yes.”

Bartre:
“All right! Then let us be off!”

Fighter:
“…I’m sorry we made you help us out like this. We know you’re looking for your daughter…”

Bartre:
“Well, you guys helped me, so I should help you in return. Besides, you’re fighting with your lives to protect your people. How could I refuse to help such brave men as you?”

10th Turn

Soldier:
“Lord Morgan, the reinforcements are ready.”

Morgan:
“Good. Dispatch them immediately. Send them out from the back so that they can defend the castle even if we should be surrounded.”

Conversation (Roy, Geese)

Geese:
“Hm? You got something to say to me?”

Roy:
“No, I was just wondering why you were fighting the castle’s troops all on your own.”

Geese:
“Who’re you?”

Roy:
“I’m Roy, leader of the Lycia Alliance Army. We’re here on a mission from Etruria…”

Geese:
“You’re with Etruria!? Then you’re not on my side. Die!”

Roy:
“Wait! We’re also fighting the castle’s troops.”

Geese:
“What? What do you mean?”

Roy:
“I don’t know, either. We were sent here by Etruria to rid the islands of the bandits, but…”

Geese:
“…You said that you’re fighting the castle’s troops, right? Then you wanna hire me?”

Roy:
“What?”

Geese:
“I’m a pirate, so I’m pretty familiar with the geography around here. You look like you’ve never been here before, so you could use a guide, couldn’t you?”

Roy:
“That would help, but why?”

Geese:
“I want to help you with your mission. Well, I’m a pirate, so I’m probably one of those bandits that you’re talking about, but I only go after the rich, who have more than they need anyway.”

Roy:
“All right, then I’ll ask you to help us. We don’t know this area very well, so we’re having trouble.”

Geese:
“Great. Leave it to me!”

(Roy leaves)

Geese:
“…This is it, guys. I’ll avenge you with all of my strength! After that, I guess I can tag along with that Roy guy…”

(Geese joins)

Conversation (Fir, Bartre)

Fir:
“Father? What are you doing here?”

Bartre:
“Ah, Fir! I was looking for you.”

Fir:
“Father, I have made up my mind. I want to become a great swordmaster like Mother…”

Bartre:
“I understand. I don’t mean to drag you home. In fact, I want to assist you in your journey!”

Fir:
“Assist me?”

Bartre:
“There are many hardships on a journey of training. I can help you in tough situations.”

Fir:
“But, Father… There would be no point if I didn’t overcome those hardships on my own…”

Bartre:
“Nonsense. Are you saying that you would not be able to train yourself with your father around? Or do you not understand your father’s love for worrying about you like this?”

Fir:
“No! That’s not it…”

Bartre:
“Good, we understand each other. But first, we must capture that castle!”

(Bartre leaves)

Fir:
“Sigh… I have to tell Master Roy that we’re getting another member…”

(Bartre joins)

Battle with Morgan

Morgan:
“What are you doing! Hurry and kill off the ones who escaped! …?
Wh-Who are you!?”

Defeating Morgan

Morgan:
“The rebels in this area…have been eliminated… Who…are you…?”

After Beating the Map

Roy:
“Well, we captured Castle Idina, but even if we release the captives here, it doesn’t mean that we’ve rescued all of the people on the Western Isles.”

Elphin:
“Right. To fully liberate the Western Isles, we must get rid of the Etrurian capital.”

Roy:
“All right, then we’re going to Djuto next. …Elphin, may I ask you something?”

Elphin:
“What is it, Master Roy?”

Roy:
“Correct me if I’m wrong. But aren’t you someone of high Etrurian nobility?”

Elphin:
“!! …What makes you think that?”

Roy:
“Well…I can’t really explain it, but… The way you talk, maybe? In Ostia, I learned to study people and make estimates about them. Anyway, am I right?”

Elphin:
“What would you do if I were who you think I am?”

Roy:
“What? No, I wouldn’t do anything in particular.”

Elphin:
“?”

Roy:
“You must have a reason to hide your identity. You can tell me when you feel comfortable about it. Okay?”

Elphin:
“……”

Roy:
“All right, let’s go to Djuto! To save these isles and defeat our true enemy!”

(If all the people escaping survived)

Middle-aged Man:
“Hey, you with the mustache!”

Merlinus:
“What! Who are you?”

Middle-aged Man:
“Here, give this to General Roy. Thanks to him, we can see our families again.”

Young Man:
“We people of the Western Isles never forget when people help us!”

Middle-aged Man:
“Make sure you say thanks for us.”

Young Man:
“And that we all express our gratitude from the bottom of our hearts!”

(Obtained Energy Ring)
