New Vestaria Saga Side-story “Norden Civil War” Currently In Production

Recently, S_Kaga unveiled a prototype for a new Vestaria Saga side-story on his blog. Known as Vestaria Saga Gaiden: Norden Civil War, it focuses on the conflict within the Kingdom of Norden and occurs around the same time as another side-story, Holy Sword of Silvanister.

For reference, Norden Civil War is actually the 3rd side-story in the Vestaria Saga series. A full sequel “Vestaria Saga II” is also in the works, although it’ll be longer before it comes into fruition. The original Vestaria Saga was released back in 2016 and officially localised during 2019.

Unlike the other games in the series, Norden Civil War is not a traditional Strategy RPG, like the Fire Emblem games. Instead, it’s a territorial-based strategy game, similar to “Nobunaga’s Ambition”. The reason for the genre change is because S_Kaga wants to try something fresh–and because he can.

Players will be able to control up to 40 characters, each with multiple squads attached to them. The game will apparently feature a fairly realistic depiction of war, as 7 tribal nations vie for control of Norden. There isn’t a singular protagonist and the story will be quite broad, similar to TearRing Saga.

Vestaria Saga I Section Added to Our Website!

We know some of you were asking about this (and even before the game’s English release). Thanks to the hard work of Aggro Incarnate, we now have a website section for Vestaria Saga I: War of the Scions, which you can find here!

Currently, there’s a lot of useful pages, such as recruitment details, class info, weapon and item stats, etc. The plan is to fill in the missing pages, while also figuring out a way to organise the map-related events.

Note that the Growth Rates page only includes data for the top 5 scoring males and females from the Japanese popularity contest. Although there’s data for the other characters floating around, it seems Mr. Kaga doesn’t really want it public. So far, we haven’t decided whether to include the rest of the data or not.

Vestaria Saga I: War of the Scions English Version Now Out & Soundtrack News!

A heads up for strategy RPG fans (that should be you, right?). The English version of Vestaria Saga I: War of the Scions is now available to purchase on Steam. This is the game that Mr. Kaga–“father” of Fire Emblem–and his team created in their spare time.

By this point, we probably don’t need to tell you more about the game. But if you’re unsure, feel free to browse through our news archives.

In addition, the publishers have released Vestaria Saga I Soundtrack PIANO ARRANGEMENT & 8-BIT MUSIC VERSION, which is a selection of 11 8-bit arrangements from the CD plus 5 brand new piano arrangements and their original versions. For a total of 21 tracks.

This can be purchased as a bundle with the game or separately as DLC. However, you must own the game to purchase it. Also, the piano arrangements (and original versions) are not available yet and will be added once they’re completed.

On their Twitter account, Mr. Saitoh, who composed for the game (as well as Kaga’s previous game, Berwick Saga), mentions that he’s up for composing more tracks if there’s enough demand.

Furthermore, for the first time, the Vestaria Saga I Original Soundtrack has been released outside of Japan! The soundtrack contains 70 tracks from the game. Also, this version will come with a 4-page English booklet.

Vestaria Saga I Official English Translation Launching 27th December 2019

It’s been a long journey, but the official English translation of Vestaria Saga I will be coming out on 27th December 2019, under a new subtitle “War of the Scions”.

The game will be available to purchase on Steam for 19.99 USD. For the record, the original game was distributed for free, but you’re paying for the time and effort that went into the translation (plus potential licensing fees etc.).

For those who are new and perhaps completely confused, Vestaria Saga is a new series of strategy RPGs created by Shozou Kaga, one of the creators of the Fire Emblem series. Although we’re mainly a Fire Emblem website, we do like to dabble with Kaga’s games because they’ve got the same “DNA”.

However, we must stress that Vestaria Saga is extremely low budget; it was created by Kaga and a small group of like-minded volunteers in their spare time using what is basically the Fire Emblem version of RPG Maker. So don’t expect amazing graphics or the polish of a professionally designed game.

What makes Vestaria special is the sheer passion that’s gone into it. A lot of thought has gone into the map design, characters and world-building. Also, each battle map is chock-full of events–and victory often requires cleverly puzzling out the maps, in addition to how you use your units.
