Forging Basics

In the Birthright campaign, you can only forge Hoshidan weapons (eg. katanas); in the Conquest campaign, you can only forge Nohrian weapons (eg. swords). Or if you’re in Revelation, you can forge both types.

Forging in Fates operates differently compared to previous games; this time, you forge weapons by combining two identical weapons and providing the corresponding mineral.

Type Mineral Type Mineral
Katana Pearl Sword Crystal
Naginata Coral Lance Ruby
Club Lapis Axe Sapphire
Shuriken Quartz Dagger Onyx
Yumi Jade Bow Emerald
Scroll Amber Tome Topaz

Doing so produces a weapon +1 with enhanced stats.

Any weapon can be forged with the exception of non-standard weapons (eg. dragonstones) and sacred weapons (eg. Yato). S Rank weapons (and the True Ganglari) can theoretically be forged, but you only acquire one per game.

For example, you can forge a Brass Katana +1 if you supply two Brass Katanas and a Pearl.

From here, you can continue and combine two copies of a weapon +1 to make a stronger weapon +2 and so forth. However, as you forge stronger and stronger weapons, you will require an exponential supply of weapons and minerals.

Eventually, to make a weapon +7, you will need 128 (2^7) copies of the base weapon plus up to 247 minerals.

Note: The character running the Smithy will discount the required minerals for their proficient weapon type (but no less than 1 mineral).
